I’ve always meant to do empties posts, I just tend to find
that I go for ages without having any and then within a week everything I use
regularly is finished. I love reading or watching them when other people do
them as it shows what you actually use and like rather than a review of
something you’ve been using for a few weeks or days.
As I’ve been organising my wardrobe, I’m only part way at
the moment, I’ve ended up getting all the random stuff that got thrown into
this basket I got for empties so now it can finally be used as I wanted it to
be. I didn’t plan on it being overflowing before I did my first post though! I’ll
try to keep them shorter, maybe after every ten empties, I didn’t realise how
much was in there until I emptied it earlier! As there are so many I’ll try to
keep them short and I’ll link to any I’ve done reviews on so you can see more about
Read more to see how much I actually finished this month…
In the Funko Pop advent calendar today I added one of the twins to the Weasley clan, I do like how the family is building up. The Holland and Barrett beauty advent calendar is helping increase my essential oils with a base product to add them to. I feel like I need to do some research into this, find out the best combinations, but until then I’ll have fun playing around!
How are we over half way to Christmas in advent? I started wrapping presents today and may have got a bit carried away with it. I always think that Instagram worthy presents look amazing but it would be a waste to buy all the ribbons and things, but then I remembered all of the ribbons I have from various Lush gifts over the years and now my floor may be a mess of ribbons, paper and tape. Also, would it be too much to add spare mini baubles? Asking for a friend 😉
The first of the two catch up advent calendar posts for today, Day 9 will go up later, though I might do three so I’m fully caught up as I have a few normal blog posts I want to put up soon too as they’re gift set reviews and I have no idea how long some of the things will be in stock for.
It always feels like Christmas really starts when we see family, though recently it’s been before we’ve decorated so it’s even more of a thing, but this year it’s definitely intensified the Christmassy feeling I had before. I love getting together with people you don’t see very often and just catching up with everything that’s happened. The presents and decorations are nice, and they’re definitely the more exciting parts of Christmas in some ways, but it’s this sort of thing that really feels like Christmas. And yes I know that sounds cheesy and possibly like a made for TV movie but oh well!
Today’s advent calendar goodies are good again, I feel like I say that every time, with some more hair care from the Holland and Barrett 25 Days of Cleaner Beauty and another teacher, who happens to be one of my favourite characters in the Harry Potter universe, in the Funko Pop advent calendar. We’re still away so no tea today but I’ll be catching up with that when I get back!
I am so annoyed at the moment, somehow the posts I had prepared for this weekend and scheduled haven’t posted. Unless you’ve already seen this, then sorry for the double post and I guess it’s not showing up on my blog my end. It said at the time my scheduled post was published but I can’t see it on my blog. I’ll do 2 a day to catch up.
This weekend is the start of family visits for Christmas so I’ll be in North Wales for a big family meal. It seems to end up that we only really see each other once a year, or most of us anyway, so it’s nice to catch up and have a meal out together. There’s always Christmas crackers, there will probably be at least one of those fortune telling fish and the hopping frog, and I have a proper Christmas dress this year, it even has Santa on it!
As we’re away (and I feel like I’m cheating with the advent calendar and opening these few days early) I’m not going to be drinking the teas till we get back, I’ll have to do a couple in each of the posts then. However I am looking forward to thing the first haircare product from the Holland and Barrett beauty advent calendar and I have a mini Draco Malfoy to go with Snape to start on the Slytherins in the Harry Potter Fubko Pop advent calendar.
This year I planned on getting a couple of advent calendars, one was going to be the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent calendar, the other was probably going to be the cheapest of the three Body Shop ones. However, I managed to write down the wrong date for the M&S one so missed out on it and the Body Shop one was sold out by the time I had the room in my budget so I’ve been having a look around at some and actually will have four within my budget for two (I have one on the way which I will link to at the end as well). I did plan on getting the NYX one too, which may sneak into a basket if it goes on offer but I don’t really need the extra makeup even if the colours do look gorgeous!
I think this year will be the biggest variety in advent calendars I have ever had, it pretty much covers most of the things I like and they aren’t even really linked in any way. The first is from Funko Pop and is one I found by accident and had to get when I saw it was in stock, the second is a beauty advent calendar that was better than half price and has some amazing products in but it’s not one I’ve seen any posts on in advent calendar round ups, and the final one I have with me is full of tea! The fourth is Christmas decorations for the tree and I just love the style of them, plus I did originally decide to get it before I found any of the others and I just wanted an advent calendar.
I don’t often review hair products, I tend to stick with ones I know and as my hair takes pretty much anything I throw at it it’s rare for a product to make a huge difference to it. However the Josh Wood Radiant Shine Hair Treatment Oil, which has been sat in my cupboard for ages after I first tried it and meant to go back to it but forgot about it, seems to have helped with certain hair problems I have now I’ve given it a proper try.
