I feel I should start this post with a bit of an apology for the lack of posts the past week. I planned on doing daily posts for the Twelve Days of Christmas Ciate Calendar but it felt a bit forced and they’d be so short but I’m going to be doing them on my Instagram for the rest of the twelve days if you’re interested and then a final post on everything as a round up. Christmas always takes up more energy than I think it will so there’s been a lot of resting and a trip out to the Lush sales, the haul will be coming soon.
Everyone seems to be looking back at the highlights of 2017 and it got me thinking about the year. I have to say it definitely wasn’t the best year, a couple of the things that happened weren’t great at the time but did have positive longer term effects and I think I’ve ended 2017 more motivated than I started the year. I think that probably happens for everyone every year so maybe it’s me remembering differently.
So let’s begin the look back at 2017. I feel like there should be some wobbly effect on the screen and some kind of music like in TV series saying that.
I almost bought more advent calendars today. Yes I know it’s half way through, or rather nearly the end of, advent but they had the Mini Mani Month from Ciate in TK Maxx for £17! I resisted as I’m trying to reduce my nail varnish stash if anything but if you’re on the lookout for a quick way to have an instant nail varnish collection then see if you can find one near you. I think this year it’s 23 minis and a full sized nail varnish but they often have toppers like the nail caviar or glitter and you’re almost guaranteed at least one day where it’s accessories like nail files so it’s more like 20 mini nail varnishes and one full sized. I did manage to get a bargain Stila liquid lipstick set though so I’ll try and post a first impressions of that soon in case they sell out. They’re currently selling quite a bit of Stila in the one near me but this set was £7.99 instead of a (supposed) RRP of £40.
Anyway, onto today’s Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent calendar gift, and the Mini Mani Month is surprisingly on topic with this gift being another nail varnish. I do like nail varnishes but this Leighton Denny Star Dust is not one I’m that excited to get. It’s a holographic glitter to add to my collection of holographic glitters, I’m sure I have had at least ten of these in various gifts over the years, so it’ll probably be passed on to someone else. I can’t find this exact colour anywhere except eBay but the standard 12 ml bottles like this are £12 in most places so I’m going to guess at that being the value of this bottle.
Day twelve and we’re nearly half way through the Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar. Today’s product was the Alpha H Liquid Gold Rose limited edition version, another skin care product but this is an exfoliating toner like a more concentrated version of a the Pixi Glow Tonic, from what I can find about it anyway. I did have the standard version of this last year in the Marks and Spencer’s advent calendar and tried it so it it’ll be interesting to see how this Rose version compares.
This bottle is 50ml, which is half the size of the regular sized product. The full sized on costs £37 so this mini bottle would be worth £18.50. I do like this style product, I get on well with the liquid exfoliates, but I know that the ones including acids can cause reactions for a lot of people. Although we’ve had a lot of skin care I quite like that, having looked at all of the things, including this means you have almost a complete skin care routine, the only thing missing is the cleanser.
Today’s been another busy day so another late Blogmas post tonight, though maybe it’s a better time for some of you as it seems to be getting more views on my later posts. The Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar gift for today is another staple of beauty gift sets year round in a bottle of nail varnish, I think this is the first of two in this advent calendar. This is a full sized Nails Inc One Coat Gel Finish nail polish in the colour Molten Star. It’s a warm coppery gold that looks like it has tiny holographic shimmer particles in it but I can’t actually find it for sale in any store online so maybe it’s an exclusive. If you do want it though there are a few people listing them on eBay for £5 to £10. The range in general is £13 for this 10ml bottle and it’s a nice colour for all year round so will be interesting to see how good this one is.
Pink Pomegranate is one of those scents that I’ve never heard of before this Christmas but it seems like maybe it’s a standard Christmas scent. Have any of you guys heard of it? Maybe I’ve just missed it every year. These wax tarts, the ones I’ve tried so far, have a good throw and last pretty well. They’ve been burnt for 6 hours and still smelling pretty strong cold when I took them out of the burner. This is from the Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy. It’s not technically an advent calendar, it’s a set of all twelve Christmas scents they do, but I’m picking them out at random every other day so it kind of is.
Today’s gift in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar is a travel sized version of the Eyeko Black Magic Mascara. I can’t remember if I’ve tried this one before, I know the liquid eyeliner pen was in last year’s and I liked that, it seemed good quality so I’m happy to have more from them, even if I do already have so many black mascaras. The full sized tube is 8ml for £19, this tube is 4ml so it’s got about £9.50 of product and these travel sized mascaras always last ages for me. I’ve tended to find that I end up throwing them out because the time is up on keeping mascara or they’ve dried out rather than running out of product.
I can’t believe it’s a week into December, or over a week in, and we haven’t got our Christmas tree up yet. I’m not opening one of the wax tarts today because I still haven’t burnt the one from a couple of days ago so it’ll be tomorrow for the next one. I’ll probably end up having three or four of them nearer to Christmas. I think this is going to be the latest post for blogmas, sorry it’s so late! A mix of poor internet and trying to get things done I was going to do yesterday alongside today’s things to do meant everything didn’t go to plan today! Also, wow WordPress on the iPad has changed, this may take ting used to. I may have accidentally pressed publish before I’d finished this post just now, oops!
