Blogmas Days 15 to 17: 3 days in 1!

A photo of homemade truffles behind the Blogmas title frameThis weekend was more exhausting than I thought and I was still catching up from the weekend before energy wise during the week so I wants as prepared and that means a bumper Blogmas blog post with three days worth of advent goodies in one! It was a great weekend visiting family and it was great catching up and seeing people from the other side of the family than last week but two weekends in a row and all that travelling really drained me. I’ll try to be more organised for the rest of Blogmas.

In the Holland and Barrett beauty advent calendar there were three very different gifts. One is something I’ve been needing to get to replace an old one, another is something that I’m looking forward to trying and the third is probably the first flop for me from this calendar so it’ll be passed on. The Harry Potter Funko Pop advent calendar had two figures in that are characters that already appeared in the advent calendar. I can get why Harry, Ron and Hermione would have duplicate figures but I’d still rather have some extras like Bellatrix or something.

Blogmas 2018: Day 11!

An image of a lit up white branch with baubles hanging from it, on the right is a narwhal decoration hanging off the branchI felt so organised last week getting all the posts ready and scheduling them and then they didn’t post! At least we’re caught up now and I have a couple of gift set posts I want to do coming up so there will be two posts a few days. I always feel a bit like I’m cheating on the advent calendar when I do these posts in advance, I open them each day and it’s a bit of a treat but then I open three at once to take photos! Do you guys do advent calendars a day at a time or in chunks, or just open them all at once?

Today is the first of the duplicate characters with another Harry Potter, though he is pretty different to the first I would prefer it if they’d thrown in a few others that I know aren’t in here, I won’t spoil it by says who I’d have added yet. But the Holland and Barrett 25 Days of Cleaner Beaut Calendar was great, I’m a huge fan of Dr Organic products, so is my skin, and it’s something from a range I’ve never tried before.

Review: Beauty Bits Australia Compressed Face Masks

I’ve seen compressed face masks around for a while and not really known what they were so, when I saw these Compressed Face Masks from Beauty Bits Australia in TK Maxx a couple of months ago, I had to give them a try. They’re small, compressed face masks that you add liquid to so they grow and expand and become full sized sheet masks. With the amount of excess mask formula you end up with in sheet masks this seemed like the perfect way of using that up.

They had two varieties, one with the plain white sheet masks and this Assorted one which has a mix of charcoal infused black sheet masks along with the plain ones. This jar had ten of the charcoal infused ones and fifteen of the plain white sheet masks to make up the twenty five in the pack. These are no longer available in TK Maxx but I bought them for £9.99, at least that’s what the sticker says but I seem to remember it being less than that. There are a lot of companies doing these though so there might be a company that’s easier to find near you and this post might be helpful on deciding if you want to try them.

A Bit of a Haul from Rushden Lakes

I wish I’d taken more photos, I’m still not that good at remembering to do that when out and about, as the shopping area was so nicely arranged, which sounds like an odd thing to say but not having aisles crammed in and there actually being space in all the shops was really nice. Add in the odd sky on Monday due to the storm in Ireland and the UK and I bet the lake would have looked great in them. With the five hours free parking and range of shops there I definitely recommend Rushden Lakes to anyone local as a place to spend an afternoon wandering and shopping. Though it does seem like most locals already know about it, I seem to have been slow on finding this.

Anyway, onto the shops themselves. Though I didn’t get what I originally planned to as there weren’t any of the long tops or tshirts that I liked in my size I did end up getting a few things. In the end I got things from Primark, Marks and Spencer, Holland and Barrett, Flying Tiger (a new favourite shop) and Boots, though it was fun wandering around the rest and I was very restrained when it came to the large beauty section in House of Fraser, I don’t think I’ve seen so much Urban Decay in person before!

Review:  Dr. Organic Tea Tree Deep Pore Charcoal Mask

My skin is definitely acne prone and I’ve been using the Black Magic face wash from One Hand Washes the Other for years but the customs charges I always get hit with make it so much more expensive so I’ve been on the lookout for a replacement that’s easy to access in the UK and this Dr Organic Tea Tree Deep Pore Charcoal Mask might be the closest I’ve found yet.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while you might be aware that I am a fan of the Dr Organic range, or at least a fair amount of their products, as they often seem to work for my skin and hair plus, as a brand, they’re cruelty free and use a lot of natural ingredients. This particular mask, or face wash as I’ve also been using it for, is also vegan friendly. As far as I’m aware Dr Organic is exclusive to Holland and Barrett’s here in the UK and this mask is part of the skin clear range which includes a face wash and moisturiser. It costs £6.99 for the 100ml tube and can be found online or in some of their stores.

