I haven’t really been to many Christmas markets, probably only two before this one, but there was a Christmas market fair turning on the lights thing today in the local town so we went and had a wander round. I did end up buying some food, everything always looks so good I could ave bought way more, and I kind of wish I’d bought some of the tombola tickets, but it a definitely worth a wander round for an hour or so.
Do any of you go to Christmas fairs or markets? I tend to find with bigger ones you have so many stalls with exactly the same things being sold but this one was local companies, mainly food, with a few handmade crafts and drink stalls. Wasn’t the most Christmassy weather to wander round in but it was fun and getting there early, quite a bit before thee lights were turned on, was a good idea. Will definitely be going back next year if we’re around and they do it.
In the Holland and Barrett advent calendar there were two of the Nails Inc Green Fingers Bio-Sourced nail varnishes, one in a deep red, called Pressed Juniper, and another in pale pink, called Thistle Fade. I think this is a new range, or maybe I’ve just missed out on it in the past, and is suitable for vegans and vegetarians and uses plant based proteins to improve the quality of your nails. At least that’s the plan anyway.
These are the same size as the old standard Nails Inc nail varnishes, with each bottle holding 10ml, though the new square Nails Inc bottles hold 14ml. They cost £11 each so cheaper than the £15 of their standard range with 4ml less in each bottle. They’re also available in a range of colours, though it’s not great and is mainly pastels there are a few different nude and pale pink colours.
It doesn’t feel like December at the moment, it’s too warm for this time of year, so much for the snow we were supposed to be getting from November.
The advent calendars today had some more goodies, I do love trying new nail varnishes, though I should probably reducing my nail varnish collection rather than adding to it. The Funko Pop figure is the first of the Hogwarts pets. Crookshanks is almost as big as the other figures but still a very cute looking angry cat!
Or maybe a better title would be ‘Why I Shouldn’t Keep Things Too Long.’ I’ve had a look through my collection and realised that some I used to love have gone beyond when they should be used, others are simply products I never really got on with but kept ‘just in case’ or free gift with purchases that I already had better versions of but kept anyway.
I’ve been working through my stash and using some of the ones that have fallen through the cracks or ones I haven’t used recently to decide which I’ll keep and which I’ll get rid of. At the end of the month there probably will be more joining these decluttered products but I wanted to do this as a separate post as otherwise that end of the month one will be way too long, plus these are ones I just don’t think I want to even try for the whole month before I get rid of them.
Today’s been another busy day so another late Blogmas post tonight, though maybe it’s a better time for some of you as it seems to be getting more views on my later posts. The Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar gift for today is another staple of beauty gift sets year round in a bottle of nail varnish, I think this is the first of two in this advent calendar. This is a full sized Nails Inc One Coat Gel Finish nail polish in the colour Molten Star. It’s a warm coppery gold that looks like it has tiny holographic shimmer particles in it but I can’t actually find it for sale in any store online so maybe it’s an exclusive. If you do want it though there are a few people listing them on eBay for £5 to £10. The range in general is £13 for this 10ml bottle and it’s a nice colour for all year round so will be interesting to see how good this one is.
Pink Pomegranate is one of those scents that I’ve never heard of before this Christmas but it seems like maybe it’s a standard Christmas scent. Have any of you guys heard of it? Maybe I’ve just missed it every year. These wax tarts, the ones I’ve tried so far, have a good throw and last pretty well. They’ve been burnt for 6 hours and still smelling pretty strong cold when I took them out of the burner. This is from the Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy. It’s not technically an advent calendar, it’s a set of all twelve Christmas scents they do, but I’m picking them out at random every other day so it kind of is. I only got this nail varnish today but as it was in a magazine offer I wanted to do the post asap because I know how quickly these things disappear and I don’t know how long it’s been out. This Porchester Square nail varnish was a free gift in the UK Elle magazine, which also came with a Cosmopolitan and cost £4.50 which is a great price for an almost full sized Nails Inc polish, these are 10ml compared to the 14 ml of a full sized one. I have a feeling that this one won’t be around much longer as it’s the May edition (with Victoria Beckham on the front) so that tends to mean the June one will be out soon going by when magazines are released.
I can’t seem to find this in the same bottle on their website but it is available in the newer design 14ml bottle here for £15. I’m not sure which style bottle I prefer but I’m pretty sure it’s the same formula so it’s not one of those colours made exclusively for a magazine that you can never find again. That annoys me when you find a colour you love with a magazine but it’s not available afterwards. I also seem to find that a lot of Nails Inc polishes you get free with magazine seem consistently better to me than ones I’ve actually bought full price.
Today is another two nail varnish day and it’s another deep berry shade, though this time it’s a gel effect non shimmer from Nails Inc in the Marks and Spencer calendar. I don’t mind getting more nail varnish, I do love berry shades and some Nails Inc colours have been great formulas, I have had a few misses from them but I’m hoping this is a hit. I can see some people not being so pleased with the two colours being so similar but it is a nice winter colour and different from a standard red like we got last year.
The other two calendars have a tea light in Christmas Cookie in the Yankee Candle advent calendar and the Ciate Mini Mani Month has a really nice blue duochrome glitter top coat called Risky Business. Continue reading “Advent 2016: Day 10”→
I’m pretty good when it comes to not buying too much makeup or body products, I might have quite a lot of loose pigments from Shiro Cosmetics and eyeshadows palettes but I’m going through my makeup collection every so often to make sure it doesn’t build up. I always make sure that all of my makeup will fit inside one drawer and all of my perfume and nail varnishes fit inside another. I know I have more than I need but I like collecting the makeup and I don’t go over the top with most things.
This week as I haven’t been feeling good I decided to get the couple of tray things I keep my makeup in and sort through them, does anyone else find that clearing things out and sorting through things makes you feel more refreshed? Other than a few things, which I will say as I go along, I am not actually throwing these things out, they’re going to be offered to people and some of them possibly put on eBay in a while when I’ve got some more things from my room when I sort it better.
I have recently ended up watching a lot of decluttering videos on YouTube as well so I think that inspired me a bit. Like with a lot of those YouTubers I watch most of these things I am getting rid of because I have dupes that I prefer or that I have simply not used them in so long or I like them but they aren’t me. I’ll stop giving an explanation and get on with it.
I’m not subscribed to any beauty boxes for two main reasons; I don’t want to pay for things I won’t use and I know that I’ll just end up with the samples piling up and some not getting used. I love that with the Latest in Beauty boxes you don’t have either problem, you can see exactly what you’re getting, there are a few variations on colour or product but it warns you on the website if that’s the case. Also as it’s not a monthly subscription you buy a one off box then you only buy them when you want. I’ve bought a couple before and posted about them, I think all three have been worth the money and are great if you like to try new products as the sample sizes are pretty decent most of the time. I think I’ve only had one or two that were one use or less apart from the products that would be single use anyway.
These boxes normally cost between £15 and £20 and contain full size as well as sample or mini travel products. This box cost £17.95 and can be found here on their website.
This is another post that’s going up later than I intended (though it does mean I’m posting every day this week, this feels rather odd and too organised of me!) as I meant to post this on May 1st as it’d be the right time for an April’s favourites really. I love reading these from other people, though I’ve not got round to doing any for this blog before now so I thought I’d start one, it’s always interesting to see the things people really use as well as review, at least that’s what I think.
