Review: She’s in Fashion Leighton Denny Nail Varnish

shes-in-fashion-leighton-denny-nail-varnish-1.jpg

I got the She’s in Fashion nail varnish from Leighton Denny in the recent Marks and Spencer’s summer beauty box. It’s a full sized version and in the standard square bottle with the silver and clear lid that makes it stand out as a Leighton Denny nail varnish to me. Unfortunately this isn’t available in any stores I can find but there are plenty on eBay here in the uk if you’re looking for one so I thought it’s still worth doing a review while it’s still online somewhere.

This is pretty much the perfect summer colour for me; somewhere around a magenta with a cooler base to it and not neon. Or that’s the colour it looks in the bottle, it’s one of those that is a slightly different colour when you actually apply it. It turns into more of a bright magenta pink, which is slightly disappointing to me but still a nice bright summer colour anyway.

#NOTD: Cute Pastel Unicorn Nails

cute-pastel-unicorn-nail-art-1

I had to take this with these shoes, they fit the nail colours too perfectly not to

This nail look isn’t exactly fresh but I had fun doing it so I wanted to share it with you guys, and I kind of love the final effect so will definitely be doing this more with other pigments too. I’ve had some sample sizes of loose eyeshadow pigments hanging around for year without getting any use so I thought I’d see if they worked for nail art, it’s not like I had anything to lose as I was probably going to get rid of them somehow.

I decided to go for a multicoloured pastel mix of colours for most of the nails with some added nail art with white, that was supposed to look like sparkle and stars but kind of failed, and a pearly unicorn on each of the thumbs. I’m happy with how this has turned out and think I’ll be going for the pastel multicoloured nails for a family wedding coming up, just worth knowing that they don’t necessarily last that long so I’ll be doing them a day or two before rather than a while in advance.

Blogmas Day 21: Advent and Christmas Nails

Today’s Blogmas is half advent and half Nails. I meant to do more posts like this throughout December but it’s been more hectic than I expected and it’s only just now I’ve got the energy and time to do more than a quick review! Today’s advent gift from the Marks and Spencer’s beauty calendar is a Rose Otto Face Oil from Balance Me, a company I’ve heard of but never had anything from. The full sized version is 30ml and comes in a glass bottle with a dropper for £32 so this 10ml roll on version is worth around £11. As with any skin care to get a proper idea of how it works you need to use it longer term than one day but I’ll give my first impressions anyway.

The Wax Tart today in the Twelve Scents of Christmas gift set (£15) from Seasonal Scents Shop is the Spiced Orange scent, a standard for Christmas and one of my favourites. I love how waxy tarts can be mix and match to make cocktails of scent but you do need a wax burner for them. They’re available a lot of places for pretty cheap so it’s not hard to find if you feel like trying them.

I do love nail art, I just haven’t really done as much of it this year as I have for various reasons but I felt like going with a snowflake theme as it had snowed earlier in the week when I did them. I also know I like this look as I did it last year but nothing wrong wit going back to a design you love, I do it all the time.

Blogmas Day 19!

I almost bought more advent calendars today. Yes I know it’s half way through, or rather nearly the end of, advent but they had the Mini Mani Month from Ciate in TK Maxx for £17! I resisted as I’m trying to reduce my nail varnish stash if anything but if you’re on the lookout for a quick way to have an instant nail varnish collection then see if you can find one near you. I think this year it’s 23 minis and a full sized nail varnish but they often have toppers like the nail caviar or glitter and you’re almost guaranteed at least one day where it’s accessories like nail files so it’s more like 20 mini nail varnishes and one full sized. I did manage to get a bargain Stila liquid lipstick set though so I’ll try and post a first impressions of that soon in case they sell out. They’re currently selling quite a bit of Stila in the one near me but this set was £7.99 instead of a (supposed) RRP of £40.

Anyway, onto today’s Marks and Spencer’s Beauty Advent calendar gift, and the Mini Mani Month is surprisingly on topic with this gift being another nail varnish. I do like nail varnishes but this Leighton Denny Star Dust is not one I’m that excited to get. It’s a holographic glitter to add to my collection of holographic glitters, I’m sure I have had at least ten of these in various gifts over the years, so it’ll probably be passed on to someone else. I can’t find this exact colour anywhere except eBay but the standard 12 ml bottles like this are £12 in most places so I’m going to guess at that being the value of this bottle.

Blogmas 2017: Day 9!

Today’s been another busy day so another late Blogmas post tonight, though maybe it’s a better time for some of you as it seems to be getting more views on my later posts. The Marks and Spencer’s beauty advent calendar gift for today is another staple of beauty gift sets year round in a bottle of nail varnish, I think this is the first of two in this advent calendar. This is a full sized Nails Inc One Coat Gel Finish nail polish in the colour Molten Star. It’s a warm coppery gold that looks like it has tiny holographic shimmer particles in it but I can’t actually find it for sale in any store online so maybe it’s an exclusive. If you do want it though there are a few people listing them on eBay for £5 to £10. The range in general is £13 for this 10ml bottle and it’s a nice colour for all year round so will be interesting to see how good this one is.

