Review: Josh Wood Radiant Shine Hair Treatment Oil

josh-wood-hair-oil-2.jpg

I don’t often review hair products, I tend to stick with ones I know and as my hair takes pretty much anything I throw at it it’s rare for a product to make a huge difference to it. However the Josh Wood Radiant Shine Hair Treatment Oil, which has been sat in my cupboard for ages after I first tried it and meant to go back to it but forgot about it, seems to have helped with certain hair problems I have now I’ve given it a proper try.

This bottle is from the Marks and Spencer’s Advent Calendar in 2016, that shows how long it’s been sat in the cupboard, and is a 30ml bottle which isn’t full sized. The full sized version is 48 ml and used to cost £12.50 in Marks and Spencer’s. I’ll leave that link in even though it says it’s out of stock in case it appears back again. Otherwise you can find it on amazon and eBay. I don’t normally post reviews of products that are discontinued but it’s still fairly easy to find and I can’t find anywhere that says it’s actually been completely discontinued, though I’m assuming it is as it says ‘no longer available’. It’s a pity but I wanted to share the review anyway as it’s helped my hair and it might be worth trying if you have similar problems.

It’s Christmas! Blogmas Day 25 and the First Day of Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope you’re having a good day and enjoying yourself whether you celebrate Christmas or not. As it’s the last day of the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent Calendar and the official first day of Christmas it’s the last day of Blogmas. Not that my Blogmas went as I was expecting, December has definitely been more hectic than I expected it to be so I didn’t do the same posts I was expecting. Today’s gift in the advent calendar is a makeup bag. It’s not one I can find on their website but as their makeup bags are £12 in general I’m going to stick with that as the value they’ve put in this one, not sure if it would be.

The first day of Christmas from my Twelve Days of Ciate London Calendar is a liquid lipstick. I love the look of this calendar in general and I’ve wanted to try the Ciate makeup after loving their nail varnishes for years so couldn’t resist it when it was on offer. The liquid lipstick is a Liquid Velvet Liquid Lipstick in the colour Oh Honey! The full sized version is £17 normally on their website (currently on sale for £13.60) and is part of the new nudes range. This mini size is 2ml to the 6.7ml of a standard one which means it has around £4 of product in it. These minis are always enough for me in liquid lipsticks anyway and I can see this one lasting well.

Blogmas Day 24: Advent and Christmas Eve Traditions

It’s the second to last day of the Marks and Spencer’s advent calendar, though I know a lot of advent calendars end today and they always did when I was growing up. When does advent actually end? I always thought the 24th but so many include the 25th now too. Anyway, today’s gift is the Pur Illuminate and Glow Primer, the second primer in three days so I kind of wish they’d spread the two out a bit more. It’s a corrective primer that has some shimmer in it to give a glowy look for a base. The full sized tube is 30ml and £24 so this 10ml tube contains £8 of product. It has a bit of a peachy bronze look to me and definitely has shimmer in so I’m not sure how much I’ll use it as primer.

The second thing from an advent calendar, well kind of, is the Forest Walk Wax Tart from the Scented Seasons Shop Twelve Scents of Christmas set I bought and have been picking them out at random as a kind of home done advent calendar. The set was £15 for twelve wax tarts or they can be bought individually for £1.25 each where you pick your scents.

I can’t believe it’s Christmas Eve already! We have some things we do on Christmas Eve every year, they’ve become traditions as well as some of them being practical. Things like getting food bits ready or watching certain movies, I love these things that become traditions and are different for each family and don’t necessarily have anything too Christmassy about them.

Blogmas Day 23: Lush Tree D Bath Oil Review and Advent

Todays post may turn out to be a bit shorter than normal as neither of the parts is as long as I thought they’d be. I originally planned on doing a whole post to review the Lush Tree D Bath Oil but I really couldn’t think of enough to say about it. It’s definitely disappointing so I wanted to get this post up before the sales start as it might be one people are tempted by. I’ll go into more detail in the post if you want the full review but the short version is it just isn’t worth the money. Unless I have a dud but the ones I’ve seen in store seemed the same.

The second part is more positive and it’s the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent Calendar gift for today; the Formula Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream from Marks and Spencer’s Beauty. I haven’t really tried this one out properly, it’s a night cream and it’s today’s gift so no chance really, but also apparently I got this exact tube last year. It’s a 15ml tube as the mini and a full sized jar 50ml costs £22 so this tube is worth £6.60 I think. I will try it tonight and put my first impressions (or is that second given I did that last year too) in this post anyway.

Blogmas Day 22: Advent and Finally Organising My Makeup Storage

I’m never sure whether to class makeup primers as makeup or skin care, it’s sort of the step between the two, but it seems like this primer is also a moisturiser which is great if you have dry skin. The Autograph Hydrating Confidence Boost Primer is today’s gift from the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar so now you pretty much have the whole routine for pre makeup prep in mini sizes from this calendar. The full sized 30ml tube is £12.50 meaning this 15ml mini one is worth £6.75, so sort of mid range when it comes to price, and it’s cruelty free and vegan and vegetarian friendly.

It’s been a bit of a long project, or rather it’s been an on and off project, since I got the drawers for in my wardrobe to store my beauty things but it’s finally finished and I have my makeup drawer all organised. I’ve been thinking of doing a bit of a post on what I have and how I store it but not sure if anyone would be interested. It’s definitely not a big collection, it all fits in the one drawer, after my various destashing sessions throughout the year and probably half of it is eyeshadow palettes so not a huge variety in there either. Would anyone be interested in that?

