No7 Ready, Set, Summer Product Reviews

The title image. Behind the text box is a photo of the gift box with the products spilling out on some grass

You know you’ve waited too long to do a post on a product when it’s not available any more. I wanted to really give these things a try, the ones I didn’t have already, so it’s sort of four mini reviews in one post as they’re all available in the permanent line.

In the No7 box that was a free gift with purchase they had a mini version of the Protect and Perfect Intense Advanced Facial Sun Protection SPF 15 and the Lash Impact Waterproof Mascara as well as a full sized Stay Perfect Amazing Eyes Pencil in bronze and Protect and Perfect Lip Care. This is a great mix of products to try for summer and I think any of them would be worth checking out, especially as No7 have a 3 for 2 offer in Boots at the moment.

Review: No7 Extreme Length Waterproof Black Mascara

no7-extreme-length-waterproof-mascara-1

I’ve reviewed a few No7 mascaras on here but I hadn’t tried the Extreme Length Mascara before I got a mini one in a gift with purchase. The one I got was the waterproof one in black, though they have it in brown/black and a non waterproof version. The full sized mascara costs £13 and, as with a lot of No7 products, is often in a 3 for 2 offer or similar so it can be worth waiting until one of them to get it.

I have to admit that I am a fan of No7 mascaras, even when they aren’t waterproof they tend to last well and work as well as a lot of waterproof mascaras do when wet. I tend to go for brown/black mascara for a more natural look but as this one claims to lengthen and separate lash’s rather than add volume I was hoping it’d give a less extreme look than some others do.

Review: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

eyeko-black-magic-mascara-2

Mascara is not something I am low on at the moment, especially black mascara, so I’m going through the ones I have and trying them all to see which to keep and which to get rid of. Most of these are sample sizes and this Eyeko Black Magic Mascara is what I’d call a travel size at 4ml so useful for a handbag and big enough to get quite a few uses from. It came in the Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar last year and you can see my first impressions post here. I’ve not tried much from Eyeko but I’m a fan of their liquid eyeliner pen so I was looking forward to seeing how this mascara compared.

One thing I’ve noticed about this when looking for it online is that there seem to be different brush versions. Some may be bad photographs when showing the shape but they’re available in a skinny and normal brush, both the same price. The full 8ml tube is £16 on QVC UK or £19 from the Marks and Spencer’s website, which seems to be the standard price. It claims to be waterproof and add drama and curl and the standard wand has a curved shape that’s supposed to match the shape of your lashes, which I think is a nice touch but does mean you can only really use it one way.

Review: Kat Von D Bow N Arrow Gift Set

bownarrowheader.jpg

I’ve had my eye on Kat Von D’s makeup range for a while and it’s been in and out of my basket since appearing in Debenhams here in the UK but, as I can’t get to a store to see the colours and they’re a bit expensive to risk not liking them, I didn’t ever get any. That is until I saw this Kat Von D Bow N Arrow Gift Set on the website, it’s a set of two mini products with one being the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow and a mini Ink! Liner Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner pen in Trooper (black). With how long these types of product last me a minis are more than enough to try and I’ve read so many great things about both product types getting them for £14 seemed like a great way of trying them.

The two products are small, the liquid lipstick holds 3ml (0.1 fl oz) and is a browny nude colour and the liquid eyeliner holds 0.2ml (0.007 fl oz) so they’re a good size to try and I think there’s enough in here to last a while. I’ve worn the liquid lipstick quite a bit and there’s not even an obvious dent in the amount of product so it’s big enough for me.

My Travel Makeup Bag: Short Summer Break

summertravelbagheader.jpg

I did a post like this a couple of years ago and have meant to do it since but they sort of fell below other posts and, since I’ve just come back from a couple of nights in Wales, I thought this was the perfect timing for an updated summer version. I really like reading these by other people, seeing what they choose to take and it gives me ideas in case I’ve forgotten something so I hope you guys like this post. It’s also interesting, to me anyway, when I was writing this to see how it compared to the same sort of things I was taking when I wrote the last one.

I have been known to take more than I need makeup wise, three palettes for two nights may be slightly over the top, so I tried to pack light and think I succeeded. As it’s summer time, or supposed to be, my makeup routine is quite different to a few months ago. The main difference is the foundation stage and this group of products has actually become my go to easy look for the past couple of weeks anyway so I guess it’s part my travel bag and part just my everyday look. I think I’ve actually reviewed most of these products so if I have I’ll try to link them.