Pink Pomegranate is one of those scents that I’ve never heard of before this Christmas but it seems like maybe it’s a standard Christmas scent. Have any of you guys heard of it? Maybe I’ve just missed it every year. These wax tarts, the ones I’ve tried so far, have a good throw and last pretty well. They’ve been burnt for 6 hours and still smelling pretty strong cold when I took them out of the burner. This is from the Scented Seasons Shop on Etsy. It’s not technically an advent calendar, it’s a set of all twelve Christmas scents they do, but I’m picking them out at random every other day so it kind of is.

Review: Red Carpet Manicure Envelope Please Gel Nail Varnish

RCMEnvelopepleaseheader

In a recent trip to Sally’s I found this Red Carpet Manicure gel nail varnish in Envelope Please. The official description for it is a ‘mauve nude creme’ which actually describes it pretty much perfectly. I wanted a fairly deep neutral pink sort of colour and this one was the closest in this range I could see. Price wise it ranges from £10 -£14 depending where you buy it from, the range of places that stocks them seems to have grown recently and I’ve seen stands in Marks and Spencer as well as Sally’s when it comes to physical stores.

I like the Red Carpet Manicure range in general, though the formulas do tend to range in thickness. I’ve found that, as a brand, the nail varnishes last the two weeks they claim in general and they stick well. I use them with the Red Carpet Manicure light and find them quick and easy to use, I can’t really comment on how well it works with other brands but you can see the colour and how it lasts with their own UV lamp. These are all gel nail varnishes designed to be used with a UV lamp.

Review: Nina Ultra Pro Nail Varnish in Orchid

I haven’t bought anything from the Nina Ultra Pro nail varnish line before, I’d seen them in Sally’s a couple of times but tended to stick to the brands I knew. However, the last time I went this was the only company that had the kind of colour I was looking for so I decided to give them a go and bought Orchid, a sort of darker version if the melenial pink that’s everywhere at the moment.
I can’t find this exact nail varnish on their website, maybe it was a limited edition or it’s just out of stock at the moment, but the rest of their standard nail varnish line is £4.88 a bottle online which is a pretty good price for a nice nail varnish that actually lasts so I thought I’d see if it could do as well as some of my current favourites.

Mini Hauls: Sally’s and Mark’s & Spencer

I seem to have been buying things recently, I do have a bit of a TK Maxx haul coming up that’s been building up for a few months so it’ll be a pretty big one and deserves its own post, I just haven’t been posting my recent purchases. I’ve found that posting then actually helps me to keep my spending down so I’m back to posting them more.

We recently found an out of city shopping centre that has some great shops in it, mainly TK Maxx and Marks & Spencer were the ones we’ve been to as I didn’t need clothes and most of the others would probably end up with me spending even more! Today’s post is the few things I got from M&S as well as their nail varnishes I bought in Sally’s on the same trip.

Review: Nails Inc Porchester Square

porchestersquareheader.jpg

I only got this nail varnish today but as it was in a magazine offer I wanted to do the post asap because I know how quickly these things disappear and I don’t know how long it’s been out. This Porchester Square nail varnish was a free gift in the UK Elle magazine, which also came with a Cosmopolitan and cost £4.50 which is a great price for an almost full sized Nails Inc polish, these are 10ml compared to the 14 ml of a full sized one. I have a feeling that this one won’t be around much longer as it’s the May edition (with Victoria Beckham on the front) so that tends to mean the June one will be out soon going by when magazines are released.

I can’t seem to find this in the same bottle on their website but it is available in the newer design 14ml bottle here for £15. I’m not sure which style bottle I prefer but I’m pretty sure it’s the same formula so it’s not one of those colours made exclusively for a magazine that you can never find again. That annoys me when you find a colour you love with a magazine but it’s not available afterwards. I also seem to find that a lot of Nails Inc polishes you get free with magazine seem consistently better to me than ones I’ve actually bought full price.

Nails: Coffee, Cream and Rose Gold

nailscoffeecreamheader.jpg

I realised that I haven’t done a nail look in ages, in fact I haven’t really done much with my nails in ages apart from paint them one colour so, to make myself feel better, I decided to give it a bit of a go and try some dots and lines. Mainly because I just had no idea what I was going to do when I started out so starting with them as a base is always easy to build on rather than specific shapes.

I think I might need to get better at naming nail looks, I am so bad when it comes to naming anything really but I think this one fits given the names and colours I used. As I’ve also had a bit of a play around with the three Gelologoy formula Ciate polishes I used in this nail art I thought I’d do a mini review of each of them as they do seem to work very differently.
