Marks and Spencer’s Advent Calendar and Christmas Haul

marks-and-spencer-christmas-haul-1.jpg

I feel a bit like there have been quite a few hauls recently but it’s that time of year when I end up buying more. I promise there won’t be too many, I just wanted to get this one up as the advent calendar is still in stock (as I’m writing this) and a couple of the things are Halloween so I’m not sure how much longer they’ll be around.

I think Marks and Spencer may have made more advent calendars this year, they seem to be in stock for a while longer than normal, or maybe it’s just the sheer number of beauty advent calendars that are around so they have less competition but whatever the reason they were available online longer than in the past and, though they’re sold out online, I’m pretty sure they’re in most stores, the online stock checker lists them well into double figures for some. Value wise it is one of the best value for the price, at £35 and an estimated overall value of over £250 it’s a big saving, but you do have the slight snag of having to spend £35 on other things to get this great price. However, as it’s Marks and Spencer and they have such a range of companies they sell, it really isn’t hard to spend that. I only needed the one Stila set I bought for it to go over that. As I know some people don’t want spoilers I haven’t included any of the products that are in the beauty advent calendar. If you want to know more you can click the link as it has a list of the products on their and I might do a small post soon with my thoughts on the few that I’ve already used and which are cruelty free, vegan, etc. if anyone’s interested.

Review: Lush Ectoplasm Jelly Bomb

I’ve only just realised how close we are to Halloween and I still hadn’t tried a couple of the Lush Halloween limited edition products so I had my first ever Lush Jelly Bomb bath with the Ectoplasm Jelly Bomb (£4.95) which was interesting and didn’t turn out quite as I expected it to.

The Jelly Bombs are a recent product type for Lush, I think it’s only been a few months since the first ones were released, and they claim to give you a jelly layer in the bath bomb alongside the normal fizzing. This version is limited edition for Halloween and is a mix of a sort of pastel neon yellow and a pastel purple with a ghost on the front, which I think is rather cute. They’re very crumbly in the outside so need to be wrapped in something if you want to keep any as they do leave a trail of bath bomb dust everywhere they sit.

Review: Lush Monsters’ Ball Bath Bomb

As the weather’s getting cooler it’s getting to be bath time of year, at least for me, so last month I stocked up on some bits from the Lush Halloween collection. The Monsters’ Ball Bath Bomb (£4.50) is a new shape for an old favourite scent. I say old favourite, it’s fairly recent compared to some but it does come back every year in some shape since it’s first release. It has the Day of the Dead, or Calacas, scent and seems to have an eye that’s a more moisturising solid bath oil formula. I like the fact it has something different and when they mix product types into one product and they do look cute with their one giant eye.

This is a fair sized bath bomb, which could be broken in two, and actually has a fairly obvious seem which used to mean they were easy to break, but it seems to be hard and may be more of a smash up and use the dust job rather than get two clean halves. As it does have layers it may mean you lose the effect if the pink and the blue swirling around but as they blend to become a deep purple in the end I don’t think it’ll make that much difference.

Lush Halloween 2017

lush-halloween-2017-header

This year Lush seem to have released quite a range for Halloween, especially considering that not that long ago there were years where it was pretty last minute and they even hinted at not releasing any Halloween themed products. I only got four, and one of these seems to be in the Christmas range for some reason but it definitely feels more Halloween to me.

I decided to go for four things, to be honest the rest didn’t really appeal to me but I do like the fact that they’ve done a black lip product to go into the makeup side of the holiday. I only wish I’d managed to get one of the Ghost shower gels when they were in the kitchen and crossing my fingers they release it again as that’s one of my favourite Lush scents and definitely something Halloween themed. If you have a favourite Halloween product from the past, Calacas scented things always seem popular, then it’s worth checking out the kitchen section in the lead up to Halloween.

Book Review: Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie

halloweenpartyheader.jpg

I don’t know why but in the past when I’ve tried to read Agatha Christie books I haven’t got on with then, despite loving the TV and movie adaptations I’d seen, or maybe because of them. However, I started reading some of the ones my parents have last summer and have loved reading them so I thought I’d try one of the ones I know better from TV now that the weather has improved and is better for sitting outside reading.

