Merry Christmas everyone!
I hope you’re having a good day and enjoying yourself whether you celebrate Christmas or not. As it’s the last day of the Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent Calendar and the official first day of Christmas it’s the last day of Blogmas. Not that my Blogmas went as I was expecting, December has definitely been more hectic than I expected it to be so I didn’t do the same posts I was expecting. Today’s gift in the advent calendar is a makeup bag. It’s not one I can find on their website but as their makeup bags are £12 in general I’m going to stick with that as the value they’ve put in this one, not sure if it would be.
The first day of Christmas from my Twelve Days of Ciate London Calendar is a liquid lipstick. I love the look of this calendar in general and I’ve wanted to try the Ciate makeup after loving their nail varnishes for years so couldn’t resist it when it was on offer. The liquid lipstick is a Liquid Velvet Liquid Lipstick in the colour Oh Honey! The full sized version is £17 normally on their website (currently on sale for £13.60) and is part of the new nudes range. This mini size is 2ml to the 6.7ml of a standard one which means it has around £4 of product in it. These minis are always enough for me in liquid lipsticks anyway and I can see this one lasting well.
Title: Five on Brexit Island
Author: Bruno Vincent
Year written: 2016
Publisher and year: Quercus, 2016
ISBN Number: 978-1-78648-384-3
I think I first heard of this book on a livestreams the Yogscast did in December and wanted to get it since then so, as I was already making a Paperchase order, it ended up in my bag. It’s £7.99 from Paperchase (though I found it for under £4 on Amazon) and a hardback which surprised me as most of the Famous Five books I grew up with are paperback. It’s the latest in the Famous Five for grown ups series, at least I’ve seen it called that even if it’s not the official name, and it’s Five on Brexit Island by Bruno Vincent.
I’m not sure how much of a thing the Famous Five, or Enid Blyton in general, is outside of the UK and if it’s even something that people still read here but I grew up reading them. It’s a very British series of books, I think Enid Blyton books are in general, where four children and their dog Timmy go for adventures. I think they’re fairly tame by today’s standards for adventure stories, they’re set in the fifties I think or maybe the sixties, and they always seem to find a friendly farmer who gives them free food and drink. One of them, a girl called George has an island off the coast of England, the kind with a nice ruin and plenty of secret tunnels and caves for adventure, which is where this story is set.

This is one of those posts I meant to do a while ago but wasn’t sure about it as the games are being done in the style of an advent cakendar so you don’t know what you’ll get in the days to come. Also I know a lot of my followers probably don’t follow me for games but even if you don’t this might be something you could buy as a gift for someone who does (again, I know late for Christmas sorry).
You may or may not have heard if the Yogscast, they’re a group of gamers who make YouTube videos on a range if games though they started out with WoW and became well known because of Minecraft. They’ve grown and for the past four or five years have done livestreams around Christmas for various charities. The past year or two Humble Bundle have joined up with them so as well as giving for a good cause, or causes, you get a bunch of games too. This year there are six main charities: Mental Health, Special Effect, ILGA (International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association), Cancer Research, WDC (Whales and Dolphin Conservation) and Games Aid. However this year there’s also a feature where you can search for your own charities or ones in your area and then move sliders at the bottom to decide which gets how much.
So far this year the running total is $2.4 million (a bit more but it changes as I type so I’m rounding) and sales of various things and subscriptions get added so the actual total will go up after December.
If you want to read more on how to get the games and what games are actually in it keep reading or check out the website at the Humble Bundle Jingle Jam website. You do have to be quick, I think it disappears at the end if the year so hopefully you’re reading this before 2017!
It’s Christmas Eve! It doesn’t actually feel like it to me, Christmas sort of snuck up in me, and I’m still doing last minute wrapping. Today is mainly full of all the fun jobs preparing for Christmas and the dinner tomorrow and I expect I’ll feel more Christmassy later but it doesn’t feel like it now. Think we’ll be watching Santa Claus: The Movie tonight, it’s a bit of a tradition. Do you guys have movies you watch in Christmas Eve or other family traditions?
With it being Christmas Eve that means the last day in most of my advent calendars, the Marks and Spencer one has an extra day for Christmas so there will be one last, shorter, post tomorrow but this is the end of another year of advent and I’ve been very happy with pretty much everything I’ve got. Today I have a few full sized products, the Marks and Spencer advent calendar has a Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm in Peppermint which I is always a good product to get in the colder weather. The Ciate Mini Mani Month today has a full sized bottle, it’s an exclusive glitter called Meet Me at Midnight, and the bottle itself is so pretty too. The Yankee Candle advent calendar has a votive candle this time and it’s in the scent Christmas Eve, very appropriate, and the Lindt chocolate is a smaller version of the chocolate Santas they do and I had to confluence photos of it out of the wrapping because it’s just so detailed.