No7 Free Gift and Mini Boots Haul

summergiftandhaulheader.jpg

I recently made a small order from Boots, mainly because I needed a new mascara so I decided to get two as there’s an offer to get a free set when you buy two which had things I liked the look of in so I got two mascaras and some sheet masks as they were in a great offer. If you like the Boots Ingredients Sheet Masks then now is a great time to buy them, or try them if you’ve been interested but not got them yet, as they’re normally £2.50 but at the moment they’re four for £3 so 75p each which is a great price for any sheet mask in the UK.

The summer gift for No7 has a great mix in it, for me anyway, and you could almost do a full face with it, I’m tempted to try. You get a bronze eyeliner, waterproof mascara, lip gloss and face sun cream so for a beach day with minimal makeup you’re pretty much covered. I haven’t tried some of here before so I’m interested to see what they’re like. These offers tend to last a while, going by past experience, and this one is fairly new but they often run out of stock in actual stores quickly and I think you probably have a month online from when it was first released, it all depends on how long it’s running and I can’t find an end date.

Decluttering Part One: Eyeliners

decluttereyelinersheader

I said I was going to declutter and I finally managed to collect everything together and go through it all, some had mysteriously moved to my computer drawer at some point, so I’m going to start on my decluttering posts. I will be posting links to any reviews I’ve already done so you can see better swatches and things and there are some things that I do still like but it was just their time to go.

Today the whole post is eyeliners, some of these posts will probably have a few categories in as I don’t have much of some things, and it has both pencils and liquid, though I only have the one liquid liner I’m getting rid of. I don’t wear eyeliner much apart from bonzes and golds but I seem to keep thinking that I will and so buy them anyway. I am quite happy to say that the majority of these eyeliners were in free gifts like those spend X and get this bag of makeup free type offers so I don’t feel too bad getting rid of them.

Review: Models Own All About Eyes Eyeliner Set

Sorry this is a bit later than I meant it to be guys. I had problems with the website not loading the pictures in the right places but it seems to be working now, I’m crossing my fingers it is anyway!

allabouteyesheader

In a recent online shopping trip on the TK Maxx website I found a set of Models Own eyeliners for £7.99. They’re still available on the Models Own website at £20 so there’s a saving of £12.

I have had a brown eyeliner on my to buy list when I went to use my old one and found it was less a pencil more of a stub that’s hard to use and I do like a brown eyeliner pencil. I’m also wanting to try some Colouring eyeliners, I’ve always loved the look but not wanted to spend money on the eyeliners in case I don’t like them. As this set has eight pencil eyeliners in it, including a brown, gold and white which I will use, it was like getting those free compared to the individual price of most eyeliners I like.

Review: Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Black Amethyst

stilasmudgestick4

I’ve had this for a while and wanted to review it but for some reason I haven’t got round to it yet. I got the Stila smudge stick waterproof eyeliner in one of the Latest in Beauty boxes, I think it was some time last year. I’m not all that confident with eyeliner so don’t wear these darker colours very often but I have had a good play around with this one to give it a proper go. I’ve heard a lot about the Stila smudge sticks on YouTube so I was hoping this would be a good product and I don’t think I was disappointed.

This waterproof eyeliner is available in a few places but I think the two in the UK are Boots (£13) and the Stila website (£14.50) though I have seen other Stila products available in Marks and Spencers so this may be available at some time in there, it’s just not there now. This is in the colour Black Amethyst which is a dark purple with some shimmer in it.

Review: No7 Extravagant Volume Mascara

no7extravagantmascara4

I think the next few weeks Monday posts might be mascara, I’ve got five or six I want to review and this way we don’t have a week of just mascara and it breaks up the palettes. I’ve had some of these sitting there for months and never touched them so I just want to see if they’re any good. So today it’s the turn of my current favourite that’s been going for months now and running out, the No7 Extravagant Volume in Waterproof black.

This is only available in Boots and costs £12.00 so it’s one of the more expensive ones in my collection, however I have found this set that has this and two others (the red one is in my collection to review) so if that’s available in the future it might be a good way to buy this as it’s £18.00 for the three. It claims to help increase volume and length, something which it seems all mascaras are claiming at the moment. I think my expectations for mascara might be a bit high as I find that a lot don’t do what I expect them to so I’ve just given up on these ‘lengthening’ or ‘volumising’ claims as they never seem to come true.