Blogmas Day 21: Advent and Christmas Nails

Today’s Blogmas is half advent and half Nails. I meant to do more posts like this throughout December but it’s been more hectic than I expected and it’s only just now I’ve got the energy and time to do more than a quick review! Today’s advent gift from the Marks and Spencer’s beauty calendar is a Rose Otto Face Oil from Balance Me, a company I’ve heard of but never had anything from. The full sized version is 30ml and comes in a glass bottle with a dropper for £32 so this 10ml roll on version is worth around £11. As with any skin care to get a proper idea of how it works you need to use it longer term than one day but I’ll give my first impressions anyway.

The Wax Tart today in the Twelve Scents of Christmas gift set (£15) from Seasonal Scents Shop is the Spiced Orange scent, a standard for Christmas and one of my favourites. I love how waxy tarts can be mix and match to make cocktails of scent but you do need a wax burner for them. They’re available a lot of places for pretty cheap so it’s not hard to find if you feel like trying them.

I do love nail art, I just haven’t really done as much of it this year as I have for various reasons but I felt like going with a snowflake theme as it had snowed earlier in the week when I did them. I also know I like this look as I did it last year but nothing wrong wit going back to a design you love, I do it all the time.

Review: Pixi LipLift Max in Honey Sheen (Blogmas Day 20)

I use the Pixi Glow Tonic every day in my skincare routine but I haven’t really tried their makeup range yet so I’m happy that today’s gift in the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent Calendar is one of their lip glosses. It’s the LipLift Max in the shade Honey Sheen, it’s a peachy gold, maybe rose gold but more peach, with shimmer including some bits which look almost holographic in the light. It’s a plumping lip gloss so the cover is sheer and it should plump your lips as well as make them glossy looking.

This tube is 1g but seems like pretty much a mini version of the full sized one with the doe foot applicator. This is available in a full sized tube of 2.7g for £12 in three different colours. They’re all sheer glosses so I think it’s just the colour of the shimmer that makes them different really. As I’ve been using this gloss today this is probably going to be a bit more of a review than some of the others as it’s an I stand impact kind of product rather than one that needs to be used long term for the effects.

Blogmas Day 19!

I almost bought more advent calendars today. Yes I know it’s half way through, or rather nearly the end of, advent but they had the Mini Mani Month from Ciate in TK Maxx for £17! I resisted as I’m trying to reduce my nail varnish stash if anything but if you’re on the lookout for a quick way to have an instant nail varnish collection then see if you can find one near you. I think this year it’s 23 minis and a full sized nail varnish but they often have toppers like the nail caviar or glitter and you’re almost guaranteed at least one day where it’s accessories like nail files so it’s more like 20 mini nail varnishes and one full sized. I did manage to get a bargain Stila liquid lipstick set though so I’ll try and post a first impressions of that soon in case they sell out. They’re currently selling quite a bit of Stila in the one near me but this set was £7.99 instead of a (supposed) RRP of £40.

Anyway, onto today’s Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent calendar gift, and the Mini Mani Month is surprisingly on topic with this gift being another nail varnish. I do like nail varnishes but this Leighton Denny Star Dust is not one I’m that excited to get. It’s a holographic glitter to add to my collection of holographic glitters, I’m sure I have had at least ten of these in various gifts over the years, so it’ll probably be passed on to someone else. I can’t find this exact colour anywhere except eBay but the standard 12 ml bottles like this are £12 in most places so I’m going to guess at that being the value of this bottle.

Blogmas Day 18!

Today’s advent calendar present in the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent Calendar may be more skin care but it’s one of the products I’m actually excited to try. It’s not for your face, it’s the Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion which claims to help smooth and naturally exfoliate your skin in a lotion. To be honest until now I’ve never heard of this company but having read up a bit on the product itself I am definitely going to be giving this one a proper go and maybe getting the full sized version to keep it going properly. Another positive for this product is that Ameliorate don’t test on animals, which seems rare with a lot of these more scientific seeming skin care products, or the ones I’ve found anyway.

This is the 50ml tube of Transforming Body Lotion, which is available in both 100ml (£14.50) or 200ml (£22.50) so this is a mini trial version. It says to see the effects you have to apply it twice a day for four weeks and then once a day afterwards. I can see this lasting a couple of weeks if I try it on my legs but not the full four so I’ll see how well it does and maybe get the full sized bone to give it a proper go. It’s supposed to resurface your skin using lactic acid which encourages the skin’s natural process for removing dead skin cells. It’ll be interesting to see if it works as my skin could definitely do with some help in that.

Blogmas Day 17!

Day 17 of the advent calendar and yet more skin care in the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent Calendar. I’m going to keep everything from this in a box and sort them into groups when this advent calendar is finished so I can compare how much there is in each category. So far skin care is probably way in the lead and I’m surprised at how little makeup there is for a beauty advent calendar.

Today’s gift is from Ren and is the Keep Young and Beautiful Instant Firming Beauty Shot. When I first opened it I was expecting some kind of firming face mask but it seems like it’s a serum style product that you apply between cleansing and moisturising and has an oil like feel to it. This tube is 10ml and the full sized one costs £36 for the 30ml so this is worth around £12 but I can see it lasting a long time given that the instructions say use two or three drops each use. Ren as a company are cruelty free, though owned by Unilever, and this particular product is suitable for both vegans and vegetarians as well.
