Getting Ready for Holidays Haul Part 1: Boots

The Summer Haul Part 1: Boots title image. Behind the text box is a photo of everything bought in the haul

It feels like it’s been a while since I last posted, it’s probably not been all that long but I think I needed to step back and life sort of took over. I’ll do more of a post about it soon but blogging was getting stressful, which is not what I ever want it to be, and this break means I’m actually looking forward to posting and have all these ideas. Anyway, onto the post itself.

I recently decided that I wasn’t really going to do many hauls, but as I’m going away to Fuerteventura in April I had so many things I wanted to get ready for that or that were on my list to buy after the no-buy February and my general decluttering that I felt like I wanted to share with you guys what I was getting. This is all from Boots and most of it is actually Soap and Glory but I am so ready for these summer products that I got a bit excited and may have bought almost everything in their new scent that they released in February. It did help that almost everything that I bought was in a mix and match three for two at the time so I got a few of these things free.

No Buy February – Kind of Successful

The No Buy February title image. Behind the text is a photo of everything that was bought in the month

This is a bit late, it was meant to go up last week but apparently my scheduled post didn’t even save. Anyway, after the sales of January I decided to have a no buy February. We’re going on holiday in April, though it was originally going to be in February, and I bought a lot of things at the end of January for this so I wanted to save a bit for some spending money too.

I did set a few rules, the main one being this was for beauty and fashion except for the Red Nose Day t-shirts. I get one every time they release them and they were Disney this year so I had to get one. I did plan on buying a couple of things for my room, some final things for organising my wardrobe space and some plant pots that I’ve been meaning to get for over a year now, but I ended up getting none of them so I thought I’d do a post that has everything I bought in February, or rather everything that isn’t an essential thing that I bought in February, and I think I did pretty well!

Review: Mario Badescu Drying Lotion and Buffering Lotion

The Mario Badescu Drying Lotion and Buffering Lotion review title image. Behind the text box is a phot of each of the lotion bottles.

I have heard so many good things about the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion but it always seemed expensive to just give it a go even if it is some wonder product as I’ve had so many failed acne treatments that I thought it might just join the pile. Then I saw this set in the Beauty Bay sale with two Mario Badescu products, the Drying Lotion and the Buffering Lotion and thought I’d give it a go. Both of these products are cruelty and paraben free.

From the description on these two lotions they’re aimed at targeting different types of acne, or different stages in acne anyway. The Drying Lotion basically does what it says and uses a combination of ingredients, including clay, to sit on the skin overnight and dry out any spots. The Buffering Lotion is supposed to help large under the surface bumps, to calm them and reduce their appearance.

I was intrigued to see how these two would work and if the Drying Lotion was the wonder product everyone seems to say it is as, at nearly thirty, I still haven’t found the perfect products to help my acne prone skin when it’s having a bad time.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts the Crimes of Grindelwald Original Screenplays by JK Rowling

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the Crimes of Grindelwald original screenplays title image. Behind the text is a photo of the two covers

You may be aware that I love Harry Potter, I’ve loved the books for years and so when I saw these gorgeous hardback versions of the original scripts for the Fantastic Beasts movies I had to get them. I should probably say now that I haven’t actually seen the second one yet so reading the script book was basically a whole book of spoilers for the movie for me. I’m going on a plane soon so hoping they have the second one on there, it’ll make the four hours go a bit quicker.

These two books are the original screen play scripts for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald. If you don’t know, these are the two movies based in the Harry Potter universe about Newt Scamander and set about fifty years before the Harry Potter series starts. He wrote the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is one of the books in the Hogwarts reading list. The original Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them book was released for charity in the UK and there have been a few variations since, all of them including this written by JK Rowling.

I have a feeling that most people who buy these will probably be doing it to be part of a collection, like me, but I am going to include a bit of a review of them anyway. Don’t worry, no spoilers for the storyline at all and I’ve made sure that photos of any pages are early enough that they won’t give any storyline away or just don’t have any text on them.

My First Declutter of 2019!

The First Declutter of 2019 title image. Behind the text is a photo of all the products I decluttered spread out on a chair

I’ve been working on decluttering for the past couple of months, I’ve actually been pretty good and my cupboards look so much tidier. I’ve been sorting out my makeup recently and realised how much of the stuff I was keeping is just not me at all, or at least not any more. I’ve actually counted up how many things are in this declutter post and there’s fifty three pieces of makeup or accessories that are going! I didn’t realise I had that much!

