I’ve had my eye on some of the products from Candy Coat, a company who make gel nail varnishes and accessories and have just launched a beauty line, for a while. They have such a range of colours and finishes and the pastel colours in particular really caught my eye. They do kits which save money with the amount of nail varnishes in them and they include a base and top coat so you have everything (even the lamp if you pick that option) to start out and try the company. They also claim to last from three to ten weeks so I’m hoping these will last well and won’t peel off like some of the others I’ve tried.
As I got a bit overwhelmed with the different colours, there are so many to choose from, I decided to go for one of the kits. The Beginner Kit costs £60 for ten nail varnishes including the base and top coats and is a great value box to get started. I also picked one of the Hard Candy Builder Gels, these cost £15 so they’re more expensive but they can be used to extend your nails or build up your nails for added depth and nail art. I’ve always wanted to try one and as I was doing an order anyway I decided to get one to try.
This nail look isn’t exactly fresh but I had fun doing it so I wanted to share it with you guys, and I kind of love the final effect so will definitely be doing this more with other pigments too. I’ve had some sample sizes of loose eyeshadow pigments hanging around for year without getting any use so I thought I’d see if they worked for nail art, it’s not like I had anything to lose as I was probably going to get rid of them somehow.
I decided to go for a multicoloured pastel mix of colours for most of the nails with some added nail art with white, that was supposed to look like sparkle and stars but kind of failed, and a pearly unicorn on each of the thumbs. I’m happy with how this has turned out and think I’ll be going for the pastel multicoloured nails for a family wedding coming up, just worth knowing that they don’t necessarily last that long so I’ll be doing them a day or two before rather than a while in advance.
I love pump style shoes but for some reason my feet seem to be the wrong shape for them. This has led to many failed purchases and I am always on the lookout for ones that might work for me. The other day we went shopping and I found these Pavers Stacked Heel Pumps in the Pavers discount store for £29.99 from an original RRP of £44.99. They’re also available online and apparently they have a TV shopping channel, though I don’t know how many people can get it as it isn’t available in my area.
Over half way through the calendars already, this month is going so quickly and we still haven’t actually finished all of the decorating yet! Been a bit hectic and it’ll be busy in the lead up to Christmas too. Another skin product today from the Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar with a jar of Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Cream. The Ciate Mini Mani Month has a pale purple called Ibiza Blues that’s a nice cool frosty colour so a good winter one but can work the rest of the year and the Yankee Candle tea lit today is a Spiced Orange. I do like having the different scents each day rather than having one large jar burning all the time, gives a bit of variety and keeps it Christmassy at the same time. I am loving the colours of this summer’s nail varnish collections, the neon pastels, which sounds an odd combination, just work so well for me. It seems like some of the colours are pretty much in every collection, there are greens, blues and purples in all of them I’ve seen so far but the other colours do vary a bit. Models Own have released a collection of five and, as I wanted to get a pale blue and a green anyway, I decided to get the complete Soft Pop collection.
The colours in this collection are Lemon Popsicle (yellow), Cosy Posy (green), Sugar Rush (blue), Lilac Flush (purple) and Candy Floss (pink). They are part of the Hyper Gel range which, I think, are their nail varnishes that have that gel finish appearance without being gel nail varnishes. These are 14ml (0.47 fl oz) bottles and cost £5 each. I bought these on the Models Own website but I expect Superdrug to have them some time, they seem to have a lot of the Models Own range on there, just a bit delayed.
A week or so ago I went into Sally’s and bought a couple of the new Retro Summer Collection from OPI; SFP XXX (orangey coral colour) and I’m Getting a Tan-gerine (pastel orange) and I thought that for today’s post I’d combine two that I was planning on doing and have it a mix of a review of these two nail varnishes but also a NOTD type post with the nail art I have at the moment as I really wanted to try an ombre look and these colours just fit it perfectly to me.
I really like a lot of the Retro Summer Collection, it’s all cream finish and bright colours that I think would look great with a tan, I know that these two make me look more tanned than I am. I haven’t really been following the new releases this year but I really like the look of a lot of them I saw from all the different brands so I might be tempted to get a few more at some point soon. These cost £5 each at Sally’s but the prices seem to vary in other stores, they seem to be available in a lot of places and Amazon has them at a good price at the moment in some of the online stores.
Recently Sleek released their limited edition Whimsical Wonderland collection which included an eyeshadow palette, three Lip VIP semi-matte lipsticks and three gel blushes. I did a post on the All the Fun of the Fair eyeshadow palette if you want to see that and will be doing one on the gel blush I bought as well on Friday so I’ll add the link here then.
I bought all three of the Lip VIPs as I liked the formula of the permanent line colours and these just looked so bright and I do have a bit of a weakness for purple lipsticks even if I rarely wear them. The three shades are Big Shot (light purple), Fancy Pants (coral) and Hot Tottie (bright pink) and they’re all very different to any of the colours in the permanent range. These cost £5.49 each and can be found on the Superdrug and Sleek Makeup websites, though they’re in a two for £10 offer at the moment in Superdrug along with some other Sleek things so it’s worth getting them from there if the offer’s still on when you look.
Sleek recently released a collection for summer called the Whimsical Wonderland collection which is limited edition. I think it was released at the beginning of June some time here in the UK and includes an eyeshadow palette, three Lip VIP semi-matte lipsticks and three gel blushes. I got the three Lip VIPs (find my post here), the palette and one of the gel blushes (that post is here) and this post is a review of the palette, the others will be up next week if you want to check back and read them.
The palette itself is called All the Fun of the Fair and is a mix of matte and shimmers in pastel colours which gives a great range of light, summery shades to choose from. This twelve shade mineral eyeshadow palette is split fifty fifty with six mattes and six shimmers. It costs £8.99 and, at the moment, is in an offer of two for £10 on the Superdrug website. At the moment I can only find it on the Superdrug site or the Sleek Makeup website though I think it will probably be available in Boots as I can’t see anything calling it exclusive to those two.
