First Impressions: Limited Edition Smashbox Cosmic Party Kit

It’s November so it’s OK to talk about Christmas now right? I’ve started on the Christmas shopping and all the gifts are appearing in stores. I’m not sure if this is going to be a thing that comes out every year but last Christmas I bought a Smashbox set that’s sort of a taster set with a mix of travel sizes and full sizes of some of their best selling products and a full size Cover Shot palette. This year it’s the Cosmic Party Kit and cost £30 but contains over £90 worth of products. It says limited edition and I think it’s a limited number available rather than meaning just limited to Christmas.

I love sets like this that contain full sized products so you can tell exactly what it would be worth and you basically get some of the products for free. In this one a Cover Shot palette would cost £25 so if that’s the product you’re most interested in you get the rest for £5. The Cover Shot palette this time is the Major Metals one so it’s all metallic. The other products included are full sized Full Exposure Mascara, Always On Gel Liner in Fishnet (black) and Gloss Angeles Lip Gloss in 72 & Honey alongside a travel sized tube of their Photo Finish Primer.

Review: Smashbox Cover Shot Bold Eyeshadow Palette

Smashbox Cover Shot Bold eyeshadow palette title image. Behind the text box is a photo of the palette opened

Maybe it’s just me, but every summer I always plan on being a bit more adventurous with my eye makeup and trying bright colours. I also always realise that I don’t actually have one palette that has brights in, they’re sort of all over the place, and I just don’t have some colours.

I know that a lot of people wouldn’t do this, but I do end up looking on eBay for makeup if I just want to try something new when it comes to colours or looks. I found the Smashbox Cover Shot Bright Colours Palette for £3.50, pretty much like new, and actually won it. As with all Cover Shot palettes it’s a pocket sized palette with eight eyeshadows in it, six smaller ones along the bottom and two larger ones at the top. I loved the Ablaze palette I got in a set last year so wanted to see if the others in the range are as good as there seem to be mixed reviews depending on the palette.

Review: Smashbox Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette in Ablaze

The title image with the Smashbox Cover Shot Palette in Ablaze open to show the eyeshadowsIt’s unusual for me doing two reviews in a row from the same company but I’ve been trying out the Smashbox Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette in Ablaze and I wanted to share what I thought as I’m really enjoying it. I recently got a set from Boots that had this in but this costs £24 individually and contains eight eyeshadows. In the Ablaze palette these are all reds and oranges with a couple of more everyday colours mixed in to make it more usable on its own.

It’s on the small side for a palette, it fits perfectly in the palm of my hand, which makes it great for travel, and I’ve always found the lenticular print on the front of the Cover Shots nice looking. I think I’ve just loved this style of graphic since I was little. It has two larger pans, one matte and one shimmer, and six smaller pans, two matte and four shimmer though one of the shimmers is more a matte base with shimmer in it, and they’re definitely all warm colours.

Smashbox Superstars Limited Edition Gift Set First Impressions

This wasn’t going to be my original post for today, but as it says this set is limited edition and it seems to be out of stock online already I wanted to put this up so you might be able to find it in a Boots near you. This is a sort of first impressions or look at what’s inside the Smashbox Superstars Box that’s on sale in Boots for £30 and has £88.50 worth of products in it. I have to admit I was sceptical about whether it was truly worth that much but I’ve put the links to each of them individually and it does add up.

Smashbox is one of those brands that seems expensive, or more expensive than I’d often spend on the products I’ve been interested in trying from them. However, they seem to get such good reviews they were one of the brands I put on my to try list this year so when I saw this set I had to get it. It’s supposed to contain some of their best selling products, with a Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette in Ablaze, Light Photo Finish Primer, Photo Finish Primer Water, SuperFan Mascara and their Contour Shadow Brush. I do have a weakness for brushes and have wanted to try one of theirs for a while but £20 for one brush was a bit out of what I spend on them, maybe this one will convert me.
