#NOTD: Cute Pastel Unicorn Nails

I had to take this with these shoes, they fit the nail colours too perfectly not to

This nail look isn’t exactly fresh but I had fun doing it so I wanted to share it with you guys, and I kind of love the final effect so will definitely be doing this more with other pigments too. I’ve had some sample sizes of loose eyeshadow pigments hanging around for year without getting any use so I thought I’d see if they worked for nail art, it’s not like I had anything to lose as I was probably going to get rid of them somehow.

I decided to go for a multicoloured pastel mix of colours for most of the nails with some added nail art with white, that was supposed to look like sparkle and stars but kind of failed, and a pearly unicorn on each of the thumbs. I’m happy with how this has turned out and think I’ll be going for the pastel multicoloured nails for a family wedding coming up, just worth knowing that they don’t necessarily last that long so I’ll be doing them a day or two before rather than a while in advance.

Blogmas Day 21: Advent and Christmas Nails

Today’s Blogmas is half advent and half Nails. I meant to do more posts like this throughout December but it’s been more hectic than I expected and it’s only just now I’ve got the energy and time to do more than a quick review! Today’s advent gift from the Marks and Spencer’s beauty calendar is a Rose Otto Face Oil from Balance Me, a company I’ve heard of but never had anything from. The full sized version is 30ml and comes in a glass bottle with a dropper for £32 so this 10ml roll on version is worth around £11. As with any skin care to get a proper idea of how it works you need to use it longer term than one day but I’ll give my first impressions anyway.

The Wax Tart today in the Twelve Scents of Christmas gift set (£15) from Seasonal Scents Shop is the Spiced Orange scent, a standard for Christmas and one of my favourites. I love how waxy tarts can be mix and match to make cocktails of scent but you do need a wax burner for them. They’re available a lot of places for pretty cheap so it’s not hard to find if you feel like trying them.

I do love nail art, I just haven’t really done as much of it this year as I have for various reasons but I felt like going with a snowflake theme as it had snowed earlier in the week when I did them. I also know I like this look as I did it last year but nothing wrong wit going back to a design you love, I do it all the time.

Nail Art: Holographic Disco Balls

Is it just me or is it really hard to photograph holographic things? My mermaid nails finally gave up after nearly two weeks, or rather the nail art bits did, the gel would probably have carried on but I felt like a change so I decided to give these disco ball nails a go. Mermaid Gossip recently did a tutorial over on YouTube for holographic disco ball nails so I thought I’d give them a go. I decided to try them on an accent nail to start with as I didn’t really have the right nail art supplies and I am so glad I did as I really don’t have the patience for doing all.my nails like this.

I’ve wanted to try and perfect the ombre or gradient nails so decided to give them a go for the others, though holographic nail varnish is apparently not the best to use for that, and a bit of negative space nail art on my thumbs. I’m always worried my nails aren’t the best condition to try that so, as I don’t think this will be the longest lasting look as I can’t find my gel top coat so had to go with standard polishes, I thought now would be a good chance to give it a go and I’m actually happy with how it ended up.

NOTD: Mermaid Nails

I’m surprised how much I missed doing nail art when I started doing this. I’ve been watching quite a bit if Mermaid Gossip over on YouTube while I was tidying so decided to go for mermaid nails. It’s very similar to the ones I did last year in this post so I won’t go into detail on how I did it but I love the finished nails. It’s not been the best weather wise but these are so bright and summery and I’m hoping the Red Carpet Manicure gel will help my nails grow.

Nails: Coffee, Cream and Rose Gold

I realised that I haven’t done a nail look in ages, in fact I haven’t really done much with my nails in ages apart from paint them one colour so, to make myself feel better, I decided to give it a bit of a go and try some dots and lines. Mainly because I just had no idea what I was going to do when I started out so starting with them as a base is always easy to build on rather than specific shapes.

I think I might need to get better at naming nail looks, I am so bad when it comes to naming anything really but I think this one fits given the names and colours I used. As I’ve also had a bit of a play around with the three Gelologoy formula Ciate polishes I used in this nail art I thought I’d do a mini review of each of them as they do seem to work very differently.

My First Try at Nail Stamping

Nail Stamping supplies

On Monday I did a post about the nail stamping kit and a few extras I bought from Rainbow Connect. I was planning on waiting but my nails got to the point where I needed to do them so I decided to have a play around and have a go at nail stamping. This is my first time using any of this and I am definitely learning but I thought I’d post about it anyway, if nothing else it’ll be interesting in the future to see improvements!

