Review: Pusheen Super Meow-gical Bath Fizzers Gift Set

It feels a bit odd not doing anything Halloween this year, though I honestly ended up kind of forgetting about it in the lead up recently for some reason. I love Halloween decorations and movies and it somehow managed to creep up on me. I’ll probably end up watching movies and playing horror games for the next few weeks instead, November can be creepy right? Here’s a nice cute, fluffy Pusheen Christmas gift set review instead.

With the lead up to Christmas and so many gift sets out there I found a few that I wanted to try for myself and review for you guys. This is a small gift set with three bath fizzers in it from the Pusheen range at Boots and costs £6. It’s in the three for two offer they have on all of their gift sets around this time of year and this was the one I got free. I mainly bought it as I don’t have any bath bombs at the moment and was making a Boots order. I also may have a slight weakness for all things Pusheen and saw this after putting the nail art set in my basket. I’ll be reviewing that one later this week, or maybe next Monday depending on how long the nail varnish itself lasts.

This bath bomb set has a scent described as sweet and fruity so I was intrigued to see what that would be like, and how these bath bombs would work considering it’s a set for £6 and franchise products aren’t always the best quality for these kinds of things.

Nails of the Week: Pink or Purple?

pinkpurplenails1

I love the base coat I used for this, the Red Carpet Manicure Boats and Heels from their summer collection this year. It’s one of the neon pastels (or pastel neons) that have been so popular over the summer and I have to say it’s one of the summer trends for nails that I love as it doesn’t make me look even paler than I am. I’m not sure whether you’d call this one a purple or a pink, it’s right in the middle somewhere I think, it’s either a pinky purple or a blue toned pink.

I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with the nail art, I just liked the colour combination of purple or pink with black, white and silver accents. I also haven’t really used Thunder and Lightning from Models Own much and I love the holographic glitter in it so I felt like I had to include that in this one. I guess this post is going to be part nail art, part mini review of most of these colours. Continue reading

Nails of the Week: Mermaid Nails

A photo posted by Rhiannon (@thoughtfulpigeon) on Aug 26, 2016 at 9:15am PDT

I’m loving doing nail art at the moment and trying the different brands and tools to see which work best to do what with. I recently used the Zircon gel varnish from Red Carpet Manicure as it’s such a pretty, sparkly turquoise it just screamed summer to me so I wanted to use it while the sun is still out here in the UK, we’re having a surprisingly sunny summer where I live. After a few days of just this I decided to have a go at some mermaid themed nail art using two of the summer Models Own Soft Pop collection; Lilac Flush and Sugar Rush as I really like the purple and turquoise combination plus blue just goes with anything beach or water themed for me.

Review: Models Own Soft Pop Summer Nail Varnish Collection

softpop2 I am loving the colours of this summer’s nail varnish collections, the neon pastels, which sounds an odd combination, just work so well for me. It seems like some of the colours are pretty much in every collection, there are greens, blues and purples in all of them I’ve seen so far but the other colours do vary a bit. Models Own have released a collection of five and, as I wanted to get a pale blue and a green anyway, I decided to get the complete Soft Pop collection.

The colours in this collection are Lemon Popsicle (yellow), Cosy Posy (green), Sugar Rush (blue), Lilac Flush (purple) and Candy Floss (pink). They are part of the Hyper Gel range which, I think, are their nail varnishes that have that gel finish appearance without being gel nail varnishes. These are 14ml (0.47 fl oz) bottles and cost £5 each. I bought these on the Models Own website but I expect Superdrug to have them some time, they seem to have a lot of the Models Own range on there, just a bit delayed.

Recent Purchases: Sally’s Nail Varnishes

sallyshaul1

This wasn’t really a planned purchase, or I guess part of it was, but today I had a bit of a shopping trip to the local Sally’s and bought some nail varnish. I haven’t really kept up with the summer collections this year, in the past I’ve been looking up the bigger brands as they’re released and creating lists of the ones I’ve wanted, though hardly ever actually buying anything from them. This year I avoided it and ended up coming away with three of the summer nail polishes, two from the OPI Retro Summer Collection and one from the Red Carpet Manicure Escape to Paradise Collection.

If you don’t know what Sally’s is, it’s a store that sells a lot to people in the beauty industry so they have products on sale at reduced prices compared to the RRP. It’s mainly nail and hair products but they do have quite a few skin and face products too. The main reason I like them though, is that you get to see the gel nail varnishes in person before you buy them. I have never found any Red Carpet Manicure products in any physical shops in the UK. I have seen a couple of other brands but when I bought them they didn’t work with my light very well so I’ve stuck with RCM and it’s great to be able to see what they look like rather than relying on a computer screen version. You can find their website here, though I have had some problems with it loading so I can’t find the actual products.

Revie: Rio Professional Nail Art Pens in Neon

rionailartneon1

I’ve recently started doing more nail art and thought I’d like some new colours so bought the Neon set of Rio Professional Nail Art Pens, they’re £24.99 from Superdrug and there are six colours in the set. They do a few different sets, at the moment the ones I found on Superdrug are the original set, the neons and a set of metallic colours and there is a bit of overlap between the neon and original set with white and black being in both and both having a yellow in. As my black and white are getting low I was pretty happy with the double up on them which was one of the reasons I went for this one.

I’ve tried a few different makes of nail art pen and these ones are slightly different to the others I’ve used in that they have two ways of using them. If you twist the top off you get a fine brush for some details and then the end pulls off for a pen tip which has a finer tip for finer lines.

Review: Sleek Makeup Whimsical Wonderland Limited Edition Lip VIP Lipsticks

whimsicalwonderlandlipvips1

Recently Sleek released their limited edition Whimsical Wonderland collection which included an eyeshadow palette, three Lip VIP semi-matte lipsticks and three gel blushes. I did a post on the All the Fun of the Fair eyeshadow palette if you want to see that and will be doing one on the gel blush I bought as well on Friday so I’ll add the link here then.

I bought all three of the Lip VIPs as I liked the formula of the permanent line colours and these just looked so bright and I do have a bit of a weakness for purple lipsticks even if I rarely wear them. The three shades are Big Shot (light purple), Fancy Pants (coral) and Hot Tottie (bright pink) and they’re all very different to any of the colours in the permanent range. These cost £5.49 each and can be found on the Superdrug and Sleek Makeup websites, though they’re in a two for £10 offer at the moment in Superdrug along with some other Sleek things so it’s worth getting them from there if the offer’s still on when you look.
