I hate being ill, I know everyone says that and it’s probably pointless saying it, but it always seems to happen when there are fun things happening. I’m used to having to cancel because f various health issues, but for some reason when it’s a virus or something that’s going round I find it more annoying. It seems like this year there’s even more going round than normal.
Anyway, basically I’ve spent the past week on antibiotics feeling sorry for myself so the past few days have been trying to watch Christmassy movies and listen to songs and get back into the Christmas spirit. It’s kind of working, definitely going to be trying to watch at least one Christmas movie a day in the lead up to Christmas as I have so many on my to watch list. Do you guys have any favourites you watch every year? Any less well known ones you love and would recommend? I love finding new holiday movies to watch.
I did have another post planned but as the Marks and Spencer’s Summer Beauty Boxarrived in the post today I couldn’t wait to do a post on the products in it. Similar to their beauty advent calendar these boxes have a much higher value than this price, this one is around £135 of products they say on the site, but you have to spend £40 in Marks and Spencer’s to get it for the discounted price of £15. Since I wanted curtains from there anyway I just added this to the basket as it’s such a bargain and there are a few products in here I was planning on getting anyway.
There’s quite a good range of different products in the box. Some are full sized and others are travel sized or deluxe samples but they cover the spectrum of beauty pretty well. There’s a couple of makeup bits with mascara and liquid lipstick, some summer products like after sun and SPF lip balms and quite a few hair and body products. It’s actually pretty evenly spread out and a great way to try some of these brands as the full sized products of some would cost more than the box and any that aren’t full sized are still a decent sample size.
Today’s Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar is a perfume, and I think it’s the only perfume in the calendar. It’s a 10ml bottle of the Blood Orange scent from Shay and Blue. This is a mini version of the bottles available on the M&S website, it’s available in both a 30ml bottle for £30 or 100ml for £55 so this would be worth between £5.50 to £10 depending on which price you use. The company is definitely an affordable perfume brand and uses all natural fragrances and the 30ml bottle claims to have a pound of real fruit in there. The scent is a mix of blood orange, as the name says, and musks and leather and is on the edge of being a unisex scent to me.
The Winter Cranberry scent is today’s wax tart from the Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy Twelve Scents of Christmas set. I love having these to pick out every other day and do my own advent calendar style thing with them and so far these have impressed me. The set of twelve is £15 but they’re also available individually for £1.25 where you can pick your scents.
The latest Fortune Cookie Soap Soap Boxarrived on the weekend so, after trying everything out, today’s post is a mini review, first impressions type post for each of the upcoming Autumn scents. Fortune Cookie Soap are an American company that make bath and body products and their signature products it, unsurprisingly, a fortune cookie shaped soap. They release seasonal collections four times a year and these Soap Boxes are full of sample sizes of the upcoming scents in a range of products alongside two full sized products. Calling them sample sizes seems a bit mean considering the amount you get, they’re great travel sized minis and even the body butters can do more than one use if you’re careful with them.
As well as the seasonal collections often having the theme of the season, they also have a second theme. This time the theme is the movie Mean Girls which, I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen in a while so some of the references may go over my head. I was surprised at how many I actually got but fans of the movie will probably recognise everything. I do love how they use in jokes as well as the more well known references when it comes to these themes.
As this is the Autumn (Fall if you’re American) collection it isn’t actually available yet, the release date is August 18th at 6PM CST, I think that’s around midnight here in the UK. It’s worth either staying up late if you want something or waiting a bit as they often restock things a couple of weeks later and things sell out so fast.
Last Thursday the summer Soap Box from Fortune Cookie Soaparrived so I’ve had some time to play around with most of the products to see how they work. Fortune Cookie Soap are an American company that make bath and body products and, once every few months so each season, they release a main collection and you can see inscribe to their Soap Box so they send out a box full of said please and two full sized products, one in each of the upcoming scents.
Most seasons they tend to stay pretty much within the trends for that season but they also have a second theme and this one is one I love and am excited about as it’s Pirates of the Caribbean inspired with the name A Pirate’s Life for Me. You get six sample sizes and two full sized products. The ‘samples’ though are a pretty good size and you get multiple uses out if most of them, things like bath bombs and melts are one off but most have enough for multiple uses.
It’s Chriiiiiistmaaaaas! I always feel like that should be said in the style of Noddy Holder in the Slade song, it just feels wrong saying it’s Christmas any other way. I hope you’re all having a good day, it’s not too stressful and that you’re able to relax and have fun.
You don’t normally get advent presents on Christmas Day but I guess that Marks and Spencer decided to be different so this is the present for day 25. It’s a fair sized perfume, though it always feels a bit risky including a perfume in anything like this as it’s so personal and I find a lot of them go a bit odd on my skin. This perfume is from a company called Shay and Blue, a fairly new company having started in 2012, and it’s a 10ml bottle of Atropia Belladonna. Continue reading “Advent 2016: Christmas Day!”→
In the lead up to Christmas I may get slightly more excited by the idea of advent calendars than a grown up really should but with all of the options out there now, besides the chocolate ones, I think it’s acceptable, maybe buying three was less so though. I was originally planning on doing a post with information on a lot of the different advent calendars available but I got a bit overwhelmed by the range out there and all the different release dates so I missed that post this year, sorry guys.
However I have bought three advents calendars, one with Boots points but it’s still buying I guess, and as the latest of the bunch has arrived I thought I’d do a post on the ones I have. This post will contain spoilers in the form of a list of the products in there but, as I’m going to be good and open them as advent calendars, I haven’t got photos up of the products yet. I will be doing a daily post through December until the 24th with photos and first impressions posts as I have the past two years so if you want to see a bit more on any of these then check back in December.
It’s November and that means it’s the time of year when all the Christmas ranges are announced and released. It’s also time for the Fortune Cookie Soap Soap Box as the pre-release for the Christmas collection. If you haven’t heard of them Fortune Cookie Soap are an American company that sell bath and body products, with their signature product being a soap in the shape of a fortune cookie.
Their Soap Boxes are a quarterly subscription box that includes a range of products in all of the scents in the collection. They normally have a secondary theme alongside the general seasonal one and this Christmas it’s Narnia, which I love as I read those books a lot when I was growing up. This time there are eight scents all in this theme and this box has eight different products, including the full-sized fortune cookie soap and a hand sanitizer which you get in each box.
I realised, when working out what to include in this post, that I didn’t actually do one of these for June so this is going to be a bit of a two months in one. Also, it turns out that most things work on the new Windows 10 but edge does not like WordPress and my camera is not registering on there so this post is coming from my iPad including photos so may not be the best quality
I don’t know how many of you are in the UK and how many will have watched Robot Wars when it was first on, or on any of the repeats, but I love that show. As the new series has just started a lot of June and July I was watching the original series to get ready and I was surprised at how early I was watching it originally, it seems I started at series 2 with the original airing. So far I’m liking the new series though I do miss the rhymes from Craig Charles in the later series. Also some of my favourites aren’t in the new one but it was to be expected, I wonder how the original robots would have survived against the new ones. I did originally try to list the places I bought from in this post as I thought I’d put all my most recent purchases in one place but the title got ridiculously long. I did originally think of doing one or two of these separately but then I realised they were all arriving near each other and it would mean it was later for me to post any of the reviews and I’m really looking forward to some of these products. This post has a combination of orders from Amazon, ASOS and Superdrug but there’s also a couple of things I won on the village fete tombola that I thought I’d throw in here as well.
As you can see from the photo this post covers a lot of different things, most of them I’ll be posting about on here some time in the near future. Most of them are beauty products but there’s some DVDs and books thrown in there too.
