My First Declutter of 2019!

The First Declutter of 2019 title image. Behind the text is a photo of all the products I decluttered spread out on a chair

I’ve been working on decluttering for the past couple of months, I’ve actually been pretty good and my cupboards look so much tidier. I’ve been sorting out my makeup recently and realised how much of the stuff I was keeping is just not me at all, or at least not any more. I’ve actually counted up how many things are in this declutter post and there’s fifty three pieces of makeup or accessories that are going! I didn’t realise I had that much!

I did start this off with a little review of each of them, but when you have fifty three to get through it would be so long, so instead I’m just going to link to any that I’ve already reviewed on here and say why I’m getting rid of them. I have to say there are a few that I never thought I’d declutter but they’re so old that if I did decide to reach for them I don’t think they’d do me any good. I have a new rule; if it smells like wax crayons, get rid of it!

Onto the decluttering….

Review: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water

Title image with a photo of the Smashbox Photo Finish primer water bottle in front of a yellow curtain backgroundSmashbox was one of the companies that I had on my to try list for this year. It may be near the end of 2018 but I recently got a set on offer in Boots so I’ve been trying the products that came in it, including this Travel Size Photo Finish Primer Water. This is a 30ml spray bottle that costs £12, though there is a larger 116ml version you can buy for £22 so it’s cheaper per ml but I do love these travel size bottles as they’re great to throw into a bag, plus it’s a great way to try a product if you’re not sure if you’ll like it.

Seeing that it said it’s a primer water I was expecting it to be one of those spray on primers but it’s actually also a setting spray or recommended for use as a bit of a pick my up in the middle of the day to refresh you and your makeup.

Smashbox Superstars Limited Edition Gift Set First Impressions

This wasn’t going to be my original post for today, but as it says this set is limited edition and it seems to be out of stock online already I wanted to put this up so you might be able to find it in a Boots near you. This is a sort of first impressions or look at what’s inside the Smashbox Superstars Box that’s on sale in Boots for £30 and has £88.50 worth of products in it. I have to admit I was sceptical about whether it was truly worth that much but I’ve put the links to each of them individually and it does add up.

Smashbox is one of those brands that seems expensive, or more expensive than I’d often spend on the products I’ve been interested in trying from them. However, they seem to get such good reviews they were one of the brands I put on my to try list this year so when I saw this set I had to get it. It’s supposed to contain some of their best selling products, with a Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette in Ablaze, Light Photo Finish Primer, Photo Finish Primer Water, SuperFan Mascara and their Contour Shadow Brush. I do have a weakness for brushes and have wanted to try one of theirs for a while but £20 for one brush was a bit out of what I spend on them, maybe this one will convert me.

Review: Tony Moly Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm Primer

tony-moly-egg-pore-silky-smooth-balm-primer-1

I’ve had the Tony Moly Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm in my drawer for a while, I’ve had a few primers to go through and try and it somehow ended up falling down the queue. Like a lot of Tony Moly products it has cute packaging, though it’s a lot bulkier than it needs to be it’s the kind of product that looks really nice sat out on the side. I got it for £9.99 in TK Maxx but I can’t find it there any more so it’d probably be eBay if I wanted to replace it.

This primer is supposed to contains egg, though I can’t see it in the ingredients specifically. It’s aimed at reducing pores and is that silky kind of primer that fills in pores and fine lines to leave a flatter surface for your foundation. It claims to help your makeup stay matte for longer, and as I prefer the matte look but have dry skin something that gives me that finish without adding to the dryness is always something I’d like to try.

Review: Pür Correcting Illuminate and Glow Primer

pur-illuminate-and-glow-primer-2

I have to admit that I’ve not always been a fan of primers as an added step in my beauty routine. I’ve tended not to use one, though one of my favourite foundations is a mix of powder foundation and primer mixer, so when I got the Pür Correcting Illuminate and Glow Primer in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar last year I didn’t have high expectations for it. I’ve heard of the brand, I think I may have tried something from them before, and it’s all been good so I did want to give this a proper go.

As it’s an illuminating primer it does have an aspect of shimmer to it, though I’m not sure exactly which of the Illuminate and glow primers it is, they have ones aimed at specific skin colour issues, I think it’s the summer one. It isn’t available in Marks and Spencer’s any more but I did find the full sized 30ml ones in Look Fantastic for £24 and Beauty Bay has the full sized tube for £22.50. There are also a lot of the mini sized 10 ml tubes, like the one I have, floating around on eBay if you want to find one to give it a go.they do also seem to come up as cheaper per ml so it may be worth having a look round on there.

