Having bought the second, apparently limited edition, version of the Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipsticks Mini Set from TheBalm I thought it’d be interesting to compare it to the original mini set I bought a while ago. Although they should be pretty much the same there seems to be some differences, besides the colour of the lipstick, which may be due to the colours and formulation of each colour like you often find with products of different colour in the same range.
I have had the original set for a while, but I don’t think there has been much change over time with the formula. If you want to read the review posts for these you can find the original set, the one I’m calling Vol. 1, here and the newer set review can be found here. They have swatches and a bit more of a detailed description of each of the colours.
A while ago I bought the first set of Meet Matt(e) Hughes minis with 6 small versions of the The Balm matte liquid lipsticks. My review of them can be found here, that’s the permanent set that’s still available. This post is on the limited edition version, though when they call it that I’m not sure how limited it’ll be. I have noticed some differences between the formulas of these six and the originals, not just the colours.
This set has six minis, each has 1.2 ml and costs £25 on the Debenhams website. As the full sized ones (7.4 ml) cost £14 each these sets are a great way to test out the colours or formula as I don’t see myself using any of these minis up, though if you know the colour you want these may not be the best option as they cost more for the same amount of lipstick overall. The six colours included in this set are Faithful, Charismatic, Brilliant, Affectionate, Reliable and Romantic which include a good range of colours, though these go more towards the more neutral and muted tones compared to the originals. There are reds but they’re more cool tones and the neutrals have a slight brown tone to them.
I said I was going to declutter and I finally managed to collect everything together and go through it all, some had mysteriously moved to my computer drawer at some point, so I’m going to start on my decluttering posts. I will be posting links to any reviews I’ve already done so you can see better swatches and things and there are some things that I do still like but it was just their time to go.
Today the whole post is eyeliners, some of these posts will probably have a few categories in as I don’t have much of some things, and it has both pencils and liquid, though I only have the one liquid liner I’m getting rid of. I don’t wear eyeliner much apart from bonzes and golds but I seem to keep thinking that I will and so buy them anyway. I am quite happy to say that the majority of these eyeliners were in free gifts like those spend X and get this bag of makeup free type offers so I don’t feel too bad getting rid of them.
I did a post about the things I took in my makeup bag for travel over a year ago but I thought I’d do another after going away last week. Some of the things I didn’t use but it’s going to be the same things I’m taking away for family meetups and things in the lead up to Christmas so it seemed like a good time to post one anyway. I’m not normally too bad at packing light when it comes to makeup but I was surprised when I unpacked it all how much I took this time. I tend to go for taking only a few kinds of products but a range of colours in them.
I think that most of these things I’ve posted a review for so I’ll link it if I have so there’s a more in depth post on them and proper swatches if you’re interested in them. Almost everything is still available in stores, I think only the eyeliners might be hard to find but I haven’t found any that I like as much, I am on the lookout for a nice soft bronzey or gold colour if anyone has any suggestions though.
I don’t normally go for bright lip colours, I have been trying to work on this as I do love the look of a bright red lip I just haven’t been able to find any that I love. In a recent online order from HQ Hair I found they have a few products form The Balm and this Meet Matt(e) Hughes Mini Set was a bit of an impulse buy as it was on offer at 10% off as well as another offer on top at the time so for six colours to try out it seemed a good price. It’s still £19.35 there (RRP £21.50) though the second offer isn’t on any more.
There are six colours in this set and they’re all The Balm’s long-lasting lipsticks, they’re liquid and have a matte finish and I’d say that all of the colours in this set are more on the red side, there aren’t any pinks and even the brighter coral colour is a reddish coral. The six colours are: Charming, Sincere, Committed, Doting, Dedicated and Loyal and they’re available full sized, though HQ Hair only has some at £12.15 Debenhams has the full range at £13.50 if the shade you want isn’t there or you want to see them in person. The minis in this set have 1.2ml in them whereas the full sized products are 7.2g so in the end it would be cheaper if you wanted just one colour to get the full sized product, when you look at £ per ml, I like the fact you get a range of colours to try out this way or it’d make a nice little gift. There will be reviews of each colour so if you’re looking at one of these in particular you can scroll past the others.
I’m adding this bit in 2017 because there’s a second mini set of The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes. If you’re looking for more information, a review or swatches of this Limited Edition one then you can find my post on the second mini set here. And now back to the original post.
This palette, The Balm Appetit eyeshadow palette, was released recently though I’m not sure if it’s a limited edition or not. It doesn’t say it’s limited edition so I’m guessing it’s a permanent line product but it’s around the time some of the Christmas products are going to be coming out so it could be one too. It’s a palette with nine shadows, each one is 1.5g each, and has a food theme so the names are a combination of men’s names and food in a mix of odd but kind of fun puns. The palette is also cruelty free.
