The next few posts will be things I bought in the sales, mainly in Boots. I wasn’t sure whether to do these posts or not but I went into a few of my local Boots and every set I’m posting about was in at least one of them so I thought I would as you might be able to find them in your local store even if they’re sold out online.
I actually bought these sets just before Christmas, so now they’re half price. I’m not normally one to go for celebrity collaborations, but I dis like the look of the Claudia Winkleman Full Panda range she did with Boots. I’m hoping these will be an all year range but I have a feeling they may be Christmas only. I wanted to try everything but I got three to start with (there will be a couple more sets in a few days). I got the Add to Basket… set which has three eyeshadow sticks, All Week Long which has three lipsticks in it, and The Must Have Kit which has a bit of everything for a full face look in her style.
I’ve always loved No7 skin care, it just seems to work for my skin, but it seems so expensive to get a full sized version of the ones I want to try, so when I saw that they had their Best Face Forward Set, with eleven products in and quite a lot of them skincare, down at £39 I had to get it. As I’m writing this it’s still on offer so hopefully it’ll be available either in a store near you or online. Even if it isn’t, at the full price of £80 it’s a good deal compared to getting them individually which shows how much of a discount you get on offer.
Everything in the set is focused on your face, as the name suggests, with makeup, masks and general skin care products. They’re all full sized, though I don’t think you can buy the sheet mask individually, and a few of them are ones I know I love and had wanted to repurchase. This is basically a first impressions of the others as I know this won’t be around for long so wanted to get it up quickly but still tried everything. Also I will probably do reviews of almost everything in this box at some time, so any in particular you’re interested in please leave a comment and I’ll try to do that one early in the list.
Unfortunately, as I am writing this, the website is down ready for them to put it back up for the sale. I will add the links afterwards as I’m sure most of these, if not all, are permanent products so I’ll add the links then.
It’s November so it’s OK to talk about Christmas now right? I’ve started on the Christmas shopping and all the gifts are appearing in stores. I’m not sure if this is going to be a thing that comes out every year but last Christmas I bought a Smashbox set that’s sort of a taster set with a mix of travel sizes and full sizes of some of their best selling products and a full size Cover Shot palette. This year it’s the Cosmic Party Kit and cost £30 but contains over £90 worth of products. It says limited edition and I think it’s a limited number available rather than meaning just limited to Christmas.
I love sets like this that contain full sized products so
you can tell exactly what it would be worth and you basically get some of the
products for free. In this one a Cover Shot palette would cost £25 so if that’s
the product you’re most interested in you get the rest for £5. The Cover Shot
palette this time is the Major Metals one so it’s all metallic. The other
products included are full sized Full Exposure Mascara, Always On Gel Liner in
Fishnet (black) and Gloss Angeles Lip Gloss in 72 & Honey alongside a
travel sized tube of their Photo Finish Primer.
I do love a good beauty box, they can be a great way to try new products in a way that’s larger than the tiny samples you get for free. Debenhams have a Beauty Discovery Box, with seven travel sized products in it, for £35. At the moment there is an offer where if you buy a beauty of fragrance product then it’s half price. I can’t find anywhere that says that it’s got a minimum spend and I spent just over £20 and got the offer.
The seven products included cover hair, skin and makeup and
include products from Too Faced, Kat Von D, Clarins, Clinique, Smashbox, Murad
and Aveda. I have to say that the Too Faced mascara and the Smashbox primer are
the two that I wanted the most, and pretty much cover the cost of the box at
half price, but I am looking forward to trying the others. As with any of these
beauty box posts I do, this is pretty much first impressions, unless I’ve
already used the product in the past, and I’ll add up the total of what
everything would be worth separately to see if it’s worth the money.
I’ve been working on decluttering for the past couple of
months, I’ve actually been pretty good and my cupboards look so much tidier. I’ve
been sorting out my makeup recently and realised how much of the stuff I was
keeping is just not me at all, or at least not any more. I’ve actually counted
up how many things are in this declutter post and there’s fifty three pieces of
makeup or accessories that are going! I didn’t realise I had that much!
