I’ve been working on decluttering for the past couple of
months, I’ve actually been pretty good and my cupboards look so much tidier. I’ve
been sorting out my makeup recently and realised how much of the stuff I was
keeping is just not me at all, or at least not any more. I’ve actually counted
up how many things are in this declutter post and there’s fifty three pieces of
makeup or accessories that are going! I didn’t realise I had that much!
I did start this off with a little review of each of them,
but when you have fifty three to get through it would be so long, so instead I’m
just going to link to any that I’ve already reviewed on here and say why I’m
getting rid of them. I have to say there are a few that I never thought I’d declutter
but they’re so old that if I did decide to reach for them I don’t think they’d
do me any good. I have a new rule; if it smells like wax crayons, get rid of
Onto the decluttering….
Today is part two of the Stila Liquid Eyeshadow posts, the second half of the Eyes for Elegance set I bought before Christmas. If you want to read about the three Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eyeshadows you can find my post on them here.
The Glitter and Glows definitely fit their name, there is a lot of glitter in these and there seems to be different sizes within the glitter too so you get a more dramatic sparkly finish with these. They have been around for a bit longer but I can only find two of the colours I have in the US Stila store and one in the UK one so I’m not sure if the third was limited to this set. The three colours are; Peachy Sheen (light peach), Smouldering Satin (light taupe) and Next to Notte (deep red or burgundy). The set of minis, these are 2.25ml rather than 4.5ml, cost £45 but individually at full size they’re £23.
Stila recently released a new product range in the Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eyeshadows. They are similar to the Glitter and Glow which I have been seeing around a lot the past year but, instead of a glitter formula, they’re a shimmery eyeshadow. Before Christmas I bought a set for £45 that had three Shimmer and Glow and three Glitter and Glow, with each colour having a similar equivalent in the other finish. Today’s post is going to be about the three Shimmer and Glow, I’ll do a review of the Glitter and Glows later in the week.
As these were in the set they are minis, they’re half the size of the full release versions, as the standard size has 4.5ml and these have 2.25ml. The full sizes cost £23 so each of these is the equivalent of £11.50. The three colours I have are fairly neutral; Grace (rose taupe), Kitten (nude pink) and Twig (warm chestnut brown). I’ve tried them in a few different ways as they’re pretty versatile so it was fun to experiment and see how they worked.
Is anyone else having trouble with WordPress? I tried uploading this yesterday three times and I’ve had to email it to my iPad and use the app as it says it can’t connect securely. Anyway, after rearranging my room I finally have natural lighting on my desk for photos so hopefully the lighting is better. It’ll take a bit of getting used to so sorry if the lighting isn’t the best to start with.
Not long before Christmas I bought a few things in TK Maxx including this mini set of Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks Bright and Bold Set. It’s not available on their website any more but may be available in stores, however it is still up on the Look Fantastic website for £18 (I did think that the £40 price tag on the label would be a bit of a stretch to be honest given they’re mini versions).
The set has three different colours, all of them I’d say are bright and possibly statement lips though the one is a classic red. They’re matte colours and the shades are a mix of limited edition and permanent colours, I’ll label which are which in the review if you’re interested in trying them out. The colours are Beso (classic red), Lume (deep berry purple) and Viola (lilac) and cover a good range of brights for different looks.
I thought I’d change the name of these, I don’t know why but I kind of prefer calling it blogmas than advent. I’ve wanted to start to include more blog like posts so this seemed like a good time to start it. Today was mainly spent recovering from the weekend and then waiting in hospital for an appointment so sorry this post is a bit later than I meant to!
I think today’s gift in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar is one f the ones that I was most looking forward to trying. It’s the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade Perla which is a pale or mid tone pinky nude, one of those my lips but better kind of colours for me. This year I’ve discovered liquid lipsticks after finding some that actually work for me and don’t leave my lips dry so I’m always up for trying a new company’s version of it. This is a travel size, the full size costs £16 and holds 3ml compared to this 1.5ml so it’s probably £8 worth in here but these travel size ones always last me ages, I am yet to actually finish a travel sized liquid lipstick.
