How is it already over a week into December? It feels like everything is happening at once and the last minute panic for the presents I haven’t got yet is kicking in. I felt so organised this year as well. Probably doesn’t help that I’m ill and all the family gatherings seem to be happening now so I’m sort of only half there all the time. I’m hoping the antibiotics kick in before this weekend for the big family meal as we don’t get to see each other very often.
I love family get togethers, or catching up with friends, seeing people you don’t see for most of the year and catching up with their lives. The best ones are when it doesn’t feel like a year ago you last talked. Though it feels like there’s less family get together as I get older, I guess that happens naturally anyway as everyone starts their own families and new traditions, but it does feel weird sometimes. Do you guys have family meals and meet ups this time of year, or catching up with friends you hardly ever see?
I did have another post planned but as the Marks and Spencer’s Summer Beauty Boxarrived in the post today I couldn’t wait to do a post on the products in it. Similar to their beauty advent calendar these boxes have a much higher value than this price, this one is around £135 of products they say on the site, but you have to spend £40 in Marks and Spencer’s to get it for the discounted price of £15. Since I wanted curtains from there anyway I just added this to the basket as it’s such a bargain and there are a few products in here I was planning on getting anyway.
There’s quite a good range of different products in the box. Some are full sized and others are travel sized or deluxe samples but they cover the spectrum of beauty pretty well. There’s a couple of makeup bits with mascara and liquid lipstick, some summer products like after sun and SPF lip balms and quite a few hair and body products. It’s actually pretty evenly spread out and a great way to try some of these brands as the full sized products of some would cost more than the box and any that aren’t full sized are still a decent sample size.
Today was mince pie baking, something that always makes the house smell of Christmas, at least to me, so it really feels like the lead up to Christmas now. I know mince pies are a fairly stereotypically British Christmas thing but do people in other countries eat them too? Or does your country have something that’s ‘unusual’ as a food for around the holiday season? It’s something I’ve wondered as I only really see the German foods in local supermarkets and some Italian maybe but I have no idea if they’re Christmas food or just something we have at Christmas as something different and I see the more American foods in to shows and movies but I don’t know much about anywhere else.
I’ve mentioned before about my love for purple, especially when it comes to nail varnish, so today’s Ciate Mini Mani Month nail varnish in Chain Reaction is definitely a good one for me being a metallic shimmery royal purple. The Marks and Spencer present is one I’ve had before a couple of times, I think once in a beauty box and the other in last year’s calendar and it’s the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer which seems a staple in beauty subscription boxes. The Yankee Candle today is Spiced Orange, probably the least Christmassy of the scents to me so these are actually mainly being kept until after Christmas as I have more tea lights than I need in the run up to it. I’ve decided to go back to last year’s advent style and do this on the ipad because it’s a quick first impression after I’ve opened them, I may review some of these at another time. Do you guys like this or go back to on the laptop with a longer review?
Today’s advent presents were a tea light in icicle (I think, going by colour and scent description on the back) and a Philip Kingsley elasticizer in geranium and neroli.
I’ve been thinking about getting the Latest in Beauty Glamour beauty edit box since it came out though I was never completely sold on some of the products. I’ve seen reviews on youtube and read blogs on it and some of the products seemed good but I was always on the fence. Then I decided a week or two ago to get a magazine subscription for my iPad as I’m doing more travelling to see relatives and I remembered this box that includes a 1 year (or rather until January 2016) subscription to Glamour magazine, one of those magazines I tend to buy when I’m travelling to flick through in the evenings before bed or in the car. Add on the fact that it has 20% off the original price, bringing it down to around £13.60 and I was sold. It is still available here though I’m not sure if the code glamour20 still works, might be worth a try to see if it does if you want to buy it.