As I know a lot of you probably won’t be reading tomorrow, if anyone’s still following this advent, I thought I’d just say Merry Christmas! And have a great weekend whether you celebrate Christmas or not!
The Marks and Spencer advent calendar has a high end skin care product, the kind it’s fun to try but would be outside my budget for a daily use product in the Studio 10 Miracle Effect Priming Serum. The Yankee Candle is the very Christmassy scented Bundle Up and the Ciate Mini Mani Month had a mini bottle of Pliés Please Me, the Gelology version of a colour that’s a light blue or grey shimmer colour with a hint of a pink duochrome that gives it a light version of a petrol look nail varnish to me.
Today’s advent calendar presents are really nice, I think I might have my New Year’s Eve nail varnish base now as I have plans for nail art and needed a good navy for a night sky and the Ciate Raincheck is pretty much perfect for this. The Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar had a great nail gift in it too with the Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File. I’ve considered getting these in the past but now I get to try one without having to spend the extra money and this is a great travel size though I’m not sure how suitable a crystal nail file would be for keeping in a bag without any protection. The Yankee Candle today is Winter Glow, I’m torn between loving this and not liking it, it seems to depend on the day and if I get the hint of pine air freshener from it. Today is a loving it day.
Finally finished all the mad dash Christmas shopping and actually have done some early birthday present shopping for the beginning of next year so I’m feeling organised for once. All that’s left is wrapping presents and the fun things you do on Christmas Eve and the day before like putting all the snacks out, and maybe sneaking some, and decorating the fake tree with the things that are slightly too broken or old for the nice tree.
Four sleeps till Christmas and I’m not finished with present buying, this is definitely cutting it fine and the advent calendars are looking empty. I have to say that I am loving the snowballs in the Lindt advent calendar. They’re one of the Lindt products I haven’t tried before this and I love the mix of white and milk chocolate and how it’s all melty. They’ll probably be on my list of chocolates to get in the future at Christmas.
The other advent calendars today gave me a bright pink nail varnish in the Ciate Mini Mani Month and it’s called Cupcake Queen which is probably one of the most appropriate names from the calendar, to me anyway. The Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar has a Pür Correcting Primer for normal skin which will be interesting to try and it’s a great travel size if I like it. The Yankee Candle is another Spiced Orange, one of the scents that has grown on me after the initial disappointment of it not being as orange as I expected the scent to be.
More sparkle in today’s Ciate Mini Mani Month with Antique Broach, it’s such a pretty colour and one I think will work all through the year as it’s surprisingly subtle on a neutral base considering the fact it’s a glitter. The Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar has a Marks and Spencer exclusive, it’s one of their own brands that I haven’t heard of before called Formula Absolute. It’s the Ultimate Sleep Cream, a night cream for all skin types that I’m looking forward to trying when my skin settles down as it’s really dry in Winter. The Yankee Candle today is Snowflake Cookie, which goes well with the fact we did some baking today, more food making tomorrow getting ready for Christmas as it’s getting so close and we still have quite a few things on the to do list in the build up to Christmas.
Today’s advent has a Cosy By the Fire tea light for the second day in a row, I guess they did it randomly but it would have been nice to have a bit of a gap between the same scent. The Ciate today has a really dark berry red, it’s so dark to see the more berry side of it and it looks like a very dark brown. I love the range in this year’s Mini Mani Month, it’s like a mini nail varnish collection in one go, I think it’d be a good gift for any nail varnish fan and down at half price at £25 on their own website if you want to get it. The Marks and Spencer beauty advent calendar has a tube of Rituals The Ritual of Sakura Magic Body Touch Body Cream, it’s the cream version of a shower gel foam we got last year so it seems like it’s a popular scent.
I just realised today that were over half way through the month and were less than two weeks away from the beginning of 2017. How has this year gone by so fast? I think it took months for me to remember not to write 2015 at the beginning of this month so it’ll still be like its 2016 for a while yet for me.
After today my room is now covered in black glitter from the Ciate Mini Mani Month nail topper, it’s called Starry Night and I do love it but see things make so much mess no matter how careful I am. The Marks and Spencer advent calendar is a Ren Evercalm Global Day Cream, which I don’t think I’ve tried again though I have had things from the make before and I know they do tend to do well with my skin. The Yankee candle today is a Cosy By the Fire, one of the more stereotypically Christmas scents from Yankee that I quite like now.