I did start this off with a little review of each of them,
but when you have fifty three to get through it would be so long, so instead I’m
just going to link to any that I’ve already reviewed on here and say why I’m
getting rid of them. I have to say there are a few that I never thought I’d declutter
but they’re so old that if I did decide to reach for them I don’t think they’d
do me any good. I have a new rule; if it smells like wax crayons, get rid of
Smashbox was one of the companies that I had on my to try list for this year. It may be near the end of 2018 but I recently got a set on offer in Boots so I’ve been trying the products that came in it, including this Travel Size Photo Finish Primer Water. This is a 30ml spray bottle that costs £12, though there is a larger 116ml version you can buy for £22 so it’s cheaper per ml but I do love these travel size bottles as they’re great to throw into a bag, plus it’s a great way to try a product if you’re not sure if you’ll like it.
Seeing that it said it’s a primer water I was expecting it to be one of those spray on primers but it’s actually also a setting spray or recommended for use as a bit of a pick my up in the middle of the day to refresh you and your makeup.
This wasn’t going to be my original post for today, but as it says this set is limited edition and it seems to be out of stock online already I wanted to put this up so you might be able to find it in a Boots near you. This is a sort of first impressions or look at what’s inside the Smashbox Superstars Box that’s on sale in Boots for £30 and has £88.50 worth of products in it. I have to admit I was sceptical about whether it was truly worth that much but I’ve put the links to each of them individually and it does add up.
Smashbox is one of those brands that seems expensive, or more expensive than I’d often spend on the products I’ve been interested in trying from them. However, they seem to get such good reviews they were one of the brands I put on my to try list this year so when I saw this set I had to get it. It’s supposed to contain some of their best selling products, with a Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette in Ablaze, Light Photo Finish Primer, Photo Finish Primer Water, SuperFan Mascara and their Contour Shadow Brush. I do have a weakness for brushes and have wanted to try one of theirs for a while but £20 for one brush was a bit out of what I spend on them, maybe this one will convert me.
I’ve had the Tony Moly Egg Pore Silky Smooth Balm in my drawer for a while, I’ve had a few primers to go through and try and it somehow ended up falling down the queue. Like a lot of Tony Moly products it has cute packaging, though it’s a lot bulkier than it needs to be it’s the kind of product that looks really nice sat out on the side. I got it for £9.99 in TK Maxx but I can’t find it there any more so it’d probably be eBay if I wanted to replace it.
This primer is supposed to contains egg, though I can’t see it in the ingredients specifically. It’s aimed at reducing pores and is that silky kind of primer that fills in pores and fine lines to leave a flatter surface for your foundation. It claims to help your makeup stay matte for longer, and as I prefer the matte look but have dry skin something that gives me that finish without adding to the dryness is always something I’d like to try.
I have to admit that I’ve not always been a fan of primers as an added step in my beauty routine. I’ve tended not to use one, though one of my favourite foundations is a mix of powder foundation and primer mixer, so when I got the Pür Correcting Illuminate and Glow Primer in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar last year I didn’t have high expectations for it. I’ve heard of the brand, I think I may have tried something from them before, and it’s all been good so I did want to give this a proper go.
As it’s an illuminating primer it does have an aspect of shimmer to it, though I’m not sure exactly which of the Illuminate and glow primers it is, they have ones aimed at specific skin colour issues, I think it’s the summer one. It isn’t available in Marks and Spencer’s any more but I did find the full sized 30ml ones in Look Fantastic for £24 and Beauty Bay has the full sized tube for £22.50. There are also a lot of the mini sized 10 ml tubes, like the one I have, floating around on eBay if you want to find one to give it a go.they do also seem to come up as cheaper per ml so it may be worth having a look round on there.
It’s the second to last day of the Marks and Spencer’s advent calendar, though I know a lot of advent calendars end today and they always did when I was growing up. When does advent actually end? I always thought the 24th but so many include the 25th now too. Anyway, today’s gift is the Pur Illuminate and Glow Primer, the second primer in three days so I kind of wish they’d spread the two out a bit more. It’s a corrective primer that has some shimmer in it to give a glowy look for a base. The full sized tube is 30ml and £24 so this 10ml tube contains £8 of product. It has a bit of a peachy bronze look to me and definitely has shimmer in so I’m not sure how much I’ll use it as primer.
The second thing from an advent calendar, well kind of, is the Forest Walk Wax Tart from the Scented Seasons Shop Twelve Scents of Christmas set I bought and have been picking them out at random as a kind of home done advent calendar. The set was £15 for twelve wax tarts or they can be bought individually for £1.25 each where you pick your scents.
I can’t believe it’s Christmas Eve already! We have some things we do on Christmas Eve every year, they’ve become traditions as well as some of them being practical. Things like getting food bits ready or watching certain movies, I love these things that become traditions and are different for each family and don’t necessarily have anything too Christmassy about them.
