I’ve been working on decluttering for the past couple of
months, I’ve actually been pretty good and my cupboards look so much tidier. I’ve
been sorting out my makeup recently and realised how much of the stuff I was
keeping is just not me at all, or at least not any more. I’ve actually counted
up how many things are in this declutter post and there’s fifty three pieces of
makeup or accessories that are going! I didn’t realise I had that much!
I did start this off with a little review of each of them,
but when you have fifty three to get through it would be so long, so instead I’m
just going to link to any that I’ve already reviewed on here and say why I’m
getting rid of them. I have to say there are a few that I never thought I’d declutter
but they’re so old that if I did decide to reach for them I don’t think they’d
do me any good. I have a new rule; if it smells like wax crayons, get rid of
Onto the decluttering….
Or maybe a better title would be ‘Why I Shouldn’t Keep Things Too Long.’ I’ve had a look through my collection and realised that some I used to love have gone beyond when they should be used, others are simply products I never really got on with but kept ‘just in case’ or free gift with purchases that I already had better versions of but kept anyway.
I’ve been working through my stash and using some of the ones that have fallen through the cracks or ones I haven’t used recently to decide which I’ll keep and which I’ll get rid of. At the end of the month there probably will be more joining these decluttered products but I wanted to do this as a separate post as otherwise that end of the month one will be way too long, plus these are ones I just don’t think I want to even try for the whole month before I get rid of them.
I didn’t realise until this week that hot weather can mess with the internet too! Ours has been playing up so this post was meant to go out on Wednesday but wouldn’t upload in over five hours! I’m crossing my fingers the cooler weather means it’ll work now.
Anyway, I think I’ve been pretty good when it comes to buying makeup recently, I haven’t bought too much and I’ve actually got rid of quite a few things. Next month’s things I used in August is going to have so many things I’ve decluttered in it. I may have ended up getting a bit more than I originally planned in this Boots haul but there’s quite a few essentials in there so I don’t feel too bad. Of course when I get more sun cream the sun disappears, though I think I forgot to photograph it it’s still sitting unopened from the beginning of the week.
I did have another post planned but as the Marks and Spencer’s Summer Beauty Box arrived in the post today I couldn’t wait to do a post on the products in it. Similar to their beauty advent calendar these boxes have a much higher value than this price, this one is around £135 of products they say on the site, but you have to spend £40 in Marks and Spencer’s to get it for the discounted price of £15. Since I wanted curtains from there anyway I just added this to the basket as it’s such a bargain and there are a few products in here I was planning on getting anyway.
There’s quite a good range of different products in the box. Some are full sized and others are travel sized or deluxe samples but they cover the spectrum of beauty pretty well. There’s a couple of makeup bits with mascara and liquid lipstick, some summer products like after sun and SPF lip balms and quite a few hair and body products. It’s actually pretty evenly spread out and a great way to try some of these brands as the full sized products of some would cost more than the box and any that aren’t full sized are still a decent sample size.
Last year I bought the Ciate Twelve Days of Christmas style calendar which had a range of mini versions of their makeup products. Three of them were these Liquid Velvet matte liquid lipsticks in the colours Oh Honey!, Delight and Pin Up. All three of them are in the permanent line and the full sized 6ml tubes are £17 each.
I have tried so many different formulas of matte liquid lipsticks I should probably stop buying them but I do love the look and some of the ones I have are favourites that I always go to when it comes to lip colour. Plus these colours are definitely very me they were some of the ones that I wanted to try when I chose to buy the set.
Last year, I think when they were first released, I bought three Sleek Makeup Matte Me Metallic liquid lipsticks in a set with the Distorted Dreams highlight in Boots on offer. Then I put them somewhere safe to review, so safe I couldn’t find them, until a couple of weeks ago when they resurfaced and I’ve been playing around with them. It’s a bit of a late review but the whole matte and metallic combination intrigued me and I hadn’t tried any before.
Since I got these the range has expanded but the three I have are still available, they’re Roman Copper, Volcanic and Rusted Rose. Matte Me Metallics cost £4.99 each for a 6ml tube and are part of the Matte Me range of liquid lipsticks. These three are available from Boots, Superdrug or the Sleek Makeup website at the same price.
