I realised that I haven’t done a nail look in ages, in fact I haven’t really done much with my nails in ages apart from paint them one colour so, to make myself feel better, I decided to give it a bit of a go and try some dots and lines. Mainly because I just had no idea what I was going to do when I started out so starting with them as a base is always easy to build on rather than specific shapes.
I think I might need to get better at naming nail looks, I am so bad when it comes to naming anything really but I think this one fits given the names and colours I used. As I’ve also had a bit of a play around with the three Gelologoy formula Ciate polishes I used in this nail art I thought I’d do a mini review of each of them as they do seem to work very differently.
I love the base coat I used for this, the Red Carpet Manicure Boats and Heels from their summer collection this year. It’s one of the neon pastels (or pastel neons) that have been so popular over the summer and I have to say it’s one of the summer trends for nails that I love as it doesn’t make me look even paler than I am. I’m not sure whether you’d call this one a purple or a pink, it’s right in the middle somewhere I think, it’s either a pinky purple or a blue toned pink.
I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with the nail art, I just liked the colour combination of purple or pink with black, white and silver accents. I also haven’t really used Thunder and Lightning from Models Own much and I love the holographic glitter in it so I felt like I had to include that in this one. I guess this post is going to be part nail art, part mini review of most of these colours. Continue reading
I’m loving doing nail art at the moment and trying the different brands and tools to see which work best to do what with. I recently used the Zircon gel varnish from Red Carpet Manicure as it’s such a pretty, sparkly turquoise it just screamed summer to me so I wanted to use it while the sun is still out here in the UK, we’re having a surprisingly sunny summer where I live. After a few days of just this I decided to have a go at some mermaid themed nail art using two of the summer Models Own Soft Pop collection; Lilac Flush and Sugar Rush as I really like the purple and turquoise combination plus blue just goes with anything beach or water themed for me.
I’ve recently started doing more nail art and thought I’d like some new colours so bought the Neon set of Rio Professional Nail Art Pens, they’re £24.99 from Superdrug and there are six colours in the set. They do a few different sets, at the moment the ones I found on Superdrug are the original set, the neons and a set of metallic colours and there is a bit of overlap between the neon and original set with white and black being in both and both having a yellow in. As my black and white are getting low I was pretty happy with the double up on them which was one of the reasons I went for this one.
I’ve tried a few different makes of nail art pen and these ones are slightly different to the others I’ve used in that they have two ways of using them. If you twist the top off you get a fine brush for some details and then the end pulls off for a pen tip which has a finer tip for finer lines.
I don’t know how many of you are watching the Euros this year but as it’s the first time in over 50 years Wales have been in an international football tournament and are through to the quarter finals I thought I’d do some Wales nails.
I used Models Own Snow White as a base, I actually ended up doing about six coats before I felt it was even and flat enough so not sure I’d recommend it as a good white nail varnish. I used my Rio Professional Nail Art Pens in the original set for the green, black, red, silver and yellow. I used Seche Vite on top but I have found it’s already peeling a bit so not sure if it’s the combination of the Rio bail pens and the top coat but it dies not seem to work.
One thing I have found doing this is that the Rio pens don’t work great if you do it too thick as it takes ages to dry and doesn’t let the top coat set properly I think.
I did originally try to list the places I bought from in this post as I thought I’d put all my most recent purchases in one place but the title got ridiculously long. I did originally think of doing one or two of these separately but then I realised they were all arriving near each other and it would mean it was later for me to post any of the reviews and I’m really looking forward to some of these products. This post has a combination of orders from Amazon, ASOS and Superdrug but there’s also a couple of things I won on the village fete tombola that I thought I’d throw in here as well.
As you can see from the photo this post covers a lot of different things, most of them I’ll be posting about on here some time in the near future. Most of them are beauty products but there’s some DVDs and books thrown in there too.