Hallowe’en Party is a Poirot story, I think he’s probably the most well known of Agatha Christie’s characters though I don’t know how well known her books are outside of the UK. It also has another recurring main character from the Poirot series in Ariadne Oliver, a crime novelist who comes up with unlikely answers to solve the crimes and is pretty much the opposite of the quiet, methodical Poirot when it comes to questioning. The book revolves around the murder of a young girl at a Halloween party whete Ariadne is a guest and so she brings Poirot in.

Yankee Candle Halloween and a Couple of Extras

yankeehalloween1

It’s nearly autumn, at least all of the autumn ranges are being released (and Yankee Candle had a 30% off offer), so it’s time for my annual Yankee Candle order for a couple of the Halloween scents. I do sometimes buy things in between, normally the wax melts or tea lights, but I always buy a Witches’ Brew and normally something from the Halloween accessories range. I also got a Fruit Salad large jar candle, it’s the only size available in it, which is apparently always available in the US but only a special release in the UK so if you’re in the UK then get it quickly as these ones often disappear without any warning.

I’ve only had them for a day but I have burned them all to see how they smell when they’re lit, though I don’t tend to find there’s that much difference in scent cool to warm when it comes to Yankee candles in the actual jars, some of the wax melts change but not the actual candles that I’ve had.

Review: Sugar and Vice Halloween Bunting and Acorn Necklaces

Happy Halloween! I haven’t really done much today Halloweenish apart from watching an old Hammer Horror movie and apple bobbing. We had some trick or treaters and I may have eaten some of the sweets that they didn’t take. Have you guys had Halloween plans and done anything fun tonight? Or are you going to if you’re in America and it’s still the afternoon.

sugarandvice2

This is only a fairly short post but I wanted to review these while the one necklace is still on the site. I’m not sure how much longer the Halloween range will be up but it’s still there now. I’ve bought some necklaces from Sugar and Vice in the past and really like the style and the quality is really good. They’re laser cut acrylic shapes which are then used in different types of jewellery, I’ve just tended to stick with necklaces as I prefer smaller earrings and I just wear a greater range of necklaces though I do love some of the bracelets so I might get one of them next.

A Halloween Countdown Box and Eleven Advent Calendars

halloweencountdown2

A bit of a different post today, I thought as all the advent calendars are coming out I’d do a bit of a post on them. Also yesterday I got something in the post that I’ll probably be posting about as I open them so thought I’d do a bit of a post about that too. The advent calendar I went with eleven purely because I meant to do ten but then added one which isn’t really beauty because I might be getting it. A couple of the companies are bringing out more than one but I’ll stick with eleven in the title anyway.

These images I found for some of the advent calendars are definitely spoilers so if you don’t want to be spoiled then I’d stop reading at the end of the advent bit. Though they are just the images used to sell the products in most of them so if you were to buy them online you’d see the same pictures. I personally like to see what I’m getting so like these spoilers but I know others don’t so a bit of a warning.

ME, Myself and I: Halloween

halloween2

I love autumn, the colours and the weather but I think my favourite thing is probably Halloween. When I was little it wasn’t really a bit thing in the UK and not many people went trick or treating where I live, though we did have small parties with friends with apple bobbing and things like that instead. It seems like it’s got a lot more popular the past few years with decorations and I see lots on Facebook about people having parties and my YouTube subscription page gets full of makeup tutorials. I always want to try them but I have nowhere to go with them, maybe this year I’ll try to do one anyway and see how it turns out.

Recent Purchases: Lush

lushhalloweenchristmas

I made an order on Monday from the Lush website after seeing the Halloween and Christmas products were online. Other than the recent Oxford Street products I tried I haven’t actually bought from Lush since last December, I always get drawn in by the Halloween and Christmas products and it’s the same this year. A few of the things I got are in the permanent line so I’ll mark which are from which collection as they disappear from shops at different times. This is sort of a first impressions post as I’m planning on doing proper reviews or comparisons for the new versions of older products that I’ve bought.

The Halloween and Christmas collections were released on October 2nd and the Halloween ones will probably end up being out of stock before Halloween going by past experience. There are sometimes products that hang around for a while, I think the Calacas scented soap was around in February in some shops, but I have found that some go out of stock in the lead up to Halloween and Lush haven’t restocked them if it’s close to the date. The Christmas ones are around until Christmas though I think these also may go out of stock if it’s within a few days of Christmas as they try not to produce too much so they don’t have to have much in sales afterwards. If they say out of stock now though both of these collections are likely to be back in stock, the Nightwing jelly went out of stock which made me delay my order until it was back as it was one of the things I wanted the most.