It’s the second of the wax tarts today from the 12 Scents of Christmas set of wax tarts from Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy. It’s a set of their twelve Christmas scents in wax tarts, I’m just picking them out at random from the box, the box costs £15 for the 12. Today’s random pick is the Christmas Time wax tart and the first with bits in. I haven’t put it to melt yet, my wax tart burner is currently behind a pile of decorations in boxes so it’ll have to wait, but it’s a very strong Christmassy scent so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m not sure if I’ll leave the bits to float around in it or get them out, I’ll see. The throw from the last wax tart was great, it even went outside the fairly large room it was burning in, and this is a stronger scent when cold so I’m hoping it does as well too.
I feel a bit like there have been quite a few hauls recently but it’s that time of year when I end up buying more. I promise there won’t be too many, I just wanted to get this one up as the advent calendar is still in stock (as I’m writing this) and a couple of the things are Halloween so I’m not sure how much longer they’ll be around.
I think Marks and Spencer may have made more advent calendars this year, they seem to be in stock for a while longer than normal, or maybe it’s just the sheer number of beauty advent calendars that are around so they have less competition but whatever the reason they were available online longer than in the past and, though they’re sold out online, I’m pretty sure they’re in most stores, the online stock checker lists them well into double figures for some. Value wise it is one of the best value for the price, at £35 and an estimated overall value of over £250 it’s a big saving, but you do have the slight snag of having to spend £35 on other things to get this great price. However, as it’s Marks and Spencer and they have such a range of companies they sell, it really isn’t hard to spend that. I only needed the one Stila set I bought for it to go over that. As I know some people don’t want spoilers I haven’t included any of the products that are in the beauty advent calendar. If you want to know more you can click the link as it has a list of the products on their and I might do a small post soon with my thoughts on the few that I’ve already used and which are cruelty free, vegan, etc. if anyone’s interested.
Over the years I’ve tried so many different lip products, I want to like lipsticks and colours but it seemed to take a lot of failures to find the best makes for me. Most of these lip products are from those failures, though again I seem to have a lot from free sets or sets I bought for other products in them. I do love reading declutter posts, there’s something about getting rid of a lot of products that you’re not using that just feels so satisfying and reading and watching others declutter always helps me, though I’m not always the most ruthless.
I did do a bit of a declutter of my eyeliners and you can find the post for that here. As with that post if I’ve done a review or first impressions of any of these lip product I’ll put a link to them. I don’t think I have for many as a lot of these I had before I started my blog two and a half years ago, which shows how old they are and some of them should probably be going on age alone.
I said I was going to declutter and I finally managed to collect everything together and go through it all, some had mysteriously moved to my computer drawer at some point, so I’m going to start on my decluttering posts. I will be posting links to any reviews I’ve already done so you can see better swatches and things and there are some things that I do still like but it was just their time to go.
Today the whole post is eyeliners, some of these posts will probably have a few categories in as I don’t have much of some things, and it has both pencils and liquid, though I only have the one liquid liner I’m getting rid of. I don’t wear eyeliner much apart from bonzes and golds but I seem to keep thinking that I will and so buy them anyway. I am quite happy to say that the majority of these eyeliners were in free gifts like those spend X and get this bag of makeup free type offers so I don’t feel too bad getting rid of them.
Today is another great day in the Marks and Spencer advent calendar with a full sized Stila Lip Glaze in Sugar Plum. I can’t find this exact shade on the Marks and Spencer website so I think it may be a limited edition Christmas colour though I don’t think it’s an exclusive in the calendar. I’ve never tried a Stila Lip Glaze before but I’ve heard a lot about them, unfortunately after trying it it seems to have gone missing so I’m going to have to see if someone else picked it up, I’ve still used it a couple of times so I have a good idea of what it’ll be like. The Yankee Candle tea light today is a Snowflake Cookie one which is one for you if you like your sweet bakery scents. This is the last of the tea lights, tomorrow is a larger votive in a new scent so I’m excited to see what that one is like.
I’ve had this for a while and wanted to review it but for some reason I haven’t got round to it yet. I got the Stila smudge stick waterproof eyeliner in one of the Latest in Beauty boxes, I think it was some time last year. I’m not all that confident with eyeliner so don’t wear these darker colours very often but I have had a good play around with this one to give it a proper go. I’ve heard a lot about the Stila smudge sticks on YouTube so I was hoping this would be a good product and I don’t think I was disappointed.
This waterproof eyeliner is available in a few places but I think the two in the UK are Boots (£13) and the Stila website (£14.50) though I have seen other Stila products available in Marks and Spencers so this may be available at some time in there, it’s just not there now. This is in the colour Black Amethyst which is a dark purple with some shimmer in it.
