Review: Dark Arts Tin Gift Set

The Dark Arts Tin gift set title image. Behind the text box is a photo of the products inside the tin

Yesterday I did a post on the Harry Potter Chest Gift Set, and today it’s the turn of the more evil side of the franchise with the Deathly Hallows Tin Gift Set. There’s a lot of products in this that are the same, or rather equivalent to, the ones in the other gift set. Originally this tin was £20 so in the sales at the moment it’s £10 and has a range of bath and body products in it.

The tin itself is a nice quality and has a dark design for Harry Potter fans, while inside there’s two sheet masks, a bath bomb, eye mask, makeup bag, nail varnishes and a sheet of nail art stickers with a Deathly Hallows theme.

Review: Harry Potter Trunk Gift Set

Harry Potter trunk title image. behind the text box is a photo of all of the products that come in the set

Anyone who knows me knows I love Harry Potter, I’m sat here in a jumper with a giant Harry face on at the moment, so when I saw the two gift sets in Boots in the half price offer I had to get them. I’ll do a review of the Deathly Hallows tin tomorrow so check back for that if you’re interested. There are some similar products in it, there’s only a few products that are completely different in them. I’ve been to Boots near me recently and these were both still in stock, they seemed to have quite a few of them.

The Harry Potter Trunk Gift Set has a range of products in it, some of them were available separately (and still could be in the sale) and others were part of a set, I’m not sure any of these products are available exclusively in this set, except the box itself. There’s bath essences, hand cream, sheet masks, a bath bomb, makeup bag and an eye mask so it’s all definitely bath and body related and could make a great few evenings of Harry Potter themed pampering.

Marks and Spencer’s Summer Beauty Box

marks-and-spencer-summer-beauty-box-5

I did have another post planned but as the Marks and Spencer’s Summer Beauty Box arrived in the post today I couldn’t wait to do a post on the products in it. Similar to their beauty advent calendar these boxes have a much higher value than this price, this one is around £135 of products they say on the site, but you have to spend £40 in Marks and Spencer’s to get it for the discounted price of £15. Since I wanted curtains from there anyway I just added this to the basket as it’s such a bargain and there are a few products in here I was planning on getting anyway.

There’s quite a good range of different products in the box. Some are full sized and others are travel sized or deluxe samples but they cover the spectrum of beauty pretty well. There’s a couple of makeup bits with mascara and liquid lipstick, some summer products like after sun and SPF lip balms and quite a few hair and body products. It’s actually pretty evenly spread out and a great way to try some of these brands as the full sized products of some would cost more than the box and any that aren’t full sized are still a decent sample size.

My Travel Makeup Bag: Short Summer Break

summertravelbagheader.jpg

I did a post like this a couple of years ago and have meant to do it since but they sort of fell below other posts and, since I’ve just come back from a couple of nights in Wales, I thought this was the perfect timing for an updated summer version. I really like reading these by other people, seeing what they choose to take and it gives me ideas in case I’ve forgotten something so I hope you guys like this post. It’s also interesting, to me anyway, when I was writing this to see how it compared to the same sort of things I was taking when I wrote the last one.

I have been known to take more than I need makeup wise, three palettes for two nights may be slightly over the top, so I tried to pack light and think I succeeded. As it’s summer time, or supposed to be, my makeup routine is quite different to a few months ago. The main difference is the foundation stage and this group of products has actually become my go to easy look for the past couple of weeks anyway so I guess it’s part my travel bag and part just my everyday look. I think I’ve actually reviewed most of these products so if I have I’ll try to link them.

What I Have in My Travel Makeup Bag

travelmakeup1

I did a post about the things I took in my makeup bag for travel over a year ago but I thought I’d do another after going away last week. Some of the things I didn’t use but it’s going to be the same things I’m taking away for family meetups and things in the lead up to Christmas so it seemed like a good time to post one anyway. I’m not normally too bad at packing light when it comes to makeup but I was surprised when I unpacked it all how much I took this time. I tend to go for taking only a few kinds of products but a range of colours in them.

I think that most of these things I’ve posted a review for so I’ll link it if I have so there’s a more in depth post on them and proper swatches if you’re interested in them. Almost everything is still available in stores, I think only the eyeliners might be hard to find but I haven’t found any that I like as much, I am on the lookout for a nice soft bronzey or gold colour if anyone has any suggestions though.

Travelling Light: the makeup I took on my weekend away

travelbag5

I will admit that I’m one of those people that isn’t great at packing light when it comes to makeup, which is weird when I do pretty well with everything else really. I normally end up with my makeup bag, a palette and then the little extras I keep in my bag. This time I decided I was going to try to get everything to fit into the small brush holder travel bag that came with my old EcoTools set and I managed it… almost. I did have the mini palette I keep in my bag and the lip butter that’s in there so I kind of cheated but I think I did pretty well anyway.
