I did originally plan to do an update every three months but my last one was in March so you can see how well that went! I can’t believe how quickly 2018 has gone, so much seems to have happened but in so little time. Having got a notification saying I’ve just had my 4 year anniversary I thought I’d look back at the goals I set way back in January and see how I’m doing.
I tend to see goals as something to aim for, but still keep them flexible. I’ve found that if I’m too rigid with these things it’s easy to get discouraged and give up. Things change, life gets in the way, making realistic goals helps me to stick to them and I love that feeling when you achieve something. It’s like that feeling of crossing off things on a list. I think I just like lists in general.
I realise I have been a bit quieter in the world of blogging recently and so I thought I’d do a post that sort of explains that (at least one of the reasons for it) and may actually be a little bit useful for someone out there… maybe. I have been trying to find a job, which may sound like a bit of a lame excuse but it’s taking so much energy that it’s pretty much taking a lot of my online time away from the blogosphere (if I’m using that right).
Also I should probably say that I am in no way qualified when it comes to job searching. I just wanted to share some things I’ve found useful and thought it could be a good way to start a discussion that might help some people. I always get paranoid and feel like I have to include these disclaimers!
I feel like I should start by saying sorry for not posting as often recently. I will admit that the huge dip in views since actually paying for this blog was a bit discouraging, going from nearly 300 a day every day to under 100 a day did not feel good, but you guys are awesome and I’ve loved the fact that I’m actually getting more comments than ever, so many more, and I’m actually having conversations. That probably sounds odd but definitely more important to me than the whole numbers thing. I feel like I should apologise for being a bit awol on here but I do have reasons and within the next few weeks it’ll all be back to normal, I promise.
For me goals are something to aim for but I tend to find that keeping them flexible is the best. Things in life change all the time so why not goals too? Sometimes it’s good to move the goalposts and give yourself a bit of extra time, as long as it’s not something that would have a negative impact on yourself or others, and the opposite can help too. I often find I work best to a deadline which has meant late nights finishing coursework but making little goals and deadlines in life for myself seems to have a similar effect.

I guess I’ve kind of had it for the past few days really but I wanted to do a post on here so if you want to follow me over there it’ll have all my blog, Instagram and Facebook updates in one place!
I am so far behind on starting this but I thought, with working on the look of the blog, it was the perfect time to actually start one. Hope to see some of you guys over there.

I’m now on Facebook too! (I love being able to add that!)
I feel like I’m a few steps behind with this, it’s something I’ve considered before but it seemed a lot of hassle. However, partly thanks to the fact WordPress now refuses to work on any of my internet browsers, I feel like it’s time to take the step, or at least seriously consider it and start taking the steps towards it. One big problem is, I’m not actually sure where to start with this!
I know a lot of you guys might already be self hosting your blogs so I thought I’d ask and see what you recommend. I’d like to be able to transfer everything over, I’m half tempted just to change to a premium account with WordPress to keep it all simple, and I know that’s a big pain. I also know that if I’m properly concentrating on my blog now it makes sense considering how little money it costs per month, or it can anyway, and how much of a difference it can apparently make when it comes to be taken seriously in the eyes of companies.
I don’t tend to do New Years resolutions, there’s only so many times I can put learn to drive or get healthier before it feels a bit redundant really, but I do love setting goals. I don’t just do this at the beginning of the year, for me goals are something that I keep updating and altering. If something isn’t achievable then I alter it a bit so it is, or also if something is too easy I might up the goal a bit and see if I can achieve that.
Some of these goals are pretty short term and they’re all pretty all over the place. I guess I find it easiest to write goals when I have a mix of vague and long term and precise or short term goals. The combination means I have different things to focus on and some sort of become passive goals or background noise that just happen when I get into the habit of doing them.
I feel I should start this post with a bit of an apology for the lack of posts the past week. I planned on doing daily posts for the Twelve Days of Christmas Ciate Calendar but it felt a bit forced and they’d be so short but I’m going to be doing them on my Instagram for the rest of the twelve days if you’re interested and then a final post on everything as a round up. Christmas always takes up more energy than I think it will so there’s been a lot of resting and a trip out to the Lush sales, the haul will be coming soon.
Everyone seems to be looking back at the highlights of 2017 and it got me thinking about the year. I have to say it definitely wasn’t the best year, a couple of the things that happened weren’t great at the time but did have positive longer term effects and I think I’ve ended 2017 more motivated than I started the year. I think that probably happens for everyone every year so maybe it’s me remembering differently.
So let’s begin the look back at 2017. I feel like there should be some wobbly effect on the screen and some kind of music like in TV series saying that.
Today was the first snow of this winter and we made the most of it! Our dog is nearly 14 and really shouldn’t get too excited but ended up running around like a puppy and I managed to make a snowman. I’ll be paying for it the next few days but totally worth it. We might be getting some more in the night but it’s probably just going to freeze so I’m crossing my fingers the road outside our house isn’t too bad as they never salt it and I have an appointment tomorrow I have to get to. Have you guys had any snow, either today or just this winter so far? Are you ever too old to make snowmen?
Onto the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar’s gift for today and it’s a small tube of Formula Innovate Radiance Reveal Peel which seems to be part of the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty range. It’s cruelty free and has the leaping bunny logo on it. This means that so far this year we’ve had more skin care than anything but this is a different kind of product and I’m intrigued by what it will do. It’s a 15ml tube and with the full sized one being 50ml and costing £17.50 I think it should be worth somewhere around £5. It’s definitely a fairly good sized sample so I’m looking forward to trying it and there’s quite a few uses from it.
I feel like I’ve been away more this past month than I have the whole year leading up to it! Last weekend I went to Edinburgh with my parents to visit my sister and visited my first Christmas Market, or Winter Market on the day it opened and had an open top bus tour. As Edinburgh is where JK Rowling was living when she wrote Harry Potter there’s a lot of buildings and places around that are supposed to have inspired her so we visited the supposed inspiration for Diagonal Alley (and I Mya have bought some things) as well as the grave of Tom Riddel, possibly the inspiration for Tom Riddle or Voldemort, and the cafe she wrote in.
I’ve always thought the hop on, hop off type open top bus tours seem a great way to visit a city. They are a bit expensive but you get to see the sites as well as get on and off it as many times as you want in 24 hours with a tour guide or recorded guide. It’s definitely a tourist thing to do but they go every twenty minutes so you’ll easily get one.
