Anyone who knows me knows I love Harry Potter, I’m sat here in a jumper with a giant Harry face on at the moment, so when I saw the two gift sets in Boots in the half price offer I had to get them. I’ll do a review of the Deathly Hallows tin tomorrow so check back for that if you’re interested. There are some similar products in it, there’s only a few products that are completely different in them. I’ve been to Boots near me recently and these were both still in stock, they seemed to have quite a few of them.
The Harry Potter Trunk Gift Set has a range of products in it, some of them were available separately (and still could be in the sale) and others were part of a set, I’m not sure any of these products are available exclusively in this set, except the box itself. There’s bath essences, hand cream, sheet masks, a bath bomb, makeup bag and an eye mask so it’s all definitely bath and body related and could make a great few evenings of Harry Potter themed pampering.
I guess most people do this, but I started this years Christmas preparations feeling very organised. I knew what I was getting people, I even started ordering things in September, but somehow I was still Christmas shopping today! How does this always happen? Next year I’m starting in June!
I’m always a fan of berry scents, I’m not sure why but there’s something comforting about them to me, so when I saw the Festive Sack of Berry Bon Bon Delightson the Body Shop website as early release online I had to try it. I tend to either miss out on limited edition Christmas scents from them because I don’t try them in time to know I like them or I order full sized and then they don’t agree with me for whatever reason. This sack of minis seems a bit expensive at £18 but if you bought these mini sizes separately they’d come to , so it’s actually a bit of a discount if you want to just see if you like them. Also it’s a cute sack and would be a great present for someone.
This set comes with four small sized products, they’re each the smallest size you can buy individually. It has a 50ml Body Butter, 50ml Sugar Body Scrub, 60ml Shower Gel and 30ml Hand Cream. As with everything from the Body Shop it’s all cruelty free. I think that’s a pretty nice range of products and the scent does actually change a bit depending on the base for the product.
I always forget to keep my empties, I start off the month meaning to keep them and then a few weeks in I’ve either forgotten to keep them or got fed up with the clutter and thrown them out. This month, or rather over a month now, I remembered so here’s a post of (almost) everything I used up in April and May so far. I say almost because I’m sure I’ve got rid of some empties just because I forgot.
I didn’t realise until I got them all together how many things I’d actually finished, or how many hand creams I’d had on the go at the same time. I always find that I go ages without finishing anything because they’re big bottle or pots and I’m part way through, but then everything finishes at once so if I did these regularly there would probably be months of a few products going each month and then a big lot like this.
It’s the first day of December and that means advent calendar time! I may have ended up with four when I saw a Lindt one on offer and couldn’t resist the chocolatey goodness. With these advent calendar posts I do mini reviews or first impressions for the things I get in the calendars on that day. I will be doing more in depth reviews on some of them in the future when I’ve had a chance to try them some more.
The first day of advent has the Neal’s Yard Bee Lovely Hand Cream in the Marks and Spencer calendar, a Ciate mini Geology nail varnish in Goal Digger from the Ciate Mini Mani Month and a tea light in Spiced Orange from my Yankee Candle one. At least I think it’s Spiced Orange, there are two red ones and nothing on the door to say which it is. I do have a scratch and sniff type card with the other one on it and this doesn’t smell like that. If I’m wrong I’ll come back and edit it when I find out.
I realise I don’t really do empties posts, that’s mainly because most months I either forget to take photos of my empties (I may have done that with a couple of things this month too) or I just don’t finish off enough product sin a month to be worth doing the post. Most of the products I buy tend to last a long time and they get finished in dribs and drabs but this month it ended up that I finished quite a few things in one go so thought I’d do one. I do like reading these from other people, seeing what people actually would repurchase sometimes helps me decide if it’s a product that I’ on the fence about.
I was planning on combining my monthly favourites with the empties post but it got so long I’m doing it in two, I think the monthly favourites will be on Monday. There are some things in this post that I forgot to photograph, I’m not used to doing these posts. Maybe in the future I’ll keep all my empties and just do them when I get enough to be worth posting rather than setting it as a monthly thing. Anyway, here’s what I finished off this month and whether I’d repurchase them in the future and why. There are a couple of sample products in here but most of them are full sized.
I realised, when working out what to include in this post, that I didn’t actually do one of these for June so this is going to be a bit of a two months in one. Also, it turns out that most things work on the new Windows 10 but edge does not like WordPress and my camera is not registering on there so this post is coming from my iPad including photos so may not be the best quality
I don’t know how many of you are in the UK and how many will have watched Robot Wars when it was first on, or on any of the repeats, but I love that show. As the new series has just started a lot of June and July I was watching the original series to get ready and I was surprised at how early I was watching it originally, it seems I started at series 2 with the original airing. So far I’m liking the new series though I do miss the rhymes from Craig Charles in the later series. Also some of my favourites aren’t in the new one but it was to be expected, I wonder how the original robots would have survived against the new ones. Continue reading →
I love hand creams, I seem to have about five or six of them most of the time, and am on a quest to find the perfect one. In the Boxing Day sales I bought a couple of Lush gift sets, this Love and Light Hand Cream was in one of them which is why it’s a smaller tub. You can find the Love and Light Hand Cream in Lush stores or in their online store for £7.95 for 100g or £13.95 for 220g.
They do a range of hand creams and I have found them fairly successful in the past, though they did discontinue my favourite Smitten a while ago. This one is fairly strongly scented, it has the scent of the Orange Blossom perfume and the other products in that range.
Sorry the external links won’t work for this post, this is the fourth time I have tried to post it and it’s crashed my computer each time. I’ll try to add them tomorrow but I just want to get this post up tonight so it’ll be link free for now.
This month I have mainly been using new things, which is unusual as a lot of the time it seems like my monthly favourites are full of old things I have rediscovered. It’s another big mix of things though I think it’s mainly beauty and accessories and a couple of them probably won’t be surprises if you follow my blog given the reviews I’ve given them recently.
I don’t think there’s been much music that I’ve been listening to really this month, a bit mix of a lot of older albums I found on my old mp3 player that only works when it’s plugged in so it’s been quite a bit of 90s cheese you get at school discos and early 2000s pop punk. TV shows though I have been watching some new things for once, I loved the Night Manager, I thought that Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston were amazing in it and I really liked Tom Hollander too, he was a jerk but for some reason I liked him anyway. No spoilers so I won’t say any more. I also really loved the RSC Shakespeare Live thing that was on the BBC for the 400 year anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The ‘to be or not to be’ bit made me laugh and I just liked the range that was on there. I have ended up going back to some old favourites like Red Dwarf and NCIS but those two new ones stood out a lot.
This is a product I got in my Marks and Spencer advent calendar and did a mini review thing in the post then but I love this so much and how much it has helped my dry skin in the winter weather that I felt it deserved its own proper review. I have used this product in the past, I think it was a few years ago now, and although I liked it then I didn’t repurchase it, I can’t remember why but I think it was just the sheer amount of hand products I had at the time and this kind of got lost in them. This time it hasn’t, despite me having eight different hand creams and a few cuticle oils or balms.
This Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream is from Burt’s Bees and comes in a small tin which is great for travel as I’ve not had a problem with it coming off when I don’t want it to. It’s lemon scented, as the name suggests, and the 15g tin costs around the £6 mark, it seems to vary from site to site so it’s worth looking around when you buy. On the Burt’s Bees website it’s £6.49, the Boots website has it at £5.99 and the Marks and Spencer site sells it for £6 but I’ve seen these in a lot of other places including smaller local stores so it’s definitely worth looking in physical stores especially ones that sell little gifts and candles.
