#NOTD: Cute Pastel Unicorn Nails

cute-pastel-unicorn-nail-art-1

I had to take this with these shoes, they fit the nail colours too perfectly not to

This nail look isn’t exactly fresh but I had fun doing it so I wanted to share it with you guys, and I kind of love the final effect so will definitely be doing this more with other pigments too. I’ve had some sample sizes of loose eyeshadow pigments hanging around for year without getting any use so I thought I’d see if they worked for nail art, it’s not like I had anything to lose as I was probably going to get rid of them somehow.

I decided to go for a multicoloured pastel mix of colours for most of the nails with some added nail art with white, that was supposed to look like sparkle and stars but kind of failed, and a pearly unicorn on each of the thumbs. I’m happy with how this has turned out and think I’ll be going for the pastel multicoloured nails for a family wedding coming up, just worth knowing that they don’t necessarily last that long so I’ll be doing them a day or two before rather than a while in advance.

Blogmas Day 19!

I almost bought more advent calendars today. Yes I know it’s half way through, or rather nearly the end of, advent but they had the Mini Mani Month from Ciate in TK Maxx for £17! I resisted as I’m trying to reduce my nail varnish stash if anything but if you’re on the lookout for a quick way to have an instant nail varnish collection then see if you can find one near you. I think this year it’s 23 minis and a full sized nail varnish but they often have toppers like the nail caviar or glitter and you’re almost guaranteed at least one day where it’s accessories like nail files so it’s more like 20 mini nail varnishes and one full sized. I did manage to get a bargain Stila liquid lipstick set though so I’ll try and post a first impressions of that soon in case they sell out. They’re currently selling quite a bit of Stila in the one near me but this set was £7.99 instead of a (supposed) RRP of £40.

Anyway, onto today’s Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent calendar gift, and the Mini Mani Month is surprisingly on topic with this gift being another nail varnish. I do like nail varnishes but this Leighton Denny Star Dust is not one I’m that excited to get. It’s a holographic glitter to add to my collection of holographic glitters, I’m sure I have had at least ten of these in various gifts over the years, so it’ll probably be passed on to someone else. I can’t find this exact colour anywhere except eBay but the standard 12 ml bottles like this are £12 in most places so I’m going to guess at that being the value of this bottle.

Nail Art: Holographic Disco Balls

Is it just me or is it really hard to photograph holographic things? My mermaid nails finally gave up after nearly two weeks, or rather the nail art bits did, the gel would probably have carried on but I felt like a change so I decided to give these disco ball nails a go. Mermaid Gossip recently did a tutorial over on YouTube for holographic disco ball nails so I thought I’d give them a go. I decided to try them on an accent nail to start with as I didn’t really have the right nail art supplies and I am so glad I did as I really don’t have the patience for doing all.my nails like this.

I’ve wanted to try and perfect the ombre or gradient nails so decided to give them a go for the others, though holographic nail varnish is apparently not the best to use for that, and a bit of negative space nail art on my thumbs. I’m always worried my nails aren’t the best condition to try that so, as I don’t think this will be the longest lasting look as I can’t find my gel top coat so had to go with standard polishes, I thought now would be a good chance to give it a go and I’m actually happy with how it ended up.

Review: Color Club Holographic Gel Polish in Eternal Beauty

Over the past few years, since getting the first gel manicure set, I have been on the look out for gel nail varnishes that work as well as the Red Carpet Manicure ones. I should probably have given up by now but I saw the Color Club Halo Hues Holographic Polishes in the Rainbow Connection site and there was a site wide sale code at the time so I decided to go for one. I am a sucker for good holographic nails and Eternal Beauty has a gorgeous pale purple as the base colour.

I don’t know how easy Color Club are to get outside of the UK but I don’t know many places to stock it here, it seems to be an American company so maybe you guys in America will find it easier. On the Rainbow Connection website they have the holographic ones and the bottles are £16, though as they’re 15ml this isn’t a bad price for a gel colour.

Boxing Day Sale Haul: Rainbow Connection

I didn’t buy much from the Boxing Day sales but I did make an order from Rainbow Connection, a site that sells indie nail polishes and nail art supplies in the UK. Not all of it is here, a few of the stamper plates haven’t got here yet, but as most of it arrived I thought I’d do a post on it. I will be reviewing pretty much all of this at some point anyway so I’ll post the rest of the stamping plates then.

For the last few years I’ve been planning on trying nail stamping, it always looks so good when other people do it and I love how intricate the designs can be even if my hands are shaky. Most of my order was for this; a nail stamper set that was on offer, some plates, a couple of nail varnishes sold for stamping and then a few extras that caught my eye. I am yet to find a good gel nail varnish company that works for me apart from Red Carpet Manicure and I love holographic nails so I bought one of the Color Club gel nail varnishes as well as a couple of non gels that were in the destashing or old stock section from Organic Farm. I hadn’t heard of them before but apparently they’re from Korea and hard to get in the UK, so even if I love them I’m not sure how easily I could get more from them but these colours are so pretty.

Advent 2016: Day 12!

I’m very happy with today’s advent calendar presents, the Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar has a Look Good Feel Better Mini Powder Brush to add to my growing makeup brush collection. The Yankee Candle tea light today was Snowflake Cookie, a very sweet one but still one I use to sweeten others and the Ciate Mini Mani Month has a very sparkly Fortune Teller glitter top coat. I also think that the box for the Ciate one may be my favourites from the calendar, I just like the mini boxes in this year’s one and going to keep them for wrapping presents.

Review: Red Carpet Manicure Gel Nail Varnishes in Garnet, An Evening to Remember, Put a Slipper On It and A Matter of Prince-iple

RCMmarch1

On my recent visit to Sally’s I got four gel nail varnishes from Red Carpet Manicure. I’ve recently started to grow my gel varnishes collection as I’ve been using it more so I went for some that I didn’t think I had anything like or like ones I had in a normal nail varnish but wanted a gel version. Later in the post I have done a dupe for each of the three I have similar colours to but the one is definitely unique in my nail varnish collection.

Two of the gel varnishes are in the permanent range, as far as I know, being An Evening to Remember (516) and Garnet (276) from the more sparkly collection based on precious stones and these cost around £10 – £12 I think. The two from the Cinderella collection seem to be sold out pretty much everywhere but they were in the reductions area. They did have stickers saying they were £7.87 but when we got to the till it was ££2.86 so I doubt there are any left but if there are in one near you then they’re worth getting. The two I chose were A Matter of Prince-iple (293) and Put a Slipper On It (289) though I do wish I’d bought a few more.

I can’t link to any of them because I can’t seem to get the Sally’s website to work for me, maybe it’s my browser but it keeps saying there’s an error, this is the link for the website in general though so you can go and see what they have online if you search Red Carpet Manicure. Both Asos and Marks and Spencer also sell RCM things though so they might be a good place to look and compare prices for individual colours.
