Is it just me or is it really hard to photograph holographic things? My mermaid nails finally gave up after nearly two weeks, or rather the nail art bits did, the gel would probably have carried on but I felt like a change so I decided to give these disco ball nails a go. Mermaid Gossip recently did a tutorial over on YouTube for holographic disco ball nails so I thought I’d give them a go. I decided to try them on an accent nail to start with as I didn’t really have the right nail art supplies and I am so glad I did as I really don’t have the patience for doing all.my nails like this.
I’ve wanted to try and perfect the ombre or gradient nails so decided to give them a go for the others, though holographic nail varnish is apparently not the best to use for that, and a bit of negative space nail art on my thumbs. I’m always worried my nails aren’t the best condition to try that so, as I don’t think this will be the longest lasting look as I can’t find my gel top coat so had to go with standard polishes, I thought now would be a good chance to give it a go and I’m actually happy with how it ended up.
I’m surprised how much I missed doing nail art when I started doing this. I’ve been watching quite a bit if Mermaid Gossip over on YouTube while I was tidying so decided to go for mermaid nails. It’s very similar to the ones I did last year in this post so I won’t go into detail on how I did it but I love the finished nails. It’s not been the best weather wise but these are so bright and summery and I’m hoping the Red Carpet Manicure gel will help my nails grow.
I seem to have been buying things recently, I do have a bit of a TK Maxx haul coming up that’s been building up for a few months so it’ll be a pretty big one and deserves its own post, I just haven’t been posting my recent purchases. I’ve found that posting then actually helps me to keep my spending down so I’m back to posting them more.
We recently found an out of city shopping centre that has some great shops in it, mainly TK Maxx and Marks & Spencer were the ones we’ve been to as I didn’t need clothes and most of the others would probably end up with me spending even more! Today’s post is the few things I got from M&S as well as their nail varnishes I bought in Sally’s on the same trip.
I realised that I haven’t done a nail look in ages, in fact I haven’t really done much with my nails in ages apart from paint them one colour so, to make myself feel better, I decided to give it a bit of a go and try some dots and lines. Mainly because I just had no idea what I was going to do when I started out so starting with them as a base is always easy to build on rather than specific shapes.
I think I might need to get better at naming nail looks, I am so bad when it comes to naming anything really but I think this one fits given the names and colours I used. As I’ve also had a bit of a play around with the three Gelologoy formula Ciate polishes I used in this nail art I thought I’d do a mini review of each of them as they do seem to work very differently.
I love the base coat I used for this, the Red Carpet Manicure Boats and Heels from their summer collection this year. It’s one of the neon pastels (or pastel neons) that have been so popular over the summer and I have to say it’s one of the summer trends for nails that I love as it doesn’t make me look even paler than I am. I’m not sure whether you’d call this one a purple or a pink, it’s right in the middle somewhere I think, it’s either a pinky purple or a blue toned pink.
I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with the nail art, I just liked the colour combination of purple or pink with black, white and silver accents. I also haven’t really used Thunder and Lightning from Models Own much and I love the holographic glitter in it so I felt like I had to include that in this one. I guess this post is going to be part nail art, part mini review of most of these colours. Continue reading
A week or so ago I went into Sally’s and bought a couple of the new Retro Summer Collection from OPI; SFP XXX (orangey coral colour) and I’m Getting a Tan-gerine (pastel orange) and I thought that for today’s post I’d combine two that I was planning on doing and have it a mix of a review of these two nail varnishes but also a NOTD type post with the nail art I have at the moment as I really wanted to try an ombre look and these colours just fit it perfectly to me.
I really like a lot of the Retro Summer Collection, it’s all cream finish and bright colours that I think would look great with a tan, I know that these two make me look more tanned than I am. I haven’t really been following the new releases this year but I really like the look of a lot of them I saw from all the different brands so I might be tempted to get a few more at some point soon. These cost £5 each at Sally’s but the prices seem to vary in other stores, they seem to be available in a lot of places and Amazon has them at a good price at the moment in some of the online stores.
This wasn’t really a planned purchase, or I guess part of it was, but today I had a bit of a shopping trip to the local Sally’s and bought some nail varnish. I haven’t really kept up with the summer collections this year, in the past I’ve been looking up the bigger brands as they’re released and creating lists of the ones I’ve wanted, though hardly ever actually buying anything from them. This year I avoided it and ended up coming away with three of the summer nail polishes, two from the OPI Retro Summer Collection and one from the Red Carpet Manicure Escape to Paradise Collection.
If you don’t know what Sally’s is, it’s a store that sells a lot to people in the beauty industry so they have products on sale at reduced prices compared to the RRP. It’s mainly nail and hair products but they do have quite a few skin and face products too. The main reason I like them though, is that you get to see the gel nail varnishes in person before you buy them. I have never found any Red Carpet Manicure products in any physical shops in the UK. I have seen a couple of other brands but when I bought them they didn’t work with my light very well so I’ve stuck with RCM and it’s great to be able to see what they look like rather than relying on a computer screen version. You can find their website here, though I have had some problems with it loading so I can’t find the actual products.
I realised that I made a post about a couple of the nail varnishes I bought from Sally’s recently and mentioned others but didn’t actually post about them. As one of them has become a favourite of mine I felt like I should finally make a post on the two OPI polishes I bought. I’m not sure how much these will cost in different stores, we got the discount because mum’s hairdresser told us to mention him. They cost £5 each, though I think they’re sold at full price in their stores at £9.95 which is still less than I’ve found them on other sites in the UK. I can’t get the website to work for me for some reason to check their pricing but I’ve seen these two at £12.95 on other sites or out of stock.
The two colours that I bought were Tickle My France-y, a really nice nude, and Chasing Rainbows which is a really pretty multi-coloured glitter wish different sizes and colours mixed in there. I’ve wanted a proper multi-coloured glitter for a while and have also been looking out for a good nude that suits my skin tone as a lot of the really light ‘nude’ colours look like they’d match but just make me look washed out.
I’m pretty good when it comes to not buying too much makeup or body products, I might have quite a lot of loose pigments from Shiro Cosmetics and eyeshadows palettes but I’m going through my makeup collection every so often to make sure it doesn’t build up. I always make sure that all of my makeup will fit inside one drawer and all of my perfume and nail varnishes fit inside another. I know I have more than I need but I like collecting the makeup and I don’t go over the top with most things.
This week as I haven’t been feeling good I decided to get the couple of tray things I keep my makeup in and sort through them, does anyone else find that clearing things out and sorting through things makes you feel more refreshed? Other than a few things, which I will say as I go along, I am not actually throwing these things out, they’re going to be offered to people and some of them possibly put on eBay in a while when I’ve got some more things from my room when I sort it better.
I have recently ended up watching a lot of decluttering videos on YouTube as well so I think that inspired me a bit. Like with a lot of those YouTubers I watch most of these things I am getting rid of because I have dupes that I prefer or that I have simply not used them in so long or I like them but they aren’t me. I’ll stop giving an explanation and get on with it.
This is a bit late, I should have done this about a week ago really, but this is the November favourites post. It took me a while to think of some things as I haven’t been out all that much and used anything new makeup wise but realised there are some things that I have loved in the month even if there are less than normal.