When I was looking around the f2plus1 eBay store (beautyNetKorea’s eBay store) I found these lip tints, the colours are so pretty and I’ve heard good things about Korean lip tints so was curious. Having seen the Peripera Peri’s Ink in a couple of videos on YouTube I thought I’d give it a go and decided on the Ink Velvet Formula in Pure Peach (£5.57), which I’ve recently found out is a Spring/Summer colour from last year so it’s not a new shade but it looked the most subtle and I wanted to start out with something not too bold rather than jumping in the deep end.
I feel like I should warn you, if you get the chance to swatch this in a store, the colour you get in a swatch is nothing like how it looks on your lips. Or that’s what I found anyway. When it first arrived in the packaging it looked orange, and I don’t mean nice coral orange but real orange fruit orange, which was not what I thought I’d ordered. Swatching it didn’t get any better on my hand and left a bright orange stain. However, trying it on my lips I could see where they got the photos online from. I feel I should include one of those photos here, it’s the stock photo taken for the product so copyright belongs to the Peri company and whoever took it, not me.
Is anyone else having trouble with WordPress? I tried uploading this yesterday three times and I’ve had to email it to my iPad and use the app as it says it can’t connect securely. Anyway, after rearranging my room I finally have natural lighting on my desk for photos so hopefully the lighting is better. It’ll take a bit of getting used to so sorry if the lighting isn’t the best to start with.
Not long before Christmas I bought a few things in TK Maxx including this mini set of Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks Bright and Bold Set. It’s not available on their website any more but may be available in stores, however it is still up on the Look Fantastic website for £18 (I did think that the £40 price tag on the label would be a bit of a stretch to be honest given they’re mini versions).
The set has three different colours, all of them I’d say are bright and possibly statement lips though the one is a classic red. They’re matte colours and the shades are a mix of limited edition and permanent colours, I’ll label which are which in the review if you’re interested in trying them out. The colours are Beso (classic red), Lume (deep berry purple) and Viola (lilac) and cover a good range of brights for different looks.
Merry Christmas everyone!
I hope you’re having a good day and enjoying yourself whether you celebrate Christmas or not. As it’s the last day of the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent Calendar and the official first day of Christmas it’s the last day of Blogmas. Not that my Blogmas went as I was expecting, December has definitely been more hectic than I expected it to be so I didn’t do the same posts I was expecting. Today’s gift in the advent calendar is a makeup bag. It’s not one I can find on their website but as their makeup bags are £12 in general I’m going to stick with that as the value they’ve put in this one, not sure if it would be.
The first day of Christmas from my Twelve Days of Ciate London Calendar is a liquid lipstick. I love the look of this calendar in general and I’ve wanted to try the Ciate makeup after loving their nail varnishes for years so couldn’t resist it when it was on offer. The liquid lipstick is a Liquid Velvet Liquid Lipstick in the colour Oh Honey! The full sized version is £17 normally on their website (currently on sale for £13.60) and is part of the new nudes range. This mini size is 2ml to the 6.7ml of a standard one which means it has around £4 of product in it. These minis are always enough for me in liquid lipsticks anyway and I can see this one lasting well.
I thought I’d change the name of these, I don’t know why but I kind of prefer calling it blogmas than advent. I’ve wanted to start to include more blog like posts so this seemed like a good time to start it. Today was mainly spent recovering from the weekend and then waiting in hospital for an appointment so sorry this post is a bit later than I meant to!
I think today’s gift in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar is one f the ones that I was most looking forward to trying. It’s the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade Perla which is a pale or mid tone pinky nude, one of those my lips but better kind of colours for me. This year I’ve discovered liquid lipsticks after finding some that actually work for me and don’t leave my lips dry so I’m always up for trying a new company’s version of it. This is a travel size, the full size costs £16 and holds 3ml compared to this 1.5ml so it’s probably £8 worth in here but these travel size ones always last me ages, I am yet to actually finish a travel sized liquid lipstick.
It’s the second of the wax tarts today from the 12 Scents of Christmas set of wax tarts from Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy. It’s a set of their twelve Christmas scents in wax tarts, I’m just picking them out at random from the box, the box costs £15 for the 12. Today’s random pick is the Christmas Time wax tart and the first with bits in. I haven’t put it to melt yet, my wax tart burner is currently behind a pile of decorations in boxes so it’ll have to wait, but it’s a very strong Christmassy scent so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m not sure if I’ll leave the bits to float around in it or get them out, I’ll see. The throw from the last wax tart was great, it even went outside the fairly large room it was burning in, and this is a stronger scent when cold so I’m hoping it does as well too.