Blogmas Day 24: Advent and Christmas Eve Traditions

It’s the second to last day of the Marks and Spencer’s advent calendar, though I know a lot of advent calendars end today and they always did when I was growing up. When does advent actually end? I always thought the 24th but so many include the 25th now too. Anyway, today’s gift is the Pur Illuminate and Glow Primer, the second primer in three days so I kind of wish they’d spread the two out a bit more. It’s a corrective primer that has some shimmer in it to give a glowy look for a base. The full sized tube is 30ml and £24 so this 10ml tube contains £8 of product. It has a bit of a peachy bronze look to me and definitely has shimmer in so I’m not sure how much I’ll use it as primer.

The second thing from an advent calendar, well kind of, is the Forest Walk Wax Tart from the Scented Seasons Shop Twelve Scents of Christmas set I bought and have been picking them out at random as a kind of home done advent calendar. The set was £15 for twelve wax tarts or they can be bought individually for £1.25 each where you pick your scents.

I can’t believe it’s Christmas Eve already! We have some things we do on Christmas Eve every year, they’ve become traditions as well as some of them being practical. Things like getting food bits ready or watching certain movies, I love these things that become traditions and are different for each family and don’t necessarily have anything too Christmassy about them.

Blogmas Day 22: Advent and Finally Organising My Makeup Storage

I’m never sure whether to class makeup primers as makeup or skin care, it’s sort of the step between the two, but it seems like this primer is also a moisturiser which is great if you have dry skin. The Autograph Hydrating Confidence Boost Primer is today’s gift from the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar so now you pretty much have the whole routine for pre makeup prep in mini sizes from this calendar. The full sized 30ml tube is £12.50 meaning this 15ml mini one is worth £6.75, so sort of mid range when it comes to price, and it’s cruelty free and vegan and vegetarian friendly.

It’s been a bit of a long project, or rather it’s been an on and off project, since I got the drawers for in my wardrobe to store my beauty things but it’s finally finished and I have my makeup drawer all organised. I’ve been thinking of doing a bit of a post on what I have and how I store it but not sure if anyone would be interested. It’s definitely not a big collection, it all fits in the one drawer, after my various destashing sessions throughout the year and probably half of it is eyeshadow palettes so not a huge variety in there either. Would anyone be interested in that?

Decluttering Eye Products

eyeproductsheader

I have to admit I wasn’t entirely sure what to call this decluttering post as it sort of covers a lot of different eye products, basically anything that isn’t eyeshadow or eyeliner. I included my two concealer palettes in here because I only really used them as under eye concealers, though they could probably have gone in a face products post as well. As with my previous decluttering posts I’ll link to any posts I’ve done to review these products and link to any of the ones I really liked.

When I was going through my makeup products I realised I have so many unopened, unused mascaras in there so I could probably have actually got rid of a few more, I just do like to at least try one kind of mascara before I get rid of it. It feels like every one of those spend X amount or buy this many products sets seems to come with a mascara so I hardly ever actually buy any myself.

Advent 2016: Day 23!

The Marks and Spencer advent calendar has a high end skin care product, the kind it’s fun to try but would be outside my budget for a daily use product in the Studio 10 Miracle Effect Priming Serum. The Yankee Candle is the very Christmassy scented Bundle Up and the Ciate Mini Mani Month had a mini bottle of Pliés Please Me, the Gelology version of a colour that’s a light blue or grey shimmer colour with a hint of a pink duochrome that gives it a light version of a petrol look nail varnish to me.

Advent 2016: Day 21!

Four sleeps till Christmas and I’m not finished with present buying, this is definitely cutting it fine and the advent calendars are looking empty. I have to say that I am loving the snowballs in the Lindt advent calendar. They’re one of the Lindt products I haven’t tried before this and I love the mix of white and milk chocolate and how it’s all melty. They’ll probably be on my list of chocolates to get in the future at Christmas.

The other advent calendars today gave me a bright pink nail varnish in the Ciate Mini Mani Month and it’s called Cupcake Queen which is probably one of the most appropriate names from the calendar, to me anyway. The Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar has a Pür Correcting Primer for normal skin which will be interesting to try and it’s a great travel size if I like it. The Yankee Candle is another Spiced Orange, one of the scents that has grown on me after the initial disappointment of it not being as orange as I expected the scent to be.