I thought I’d change the name of these, I don’t know why but I kind of prefer calling it blogmas than advent. I’ve wanted to start to include more blog like posts so this seemed like a good time to start it. Today was mainly spent recovering from the weekend and then waiting in hospital for an appointment so sorry this post is a bit later than I meant to!
I think today’s gift in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar is one f the ones that I was most looking forward to trying. It’s the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade Perla which is a pale or mid tone pinky nude, one of those my lips but better kind of colours for me. This year I’ve discovered liquid lipsticks after finding some that actually work for me and don’t leave my lips dry so I’m always up for trying a new company’s version of it. This is a travel size, the full size costs £16 and holds 3ml compared to this 1.5ml so it’s probably £8 worth in here but these travel size ones always last me ages, I am yet to actually finish a travel sized liquid lipstick.
It’s the second of the wax tarts today from the 12 Scents of Christmas set of wax tarts from Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy. It’s a set of their twelve Christmas scents in wax tarts, I’m just picking them out at random from the box, the box costs £15 for the 12. Today’s random pick is the Christmas Time wax tart and the first with bits in. I haven’t put it to melt yet, my wax tart burner is currently behind a pile of decorations in boxes so it’ll have to wait, but it’s a very strong Christmassy scent so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m not sure if I’ll leave the bits to float around in it or get them out, I’ll see. The throw from the last wax tart was great, it even went outside the fairly large room it was burning in, and this is a stronger scent when cold so I’m hoping it does as well too.
Today’s gift in the Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar is the Gatineau Melatogenine Advanced Rejuvenating Cream and is a 15 ml sample tube which is a decent size for a face moisturiser. I normally find this is more than enough to get an idea of what it’ll be like. This one had probiotics in it and is definitely at the high end of the skin care products price wise at £86 for a full sized 50ml pot, it means this small sample is probably worth around £28! Definitely one of those brands that is outside my budget but that I love to find in these kinds of sets as I wouldn’t buy them myself.
The fourth day of advent and I’m adding in the second of my advent calendars, not that it’s meant to be but I bought a Twelve Scents of Christmas set of wax tarts from an Etsy store so thought I’d open one every other day in the lead up to Christmas. They didn’t arrive until just as we were leaving on Friday but I’ll include them in my advent from now on. I do love having some Christmas scents and went for these rather than the Yankee advent calendar I normally go for. It’s the 12 Scents of Christmas natural wax melts box and costs £15 on the Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy. I’m just picking them out at random and the first is Mulled Wine.
Day three and the third tube. It does feel like these early ones could be travel products that it’s sort of giving you for if you go away over the holiday period. Maybe it’s just me but given the face mask, body shimmer and now a shower product it’s like it’s either for a weekend away or for preparing for a night out, an office party or a family get together. I’m probably giving it too much thought, it’s just a nice idea that they might have done it deliberately as a kit for a night out.
Anyway, the product itself is the Nuxe Prodigieux Huile de Douche, basically a fancy way of saying shower gel. The literal translation is shower oil but maybe that’s just me being overly literal and it’s the phrase used in France. I have to admit that, seeing shower oil in the name, I was expecting something more of an oil like an oil cleanser but scented and for your body. However, it’s a shower gel that lathers and is in the same scent as the other Pogidieux products, if I’m reading the website right. It also has a golden shimmer to it so it sort of goes well with the Rosie for Autograph body shimmer cream we got on the first day.
Laboratoires Filorga Paris is one of those makes I’ve only really had in advent calendars, I think probably the previous Marks and Spencer’s ones I’ve bought. Outside of that though I don’t think I’ve ever read anything about them in blogs either, maybe I’ve missed them but I don think they’re a very popular brand. Looking at the price, this face mask in a full sized 50ml tub is £40, they’re definitely on the higher end of the skincare price range but they do seem to have some scientific background, a company I’d look into a bit more.
The product in today’s box is the Meso-Mask which claims to be a smoothing radiance mask and, looking on the M&S website, its for use on your face, neck and décolletage. If you want to use it on that whole area then I don’t see this 15ml tube managing it but I’m interested to see how it works. If you’ve been following my blog you may know my love of a good face mask, though admittedly none of them have this price tag on them.
The first day of December so the first day of advent. I do love advent calendars, we’ve had them since we were little with chocolate ones, and this year my main advent calendar is the Marks and Spencer’s one. I say main as I do have a Thornton’s chocolate one and a couple of twelve days of Christmas ones, I’m probably going to actually do the one on the twelve days though so I’ll have at least one post every day in December, this may be a first for me!
Anyway, onto the gift from today’s box, I do love it when advent calendars do these individual boxes, I have used them a few times for wrapping up Christmas presents that are small enough and they are great at disguising oddly shaped presents too. The gift today is from the Rosie for Autograph collection, so it is an exclusive product to Marks and Spencer’s, and it’s the Amazing Radiance Body Glow (50ml tube). It’s not the full sized tube but it’s a good size for travel and it’s a shimmery body lotion that has a golden tint to it.