The nine eyeshadows could be grouped into three different finishes; three mattes, three foils and three satins, though the satins have varying amounts of shine and shimmer particles in them. The price seems to vary quite a bit but I bought it off HQ Hair which have it on sale for £30.60 with the 10% off The Balm products they have at the moment. I did also get a further offer but it’s not on there any more, it’s been replaced with another. I can’t find many places in the UK that has this exact palette but The Balm’s own website has it for $39.50 so it seems a good price.
The first monthly favourites of 2016 and I’m still writing 2015 in every time I have to write the date, it’ll take a couple of months for me to get that right. This is kind of a December and January favourites because I didn’t do one for last month as I was still recovering from Christmas and by the time I was going to do it it was a couple of weeks in and not long till this one. This is another big mix though I think there’s more beauty stuff in it this time than I often do.
I have been watching a few other things I’ll put in here but they’re not ones I have on DVD. I think after Christmas and watching Santa Claus the Movie I got into a bit of a Dudley Moore phase and ended up watching a lot of his movies so I’ll include one in here, Arthur is just so funny and one I’ve already seen twice this month. I also really liked Arthur 2, I know that’s probably not a popular opinion but it was harmless fun, not as good as the first but still pretty good. TV wise I’ve loved the new series of Endeavour, I love the Shaun Evans and Roger Allam combination and the characters and stories are great as a detective show and being a young Morse but without trying to be too much like him or trying to copy John Thaw.
I recently made an order on Debenhams, mainly buying clothes from the sale but I saw this In the Balm of Your Hand Palette from theBalm and bought is. I was planning on buying two of theBalm blushes I’ve seen review of, one of them being something from the InStain’ range (I hadn’t decided which) and another being Cabana Boy as it’s so pretty and both of those are in this palette. This palette costs £34 on the Debenhams site which was the same price as the two products (at least where I found them online) and you get quite a few others so I thought it was worth getting. I am also a bit of a sucker for theBalm palettes, I seem to be getting a bit of a collection of them now.
Since looking this palette up on review site it seems like it was a Christmas release from theBalm along with a palette of the three Lumanizer sisters which I was almost tempted by too. This palette is a compilation of the best bits from some of their best selling palettes or products, with the sub-title of Greatest Hits Vol. 1 it makes me think they’ll be doing more in the future, which I will probably end up getting as this palette is really nice and it has a good range of products in one place, a sort of all over face palette.
Included in the palette are four eyeshadows, one luminiser, a cheek/lip stain and a lip stick in 7g pans and three blushes and a bronzer in 12g pans. There is a range of shimmer and matte in both the blush and eyeshadows colours. I do have a duplicate of at least one of the products, the Balm Jovi eyeshadow in Lead Zeppelin and I think I have the Mary Lou-Manizer in the same palette under a different name as well. I also found that the rest lip product is very close to the ones in my other two theBalm palettes, I’ve done a comparison of these as well.
Here’s another product from theBalm, this time one of their eyeliners. I bought it a while ago from Superdrug and it costs £13.49. It’s available in multiple colours but I chose Brian as it’s a nice nude colour and I’ve always wanted one to use in my waterline after hearing that they’re better than white for a more natural look. There are seven colours which isn’t a great range for eyeliners but they seem to cover most of the more common ones.
I’m not great with eyeliner, as I’ve said before, so I haven’t used it all that much but I’ve had a play around with it recently and given it a test on my hand against water just to see how it lasted. It doesn’t claim to be waterproof but says it has a built in sharpener, which has confused me a bit as it’s one of those twist one, maybe that’s what they’re meaning but it just seems a bit awkward to say built in sharpener and retractable tip for a twist one.
I got this recently from ShopBXB and I was so excited about it that it jumped the queue of palettes I’ve got to review and I had a play around with it today. I hope the photos are ok, I did a big batch of photos for posts because we had half decent light outside today and that hasn’t really happened for the past month with the British autumn.
The Balm Jovi palette by theBalm has been out for a while and I have wanted it since I saw a review on YouTube but it was always either not available in the UK or out of stock and I’ve only seen it in stock recently and then it was £37 I think. This was £25 in the sale (now £28 here) so I had to get it. It’s a face palette and it has twelve eyshadows/liners in a mix of mattes, shimmers, metallics and one I would consider a glitter. It also has a highlighter, blush and two cream products that can be lip or cheek tints. The ingredients for the eyeshadows are the same as for the highlighter and blush so I think they could be used for eyeshadows if you like the colours for that.
