August Hits and Misses from my Makeup Collection

august-makeup-hits-and-misses-makeup-collection-1

I can’t believe it’s September already, not sure where August went but it’s time for another of these posts without a proper official name yet. To help me sort through my collection, rather than just doing declutters (though I did do a bit of one this month anyway) I’m putting makeup that I hardly use in my dresser so that I decide whether I actually want to keep it. I’ve got so much stuff that I’ve kept just in case or because I liked it when I got it that I thought this was the easiest way to see if I would actually use it or still like it rather than just thinking I do because I used to.

Basically I can only use these older products when it comes to the product types, so things like my staples aren’t included as otherwise it’d be the same each month. This month I’ve gone through more of my old eyeshadow palettes, these are what makes up more than half of my collection so I’ve got five or six at a time out each month and can only use them. I also got out an old foundation, which was probably beyond when I should have used it anyway, the NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk which I’ve barely used since I first got it, and a colour correction powder from Shiro Cosmetics.

Review: IDC Color Natural Eyeshadow Palette (and a Bit of a Comparison to the Naked 3)

I really didn’t need any more eyeshadow palettes, especially neutral ones, but it was one of those days when you’re looking on a website and something seems like such a good price so I got it. It’s the IDC Color Makeup Natural Eyeshadow Palette, which is pretty much the closest dupe packaging wise I have ever seen for the Naked 3 palette and the colours inside aren’t bad either. I can’t remember if this palette was £6.99 or £7.99 but for the twelve eyeshadows it seemed such a great price and I was interested to see how close it would be to the Naked 3 as I haven’t actually seen reviews of this palette around. It does claim to have a RRP of £42.99 but I think that’s a bit of a stretch when the only online stores I can find have it around €10.

I have to say that normally I don’t go for products that are so obviously close to the originals (as far as I can tell this is a newer palette than the Naked 3 but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, they’re just so similar it feels like it’s trying to be a dupe), it’s one of the reasons I haven’t gone for more of the Makeup Revolution chocolate palettes, but it was a moment of weakness so I thought I’d give it a proper try as I’d bought it. I also got their Bonbon palette, a dupe for the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette which I’m going to try next. I decided that, as this is so close to the Naked 3 palette I’m going to have the first half of this post be a review of the palette by itself and the second half will have some comparisons to the Urban Decay palette. If you’re only interested in seeing how they compare scroll down through the first bit.

February Favourites: Makeup and Music

feb20161

Quite a few of my favourites this month are things I’ve used before but have started to use more again because of the change in my skin. I was taken off my medication and changed to a topical solution so it’s taking a while to settle down, if it does, and there’s a few products that give more coverage then I’ve used in the past. I am on the lookout for a good moisturiser with SPF my skin gets on with so of anyone has any suggestions, preferably SPF 20 or higher I’m going to be trying some in the near future.

I’ll put the few TV shows I’ve been loving as well, I seem to do this every month. I have seen the new X Files and I know its not far in but I do really like it, will be interesting to see where it goes. I watched quite a few if the old ones over the past ten years when they were on in the middle if the day and I didn’t have anything to do and I really liked then, I’m going to watch some of them again from the beginning I think. NCIS is always a favourite for me and I watch it with my parents, this season is still good though there have been some weaker episodes. It’s always a bit odd watching these so much later than in the USA, the Halloween episode was only a couple of weeks ago. We started watching this late as we recorded it on Sky+ which is why it’s in February rather than earlier. Also loved Vera and Midsomer Murders, a couple of good UK detective shows though Midsomer Murders must be running out of people to kill in those small villages!

Review: Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

Naked3-1

About a month ago I bought the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, a bit late compared to everyone else but I’ve wanted one of the Naked palettes and the rose gold colours in this were so pretty I had to go for this one. It cost £38 on the John Lewis website, I decided against getting it from somewhere cheaper as I’ve already had one fake Naked 2 palette from eBay I didn’t want to risk another fake. It’s more than I spend on most palettes, I think the only exception is one from the Balm, but I thought it would be worth it having heard such great reviews of it since it’s been out.

Recent Purchases: Boots and John Lewis

recentpurchasesbootsJL4

This is a mini recent purchases because I think these four things are all ones I’m really excited to try so wanted to do a sort of first impressions before I do a proper review after playing around a bit with them. I made a couple of orders, one from Boots and one from John Lewis for presents and things and got these too, one is kind of a treat for finishing my course as I have been wanting any of the Naked palettes for ages and it seemed like a good reason to get one.
