A Book Haul that Kind of Grew: Waterstones and eBay

Books laid out on a white wooden floor. In front is the text box with the post title in it

I have recently had a clear out of some of my books, I was planning on keeping my collection down until I have more room for bookshelves. Apparently that didn’t last long though, at least not when I end up in Waterstones! One of these books has been in my to buy list since it was first published in hardback though so that’s ok to get right?

I did also end up getting a couple of lots of manga from eBay. I have a few manga series that I’m part way through that I started ages ago, if you’re into manga or anime you will realise how long ago this was when you see which ones they are, and I found people selling them in sets on eBay for a decent price. Buying the few individual ones for one of the series could get expensive but I do want to finish them as they are some of my favourite manga and anime series of all time.

This way for the books

Goals for 2018 Update Post

A post shared by Rhiannon (@thoughtfulpigeon) on //www.instagram.com/embed.jsHey everyone, I can’t believe we’re already nearly half way through March! I said I’d do a quarterly update for my goals so this is a little late but I think it’s interesting to see how people are doing with their goals so hopefully you like reading about mine. I have to admit that some of them have definitely been more successful than others, though I don’t think I’ve done too badly overall and I’m definitely keeping to the same goals for the rest of the year.

For me goals are something to aim for but I tend to find that keeping them flexible is the best. Things in life change all the time so why not goals too? Sometimes it’s good to move the goalposts and give yourself a bit of extra time, as long as it’s not something that would have a negative impact on yourself or others, and the opposite can help too. I often find I work best to a deadline which has meant late nights finishing coursework but making little goals and deadlines in life for myself seems to have a similar effect.

I Can’t Get Rid of Books

bookdeclutterheader.gif

I was planning on doing a decluttering post for my books, I’ve been going through them and sorting out which to keep and I realised I don’t get rid of books, though I probably should for quite a few of them. I have managed to get a few that I’m either selling, passing on to people I know will like them or keeping for the next charity shop run.

For some reason I just find it hard to get of books. I also seem to buy more than I read and get rid of. Last year I made a list of books I wanted to read though I didn’t get through most of them. This year I decided to go through and get rid of the ones I don’t think I’ll be reading again and make a pile of ones I haven’t read but I’m not that likely to keep beyond that.

I Think I May Have Too Many Books

toread1.jpg

Well, maybe it’s not possible to have too many books, I guess I should say I have too many books I haven’t actually read yet. And my collection seems to just keep growing. I thought maybe one way of limiting myself would be to take photos and list all of the books I own that I haven’t read that I want to in 2016. I will also have this list printed out so I can actually cross them off as I read them but I don’t have the commitment to find this post every time and edit it to ross them out so this list will have to do.

I have a bad feeling that if I continue my plan of a book a week (which failed this week as I had things to do on the weekend that took all my energy so I’m drained at the moment) then I will still have some of these left over at the end of the year. I haven’t actually counted or listed the books yet as I write this so we’ll see.

Book Review: Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth

callthemidwife1Title: Call the Midwife

Author: Jennifer Worth

Year written: 2002

Publisher and year: Phoenix, 2012

ISBN Number: 978-0-7538-2787-1

I don’t normally read books about true stories, I read the odd biography or autobiography but not that often. The main reason I picked this book up was because of the TV series, I loved the series and thought I’d see what the books it was based on were like as often books have more detail and I can get more into the characters. The main part of the book is 319 pages long with an additional 21 for the appendix, glossary and some references.

callthemidwife2This copy of Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth is the copy published in 2012 and uses images from the TV show. I probably would have preferred to get one of the other versions of the cover but I bought it cheap from the Works and this was the one on offer. Despite the fact this is different than the rest in the series of books because of this it still ties in with the colours and effects chosen for the photo of the cast.

Books! And my new challenge, kind of.

This is just a very short post and not the normal ME, Myself and I because my head hurts and the ear drops I have been given by the doctor haven’t kicked in yet so any time on the computer is not really likely to happen. It just felt weird not posting anything at all so I thought I would do this post today even though it was originally scheduled for tomorrow (I can sometimes be organised with these).

This might sound like a bit of an odd thing to have in this blog since it’s sort of ended up being mainly beauty with a side of ME and a tiny amount of game reviews but I’ve decided I’m going to start posting book reviews. They may not be all that often as I’m not sure how well I’ll be sticking to the challenge I have set myself but I will be trying. When I originally started the blog I was planning on it being probably only 25% beauty but it kind of took over when I started posting about it and finding new things to try and the community of beauty bloggers is so amazing I sort of ended up staying here. Hopefully people will still like my blog with these added in and they won’t replace my normal blogging days, it’ll probably be Tuesday or Thursday I end up doing it but I’ll see when I finish books and which days work best with the other posts when I get going with this.

Sunday Afternoon and OOTD (kind of)

fete6

I don’t get out that much due to my ME but today was the village fete and as it is literally three minutes’ walk from my home I thought it’d be nice to go to get out a bit and we go most years to support the local community. The weather today was perfect for a village fete day, the sun was shining so it was warm but there was just enough breeze to stop it from getting too hot and I managed to wander around for half an hour which was more than I thought I’d manage. I forgot to take photos of any of the stalls, I meant to but there were quite a few people there and I ended up just wandering and looking at things.
