Advent 2016: Day 3!

Oops, posted early then before it was ready!

Today’s advent is slightly later than planned as we’ve been starting our Christmas decorating! We always put ours up on the first weekend of December, Do you guys have a set date you do it or just whenever you feel like it? It seems the first weekend in December is a fairly standard one around here as we’ve seen a few appearing. Tomorrow we get the Christmas tree, always fun.

Anyway, advent calendars, today in the Marks and Spencer’s one we got a tube of Filorga Time-Filler which is an anti-wrinkle cream. Yankee Candle had a Christmas Cookie tea light and the Ciate nail varnish in the Mini Mani Month was in the colour Seas the Day which is a green, maybe a dark turquoise.

I’m doing these posts every day for advent when I open my advent calendars, including my chocolate one, and I will be doing some more in depth reviews on some of these things so if you see one of these you’re interested in and want to read more about then comment and I’ll add it to the top of the list.

Nails of the Week: Mermaid Nails

I’m loving doing nail art at the moment and trying the different brands and tools to see which work best to do what with. I recently used the Zircon gel varnish from Red Carpet Manicure as it’s such a pretty, sparkly turquoise it just screamed summer to me so I wanted to use it while the sun is still out here in the UK, we’re having a surprisingly sunny summer where I live. After a few days of just this I decided to have a go at some mermaid themed nail art using two of the summer Models Own Soft Pop collection; Lilac Flush and Sugar Rush as I really like the purple and turquoise combination plus blue just goes with anything beach or water themed for me.

Recent Purchases: Sally’s Nail Varnishes

sallyshaul1

This wasn’t really a planned purchase, or I guess part of it was, but today I had a bit of a shopping trip to the local Sally’s and bought some nail varnish. I haven’t really kept up with the summer collections this year, in the past I’ve been looking up the bigger brands as they’re released and creating lists of the ones I’ve wanted, though hardly ever actually buying anything from them. This year I avoided it and ended up coming away with three of the summer nail polishes, two from the OPI Retro Summer Collection and one from the Red Carpet Manicure Escape to Paradise Collection.

If you don’t know what Sally’s is, it’s a store that sells a lot to people in the beauty industry so they have products on sale at reduced prices compared to the RRP. It’s mainly nail and hair products but they do have quite a few skin and face products too. The main reason I like them though, is that you get to see the gel nail varnishes in person before you buy them. I have never found any Red Carpet Manicure products in any physical shops in the UK. I have seen a couple of other brands but when I bought them they didn’t work with my light very well so I’ve stuck with RCM and it’s great to be able to see what they look like rather than relying on a computer screen version. You can find their website here, though I have had some problems with it loading so I can’t find the actual products.

Review: Irregular Choice Alice in Wonderland Card Soldiers Shoes

I was originally planning on doing my review for the second Harry Potter Funko Pop figure I bought today but I realised it might be a bit much Harry Potter for some and these pretties arrived in the post so I felt like I had to do today’s post on them instead. I guess it’s kind of a first impressions as I haven’t worn them a lot, I have worn them for a few hours around the house though to get a feel for them.

Irregular Choice are a British shoe company that make bright and unusual shoes, I have six other pairs that I love, most of them heels, and they are so comfortable and easy to wear. Recently they’ve partnered with Disney for a Star Wars range with shoes including flats and varying heights of heels including some that have lightsabers as the heel or Yoda. More recently they did an Alice in Wonderland range based on the Disney movie, the original animated one. I loved these flat shoes, with the two Ace card designs, but my size had sold out by the time I realised they existed so I ended up resorting to eBay. Fortunately someone was selling these and I ended up spending the same as the original shoe price on these including the postage so in the end it turned out well. I have seen these on eBay for almost twice what they cost and very limited size wise so I think it was pure luck that these were a good price and my size.

At full price on their website these are sold for £110, though they’re currently out of stock in all sizes. I’m not sure if they’re coming back in stock anywhere or if it’s a case of when they’re gone they’re gone, but they are still on their own website here so it might be worth keeping an eye out on there. I think that the smallest size reappeared in stock fairly recently but that might have been a return or something.