I did start this off with a little review of each of them, but when you have fifty three to get through it would be so long, so instead I’m just going to link to any that I’ve already reviewed on here and say why I’m getting rid of them. I have to say there are a few that I never thought I’d declutter but they’re so old that if I did decide to reach for them I don’t think they’d do me any good. I have a new rule; if it smells like wax crayons, get rid of it!

Onto the decluttering….

Review: The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter

The Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Butter title image. Behind the text is a photo of the tin open showing the product, with the lid next to it

I’ve been trying The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter for a while to see if, and how, it worked for me. I saw a lot of posts about this range when it was first released but not seen much since. It’s designed for sensitive skin and is a cleansing balm. I haven’t had the best luck with cleansing balms but I wanted to give this a go as it’s specifically for sensitive skin. As with all products from the Body Shop it’s cruelty free.

This is a fair sized tin, it contains 90ml, and is a lot flatter and wider than most of my skin care products. This costs £10 but the tin lasts ages, a little does go a long way and I can see this lasting beyond the twelve months it says it has for using it up, for me anyway. My skin is sensitive, acne prone and dry or combination and it isn’t normally a fan of cleansing balms but I was interested so thought I’d give it a go.

Review: Pokémon Re-Ment Terrarium Set

Pokémon Re-Ment Terrariums title image. Behind the text is a photo of the six designs of Pokémon in the terrariums

I’ve always loved miniatures and there have been so many times I’ve had a Re-Ment set in a basket and not got it, so when I saw the Pokémon Terrarium Re-Ment Set on Plaza Japan for £29.41 with cheap shipping I had to get it. I love the terrariums I’ve seen on Etsy but they’ve always been a bit more expensive, a lot of them seemed to be more than this for one, and I liked the mix of Pokémon in this set.

They’ve done four collections, number five is available for pre-order, and this one is the second one. It’s got some of my favourite Pokémon in there with Articuno and the Sandshrew and Cubone one is so cute. It comes with six different mini displays inside clear pokeballs. All of them are from the first generation of Pokémon except for Togepi but it’s been in Pokémon so long I always think it was.

My First Empties of 2019, There’s Quite a Few Here!

My First Empties of 2019 title image. Behind the text is a photo of a lot of empty bottles and jars in a rose gold basket

I’ve always meant to do empties posts, I just tend to find that I go for ages without having any and then within a week everything I use regularly is finished. I love reading or watching them when other people do them as it shows what you actually use and like rather than a review of something you’ve been using for a few weeks or days.

As I’ve been organising my wardrobe, I’m only part way at the moment, I’ve ended up getting all the random stuff that got thrown into this basket I got for empties so now it can finally be used as I wanted it to be. I didn’t plan on it being overflowing before I did my first post though! I’ll try to keep them shorter, maybe after every ten empties, I didn’t realise how much was in there until I emptied it earlier! As there are so many I’ll try to keep them short and I’ll link to any I’ve done reviews on so you can see more about them.

Review: Unicorn Cosmetics The Class of ’86 Eye Stationery Brush Set

Unicorn Cosmetics Class of 86 Eye Makeup Brush Set title image. Behind the text is a photo of the brushes and the pencil case that they come in

I always used to think that the unicorn themed brushes were a bit of a gimmick but then I bought the heat sensitive spooky set from Unicorn Cosmetics and I was converted. I’ve had my eye on some of their sets before but as I mainly do eye looks and don’t use that many brushes for other things there would always be ones I didn’t want. Then I found the Class of ’86 Brush Set that has seven eye makeup brushes in it for different things and I had to have it.

I got this in the sale but at full price on their website it costs £24.99, which isn’t a bad price when you think of how many brushes you get. It comes out at under £4 a brush and you get a little pencil case style bag with it which is so pretty and definitely reminds me of Saved by the Bell. I’m so tempted to keep pencils in it and have it out on my desk.

My Daily Skincare Routine

My Daily Skincare Routine title image. Behind the text is a photo of different skincare products

I can’t remember when I last did a skincare routine post. There are probably some things that stayed the same as I’ve got some old favourites that I’ve been using for years,  but I have recently found some new products my skin loves. It’s taken me ages to get a regular routine, I’m nearly thirty and it’s only been the past couple of years I’ve had a proper daily routine.

My skin can definitely be difficult at times. It’s acne prone, combination and sensitive but definitely goes on the dry side over oily when it comes to the combination part. I do like trying new products but I tend to find that it takes a while for my skin to get used to them so I’m trying to stick to a few favourites, though one of the moisturisers in the Holland and Barrett advent calendar has made such a difference it’s in my go to list now.