This bottle is from the Marks and Spencer’s Advent Calendar in 2016, that shows how long it’s been sat in the cupboard, and is a 30ml bottle which isn’t full sized. The full sized version is 48 ml and used to cost £12.50 in Marks and Spencer’s. I’ll leave that link in even though it says it’s out of stock in case it appears back again. Otherwise you can find it on amazon and eBay. I don’t normally post reviews of products that are discontinued but it’s still fairly easy to find and I can’t find anywhere that says it’s actually been completely discontinued, though I’m assuming it is as it says ‘no longer available’. It’s a pity but I wanted to share the review anyway as it’s helped my hair and it might be worth trying if you have similar problems.
I wish I’d taken more photos, I’m still not that good at remembering to do that when out and about, as the shopping area was so nicely arranged, which sounds like an odd thing to say but not having aisles crammed in and there actually being space in all the shops was really nice. Add in the odd sky on Monday due to the storm in Ireland and the UK and I bet the lake would have looked great in them. With the five hours free parking and range of shops there I definitely recommend Rushden Lakes to anyone local as a place to spend an afternoon wandering and shopping. Though it does seem like most locals already know about it, I seem to have been slow on finding this.
Anyway, onto the shops themselves. Though I didn’t get what I originally planned to as there weren’t any of the long tops or tshirts that I liked in my size I did end up getting a few things. In the end I got things from Primark, Marks and Spencer, Holland and Barrett, Flying Tiger (a new favourite shop) and Boots, though it was fun wandering around the rest and I was very restrained when it came to the large beauty section in House of Fraser, I don’t think I’ve seen so much Urban Decay in person before!
The latest Fortune Cookie Soap Soap Box arrived on the weekend so, after trying everything out, today’s post is a mini review, first impressions type post for each of the upcoming Autumn scents. Fortune Cookie Soap are an American company that make bath and body products and their signature products it, unsurprisingly, a fortune cookie shaped soap. They release seasonal collections four times a year and these Soap Boxes are full of sample sizes of the upcoming scents in a range of products alongside two full sized products. Calling them sample sizes seems a bit mean considering the amount you get, they’re great travel sized minis and even the body butters can do more than one use if you’re careful with them.
As well as the seasonal collections often having the theme of the season, they also have a second theme. This time the theme is the movie Mean Girls which, I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen in a while so some of the references may go over my head. I was surprised at how many I actually got but fans of the movie will probably recognise everything. I do love how they use in jokes as well as the more well known references when it comes to these themes.
As this is the Autumn (Fall if you’re American) collection it isn’t actually available yet, the release date is August 18th at 6PM CST, I think that’s around midnight here in the UK. It’s worth either staying up late if you want something or waiting a bit as they often restock things a couple of weeks later and things sell out so fast.
For the past few years I’ve had my hair blonde, though mainly through lighteners rather than actual dye, and the recent heat wave in the UK and all the sun naturally turned my sort of ashy blonde hair to a very light, skin out white, blonde without me doing anything. I recently found the Pro-Voke Liquid Blonde Colour Activating Treatment Shampoo and Intense Shine Conditioner in Tesco so thought I’d give them a go. I haven’t seen these around before, they said they were new on the shelf too, and as I was planning on using dye to make my hair less of a white blonde and a more golden tone I thought this would be worth a try. I loved their purple based toner for white and platinum blonde hair when I had it before, definitely recommend that if you want to get rid of any brassiness in your hair, so I had high hopes for these too.
These bottles are larger than the intense versions of the purple toner I’d used before but the same size as their everyday ones at 200ml. They cost £5.50 each which isn’t too bad for a shampoo or conditioner, especially as going from past experience with their other products a little goes a long way with them so they do last better than some cheaper shampoos I’ve used.
Soap and Glory recently released a dry shampoo, The Rushower, which is available in two different sizes. The smaller travel size, which is 50ml, costs £2.50, with the larger 200ml spray costing £4. Being a fan of Soap and Glory and always on the look out for a good dry shampoo I had to try it. At the time only the smaller size was available but I actually quite like this size, it’s perfect for throwing in a handbag or for travel.
The dry shampoo has the original pink scent, it has a bright citrus and slightly floral scent to me. It’s definitely very perfumey and it reminds me a lot of the Lsuh Snowshowers family of products, that’s a buck’s fizz type scent, for some reason. This dry shampoo has scent release technology that means there are particles that contain scent and the friction from running your hand through your hair is supposed to release the scent, meaning you get the scent a while after you’ve sprayed your hair making it smell fresher for longer. That’s the idea anyway so I was intrigued to see if that would actually work.