Recent Empties

mayemptiesheader.jpgI always forget to keep my empties, I start off the month meaning to keep them and then a few weeks in I’ve either forgotten to keep them or got fed up with the clutter and thrown them out. This month, or rather over a month now, I remembered so here’s a post of (almost) everything I used up in April and May so far. I say almost because I’m sure I’ve got rid of some empties just because I forgot.

I didn’t realise until I got them all together how many things I’d actually finished, or how many hand creams I’d had on the go at the same time. I always find that I go ages without finishing anything because they’re big bottle or pots and I’m part way through, but then everything finishes at once so if I did these regularly there would probably be months of a few products going each month and then a big lot like this.

Review: Dr Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum

arganhairserumheader.jpg

I’ve had this hair serum for a while and it’s become one of my everyday hair products. I originally got it in the boxing day one penny sale on the Holland and Barrett website which is essentially buy one get one free but you buy one product in the offer and get another for 1p. This came as part of a set with a shampoo and conditioner and was the 1p item I chose, though I did get the set mainly for this one product. This hair serum is available as a product on its own and costs £14.99 for the 100ml bottle, the same size as this one, so I’d recommend getting it by itself unless you can get the set in a similar sale to the one I did.

Dr Organic is a cruelty free company that makes skin care and hair care products and is sold exclusively at Holland and Barrett, in the UK anyway. This Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum is supposed to reduce frizz, soften, restore and nourish hair and is used after washing your hair and towel drying it so it protects your hair as it dries. It can also be used on dry hair, just not as much, to protect your hair and reduce frizz, though I haven’t tried it yet.

Review: Dr Organic Deodorant in Vitamin E and Dead Sea Minerals

drorganicdeodorantheader.gif

I have been on the lookout for a good cruelty free roll on deodorant or anti perspirant that is easily available in the UK, which seems to have been harder than I thought. For some reason I just don’t get on with creams,or rather not skin doesn’t, and there’s only so many times I’m willing to try them.

In a recent Holland and Barrett online window shopping trip I saw a couple of the Dr Organic deodorants in my recommended products and given how much I’ve liked their products in the past j thought I’d give them a go. At the time they were in a buy one get one half price offer but normally cost £5.79, some still are in the buy one get one half price offer as well. They have a large range of scents available, I think even more than in their standard product range, at least as many. These range from very feminine scents, like the rose one, to more unisex scents and I think the Dead Sea Minerals one definitely fits into that category. The other scent I chose was the Vitamin E deodorant, which is somewhere in the middle and could be a unisex scent though it has some floral hints to it.

Recent Purchases: Holland and Barrett

hollandandbarrett1

Before this year I didn’t really buy anything in Holland and Barrett, but after finding the Dr Organic Snail gel range I’ve ended up trying other things from there more. I did a small order, mainly to replace the Dr Organic things but I saw some other bits I wanted to try, I did manage to forget the face masks I originally meant to order as they have some really nice sounding ones on there.

Apart from the two Dr Organic things I haven’t tried any of these before and I haven’t actually heard of any of them before doing the search on the Holland and Barrett site. A while ago I did a pot about travel sickness and someone recommended the ginger sweets from Holland and Barrett so I got a pack of them, the chewy ones as they were the cheapest and said they’re for travel sickness. I also thought I’d give some of the hair care products as I’ve always had a flaky scalp and will always try a new thing for that as most of the others don’t seem to work at all. The couple of beauty products are ones I’ve never heard of seen before but I was intrigued by the one and am trying to find a good foundation. It’s a bit of a mix of everything in here.

March Favourites: A Bit of Everything

march2016-1

I almost thought I’d skip the monthly favourites this month but when I actually thought back over what I’ve used this month I realised there are a few products that I really liked, there’s nothing actually makeup in here and I think I managed to avoid posting anything in a previous monthly favourites but quite a few of these have been things I’ve reviews in the past on this blog. If I have then I’m going to link to the full review post if you want to read more.

There were a couple of other favourites, things I’ve been watching or listening to this month that I normally include in this bit. There weren’t many things I could think of that’s new and I did want to include a Cadbury crème Egg but I may have ended up eating all twelve in the box that I bought last month, they did last longer than I thought they would though. I know I put them in my monthly favourites this time last year but they’re just so good I had to put them again. If you haven’t had them they’re basically a small Cadbury chocolate egg with a very sweet white goo in the middle and a yellow bit that looks like a yolk, they’re sweet and sticky and it’s very hard to just eat one of them.