I did read this post over on Mrs Strawberry Blonde for information I was recommended by Stashmatters (thanks for that, there are definitely things in there I might have had to work out the hard way!) and it’s a great post if you’re starting out with nail stamping. Definitely listen to the part about having a magazine or something for protection, I think I underestimated how messy it would be even with this! This post is pretty much seeing how it went and things I learnt along the way or what I’m going to do differently next time.

Boxing Day Sale Haul: Rainbow Connection

I didn’t buy much from the Boxing Day sales but I did make an order from Rainbow Connection, a site that sells indie nail polishes and nail art supplies in the UK. Not all of it is here, a few of the stamper plates haven’t got here yet, but as most of it arrived I thought I’d do a post on it. I will be reviewing pretty much all of this at some point anyway so I’ll post the rest of the stamping plates then.

For the last few years I’ve been planning on trying nail stamping, it always looks so good when other people do it and I love how intricate the designs can be even if my hands are shaky. Most of my order was for this; a nail stamper set that was on offer, some plates, a couple of nail varnishes sold for stamping and then a few extras that caught my eye. I am yet to find a good gel nail varnish company that works for me apart from Red Carpet Manicure and I love holographic nails so I bought one of the Color Club gel nail varnishes as well as a couple of non gels that were in the destashing or old stock section from Organic Farm. I hadn’t heard of them before but apparently they’re from Korea and hard to get in the UK, so even if I love them I’m not sure how easily I could get more from them but these colours are so pretty.

Review: Pusheen Nail Art Set

This is the second Pusheen gift set I’m reviewing and this one was definitely better than the bath fizzers set from Monday. This is the Pusheen Nail Art Set and costs £8 at Boots, though it’s in the Christmas three for two offer. In the set there are three nail varnishes in the shape of upside down ice cream cones, a Pusheen shaped nail file, two toe separators, a black nail art pen and a sheet of Pusheen stickers (which may have been the main draw for me).

In the past I have bought a few nail art sticker sets and they all seem to have the same flaw of the stickers coming up at the edges quickly, I’m not sure I will ever learn that this happens but these were so cute and I do love Pusheen so I thought I’d give them a go. I know that I am probably twice the age of its intended audience, being 27, but I liked it and thought I’d review it in case any of you guys are interested in it, whether it’s for yourself or someone else. I do think it makes a very nice gift set with everything n there, like an introduction to nail art.

Review: Models Own Dare To Bare Hypergel Nail Varnish Collection (Or Some of it)

Models Own recently released the Dare to Bare collection, one full of products with neutral colours. These include Hypergel nail varnishes, an eyeshadow palette, semi-matte lipsticks (I reviewed a couple of them here) and a finishing powder. I love nude nail varnishes, especially in autumn, and I bought three out of the five nail varnishes available. The three I chose are Deep Tan, Skin Deep and Emperors Clothes, mainly because these three were the only ones available on ASOS at the time. These are available, along with the other two in the collection, on ASOS where they’re currently in an offer at £3.50 and all five can be found on the Models Own website where they cost £4.99 each.

Not to do with the nail varnishes but I bought these from ASOS, one arrived broken as you may see the remains of the nail varnish itself on the bottles. I have to say that the customer service I got was great, even when the form accidentally sent twice so I ended up with two conversations for a while. I got a replacement ,though unfortunately the wrong one first try so had to have a second one done, and it was all sorted within a week. Basically thumbs up for ASOS when it comes to sorting problems and I’d recommend them over Models Own due to problems in the past.

Nails of the Week: Pink or Purple?

I love the base coat I used for this, the Red Carpet Manicure Boats and Heels from their summer collection this year. It’s one of the neon pastels (or pastel neons) that have been so popular over the summer and I have to say it’s one of the summer trends for nails that I love as it doesn’t make me look even paler than I am. I’m not sure whether you’d call this one a purple or a pink, it’s right in the middle somewhere I think, it’s either a pinky purple or a blue toned pink.

I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with the nail art, I just liked the colour combination of purple or pink with black, white and silver accents. I also haven’t really used Thunder and Lightning from Models Own much and I love the holographic glitter in it so I felt like I had to include that in this one. I guess this post is going to be part nail art, part mini review of most of these colours. Continue reading
