I feel a bit like there have been quite a few hauls recently but it’s that time of year when I end up buying more. I promise there won’t be too many, I just wanted to get this one up as the advent calendar is still in stock (as I’m writing this) and a couple of the things are Halloween so I’m not sure how much longer they’ll be around.
I think Marks and Spencer may have made more advent calendars this year, they seem to be in stock for a while longer than normal, or maybe it’s just the sheer number of beauty advent calendars that are around so they have less competition but whatever the reason they were available online longer than in the past and, though they’re sold out online, I’m pretty sure they’re in most stores, the online stock checker lists them well into double figures for some. Value wise it is one of the best value for the price, at £35 and an estimated overall value of over £250 it’s a big saving, but you do have the slight snag of having to spend £35 on other things to get this great price. However, as it’s Marks and Spencer and they have such a range of companies they sell, it really isn’t hard to spend that. I only needed the one Stila set I bought for it to go over that. As I know some people don’t want spoilers I haven’t included any of the products that are in the beauty advent calendar. If you want to know more you can click the link as it has a list of the products on their and I might do a small post soon with my thoughts on the few that I’ve already used and which are cruelty free, vegan, etc. if anyone’s interested.
This time of year I always get that Spring Clean, time to declutter everything, feeling and this year I finally decided that it was time to admit that my jewellery and clothes were in dire need or a sort out. Quite a few of my clothes haven’t fitted me that well for the past year, since a fun side effect of the medication I’m on made me gain quite a bit of weight around my middle, and oddly my feet too, and changed my body shape. It’s a bit like learning how to dress myself and what suits me all over again, but that’s a topic for another post.
Anyway, I decided that I would try everything I own on and anything that doesn’t fit me but is still either new (I did a bit of an overhaul a week before I started the mads so haven’t worn some of it) or that I still loved got put in bags and is now stored under the bed in the spare room. It certainly feels better having a wardrobe full of clothes I can actually fit into rather than one bulging at the seems because it has two sizes of everything!
My jewellery was mainly a case of having things I’ve loved for years but not worn them as they aren’t the style I go for any more, though I forgot to photograph what I got rid of annoyingly. Makeup will probably become a few posts, I always love reading and watching decluttering things other people do so they’ll go up when I finish that.
Sorry the external links won’t work for this post, this is the fourth time I have tried to post it and it’s crashed my computer each time. I’ll try to add them tomorrow but I just want to get this post up tonight so it’ll be link free for now.
This month I have mainly been using new things, which is unusual as a lot of the time it seems like my monthly favourites are full of old things I have rediscovered. It’s another big mix of things though I think it’s mainly beauty and accessories and a couple of them probably won’t be surprises if you follow my blog given the reviews I’ve given them recently.
I don’t think there’s been much music that I’ve been listening to really this month, a bit mix of a lot of older albums I found on my old mp3 player that only works when it’s plugged in so it’s been quite a bit of 90s cheese you get at school discos and early 2000s pop punk. TV shows though I have been watching some new things for once, I loved the Night Manager, I thought that Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston were amazing in it and I really liked Tom Hollander too, he was a jerk but for some reason I liked him anyway. No spoilers so I won’t say any more. I also really loved the RSC Shakespeare Live thing that was on the BBC for the 400 year anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The ‘to be or not to be’ bit made me laugh and I just liked the range that was on there. I have ended up going back to some old favourites like Red Dwarf and NCIS but those two new ones stood out a lot.
I know I said I’d post the link to my Facebook page before but I hadn’t yet, I wanted there to be better pictures and more on there for people to see, but I thought I’d do that today as I’m hopefully going to have some things up for sale on the weekend. So you can go and find it by clicking here, I’ve not got the logo sorted yet but it will be up in the next couple of days. I hope you guys like it but any ways I can improve it would be appreciated too 🙂
Quite a few of my favourites this month are things I’ve used before but have started to use more again because of the change in my skin. I was taken off my medication and changed to a topical solution so it’s taking a while to settle down, if it does, and there’s a few products that give more coverage then I’ve used in the past. I am on the lookout for a good moisturiser with SPF my skin gets on with so of anyone has any suggestions, preferably SPF 20 or higher I’m going to be trying some in the near future.
