#NOTD: Cute Pastel Unicorn Nails

cute-pastel-unicorn-nail-art-1

I had to take this with these shoes, they fit the nail colours too perfectly not to

This nail look isn’t exactly fresh but I had fun doing it so I wanted to share it with you guys, and I kind of love the final effect so will definitely be doing this more with other pigments too. I’ve had some sample sizes of loose eyeshadow pigments hanging around for year without getting any use so I thought I’d see if they worked for nail art, it’s not like I had anything to lose as I was probably going to get rid of them somehow.

I decided to go for a multicoloured pastel mix of colours for most of the nails with some added nail art with white, that was supposed to look like sparkle and stars but kind of failed, and a pearly unicorn on each of the thumbs. I’m happy with how this has turned out and think I’ll be going for the pastel multicoloured nails for a family wedding coming up, just worth knowing that they don’t necessarily last that long so I’ll be doing them a day or two before rather than a while in advance.

Nails: Coffee, Cream and Rose Gold

nailscoffeecreamheader.jpg

I realised that I haven’t done a nail look in ages, in fact I haven’t really done much with my nails in ages apart from paint them one colour so, to make myself feel better, I decided to give it a bit of a go and try some dots and lines. Mainly because I just had no idea what I was going to do when I started out so starting with them as a base is always easy to build on rather than specific shapes.

I think I might need to get better at naming nail looks, I am so bad when it comes to naming anything really but I think this one fits given the names and colours I used. As I’ve also had a bit of a play around with the three Gelologoy formula Ciate polishes I used in this nail art I thought I’d do a mini review of each of them as they do seem to work very differently.

Nails of the Week: Pink or Purple?

pinkpurplenails1

I love the base coat I used for this, the Red Carpet Manicure Boats and Heels from their summer collection this year. It’s one of the neon pastels (or pastel neons) that have been so popular over the summer and I have to say it’s one of the summer trends for nails that I love as it doesn’t make me look even paler than I am. I’m not sure whether you’d call this one a purple or a pink, it’s right in the middle somewhere I think, it’s either a pinky purple or a blue toned pink.

I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with the nail art, I just liked the colour combination of purple or pink with black, white and silver accents. I also haven’t really used Thunder and Lightning from Models Own much and I love the holographic glitter in it so I felt like I had to include that in this one. I guess this post is going to be part nail art, part mini review of most of these colours. Continue reading

Nails of the Week: Mermaid Nails

A photo posted by Rhiannon (@thoughtfulpigeon) on Aug 26, 2016 at 9:15am PDT

I’m loving doing nail art at the moment and trying the different brands and tools to see which work best to do what with. I recently used the Zircon gel varnish from Red Carpet Manicure as it’s such a pretty, sparkly turquoise it just screamed summer to me so I wanted to use it while the sun is still out here in the UK, we’re having a surprisingly sunny summer where I live. After a few days of just this I decided to have a go at some mermaid themed nail art using two of the summer Models Own Soft Pop collection; Lilac Flush and Sugar Rush as I really like the purple and turquoise combination plus blue just goes with anything beach or water themed for me.

Revie: Rio Professional Nail Art Pens in Neon

rionailartneon1

I’ve recently started doing more nail art and thought I’d like some new colours so bought the Neon set of Rio Professional Nail Art Pens, they’re £24.99 from Superdrug and there are six colours in the set. They do a few different sets, at the moment the ones I found on Superdrug are the original set, the neons and a set of metallic colours and there is a bit of overlap between the neon and original set with white and black being in both and both having a yellow in. As my black and white are getting low I was pretty happy with the double up on them which was one of the reasons I went for this one.

I’ve tried a few different makes of nail art pen and these ones are slightly different to the others I’ve used in that they have two ways of using them. If you twist the top off you get a fine brush for some details and then the end pulls off for a pen tip which has a finer tip for finer lines.

Nails of the Week: Patches

image

I don’t think I’ve done a post about nail art before and as I was pretty happy with how this turned out I thought I’d do a post on it. I’m not sure how Nails of the Week will work as a title, partly because these often last a couple of weeks, but I don’t do them often enough to do a nails of the day type post so it’s a work in progress title. The idea is from an old BubzBeauty video on YouTube which you can find here but instead if just normal nail varnishes I used a combination of gel and nail art pens. I have tried mixing them before but I didn’t get the right technique or combination and now I have I will definitely be using it more. This post is probably more about the combination of products used than the design but I will be doing future posts on my own designs and ideas, I just wanted to start with one I know works consistently.

I really like this look as it’s one that’s surprisingly easy when it comes to application and I’ve managed it even when my hands are fairly shaky with pretty good results. It’s amazing the difference adding the black outlines makes when it comes to that step. If you use gel and want to do nail art, even a different pattern, but it’s failed in the past it might be the best way to try it. This is done with a combination of Red Carpet Manicure gel nail varnishes and some Rio nail art pens I have had for years.