I’ll put the few TV shows I’ve been loving as well, I seem to do this every month. I have seen the new X Files and I know its not far in but I do really like it, will be interesting to see where it goes. I watched quite a few if the old ones over the past ten years when they were on in the middle if the day and I didn’t have anything to do and I really liked then, I’m going to watch some of them again from the beginning I think. NCIS is always a favourite for me and I watch it with my parents, this season is still good though there have been some weaker episodes. It’s always a bit odd watching these so much later than in the USA, the Halloween episode was only a couple of weeks ago. We started watching this late as we recorded it on Sky+ which is why it’s in February rather than earlier. Also loved Vera and Midsomer Murders, a couple of good UK detective shows though Midsomer Murders must be running out of people to kill in those small villages!
This isn’t really much of a product review and it’s just a quick post as I found an email today from a few days ago from the company saying they’re closing and as I love these so much I thought I’d post about it now so you have a couple of days to get something if you want to before it’s gone for good. I may be making a last minute order too, there are a few I’ve wanted for a whole but not got so now seems like the perfect time.
Shottle Bop sells necklaces, and earrings if you want, with various things inside, most are themed around sci-fi, horror and similar things though there are some more traditional remedies (leeches anyone?) mixed in there.
I love the size of the bottles, they’re small enough that they work as necklaces without being too big and yet the labels are still readable and have an old apothecary feel to them to me. They’re roughly an inch tall (about 2.7cm when I measured them) and some include tiny things inside like ice cubes or kryptonite.
I will say that some definitely last better than others. The photo was taken when the top row was new, the two at the bottom were already over a year old and they look the same two years later. The Felix Felicis has become a lump of gold in the middle with some liquid around, about half empty but turns gold when shaken, and the polyjuice potion is a light blue though I think that was my fault as it was on my windowsill for a while. It has taken two years to get like that though and the others still look like they did in the picture, the flesh is a bit emptier but still nice and gooey.
I love these and hint they’re a great gift for someone who likes any of the themes, I’m planning on getting the zombie kit and leeches because I’ve wanted them for a while but thought I’d post this now as by the time I get them the store will be closed. I can’t wait to see what they do next as it says something about the labels being reused for something else and they’re one of the things I like the most about these, especially the little tag line thing below the product name.
The necklaces are £10 – £12 each depending on what’s in them and most of the earrings add more onto the price, you just choose in the drop down menu of whatever bottle you want and it says how much to add. There are so many colours available on a lot of the options and you can add glitter or choose to have it glow in UV if you want. There is also the option of a little spoon which I have never got but they do look cute and would go well with some of the remedies. You can find it all here at http://www.shottlebop.co.uk though they close on March 31st so you have to be quick! Wish I’d checked my spam box earlier as it somehow ended up in that, I’d have posted this sooner and probably a better review.
Totally unrelated but I’m trying out the iPad app now it’s been updated and I like it a lot more now, just not sure how to add the read more bit so I’ll have to edit this post later to add it.
On the weekend I went shopping in the McArthur Glen outlet shopping centre in South Wales, I always go when we go to visit my grandparents and normally end up buying more than I should. The past few years I’ve been buying things from the Fossil store there, I have a silver necklace that charms clip onto and a rose gold coloured bracelet that at the moment has one clock charm on it. I normally go in to see what they have as the offers are so good.
I ended up buying three charms, two silver and one rose gold, and a pair of earrings. The earrings weren’t something I was planning on getting as I haven’t seen any of theirs that I’ve wanted in their outlet store before but they just seemed so ‘me’ and I loved them as soon as I saw them. I’ve had a bit of a sort out of stud earrings recently and wanted to get some new ones to replace the cheap ones I’d got rid of so they weren’t too much of an impulse buy, at least that’s what I’m telling myself!
