Review: Obsession Makeup London Concealing Wand in Light

obsession-concealing-wand-light-6.jpg

My under eye concealer has been getting low and I wanted to try something new. After seeing good reviews of some of the Makeup Revolution concealers I got one of them and this Obsession Concealing Wand in Light was on their website too. There’s a fair amount of product in this with 4.5ml and it costs £6 but I can see it lasting a long time as you don’t need much for this to give decent coverage.

It’s a wand with a sponge tip and a twist up end that pushes the product through so no need for any extra brushes. It’s available in various colour correcting and concealer colours and this light concealer is for light neutral skin tones. It’s also both cruelty free and suitable for vegans.

September Hits and Misses from My Makeup Collection

september-makeup-collection-hits-and-misses-1

For the past few months I’ve been going through my collection, picking out a set amount of products and only using those for the month. I guess it’s kind of a way to find out if the products I’ve kept for ages are ones I really like or just don’t like the idea of letting go and keep them ‘just in case’ when that day never comes. So far it has also helped me to declutter because I’m actually using the products so I see how they work rather than just looking at the pretty colours or swatching them once and deciding to keep them.

This month I think everything I tried was old, I didn’t get any new products and everything I’ve had in my to use area has either been sat in my drawer waiting to be used, been loved at one point and forgotten, or something I was pretty sure I’d be keeping but wanted to use anyway.

Review: Ciate London Wonderwand Gel Kohl Eyeliner

ciate-wonderwand-black-kohl-gel-eyeliner-pencil-1

I got this Ciate Wonderwand Gel Kohl Eyeliner (£15 full size) in their Twelve Days of Christmas calendar last year and it’s been sat in my drawer all year so I thought it was time to give it a proper try. This pencil is 0.08g but the full size is 1.1g so there isn’t much difference size wise between them and the overall design is the same with the angled smudger brush on the end.

At one time I remember a lot of eyeliners had a smudger on the other end but this is the first pencil liner I’ve seen that has an angled brush on the end to make it a more precise blending if you want to use it. I wasn’t sure how I’d get on with it but I actually liked this change and found myself using the brush quite a bit.

Review: IDC Color BomBon Eye Eyeshadow Palette

idc-color-chocolate-bar-bombon-eye-eyeshadow-palette-4

I’m not really a fan of companies that do obvious copies of others, it may be odd saying that with what I’m reviewing in this post but I had a moment of weakness and saw this IDC Color Bombon Eyes eyeshadow palette on the TK Maxx site a while ago and wanted to try it. I do love their Natural eyeshadow palette, it’s a dupe for the Naked 3 but I still kind of love it anyway, and seeing the RRP of £42.99 down to £7.99 I just wanted to give this one a go too.

To be honest that RRP is stretching it a bit, I have only seen them on TK Maxx or in the Beauty Outlet stores for the same price. I’ve taken so long to do a review because I couldn’t find it anywhere and I’d rather post about products that are still available but I saw it in the Beauty Outlet store in Bridgend so if you can find one near you, I think they’re mainly in McArthur Glenn outlet shopping centres, then there are a load of palettes by them in there.

August Hits and Misses from my Makeup Collection

august-makeup-hits-and-misses-makeup-collection-1

I can’t believe it’s September already, not sure where August went but it’s time for another of these posts without a proper official name yet. To help me sort through my collection, rather than just doing declutters (though I did do a bit of one this month anyway) I’m putting makeup that I hardly use in my dresser so that I decide whether I actually want to keep it. I’ve got so much stuff that I’ve kept just in case or because I liked it when I got it that I thought this was the easiest way to see if I would actually use it or still like it rather than just thinking I do because I used to.

Basically I can only use these older products when it comes to the product types, so things like my staples aren’t included as otherwise it’d be the same each month. This month I’ve gone through more of my old eyeshadow palettes, these are what makes up more than half of my collection so I’ve got five or six at a time out each month and can only use them. I also got out an old foundation, which was probably beyond when I should have used it anyway, the NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk which I’ve barely used since I first got it, and a colour correction powder from Shiro Cosmetics.

Review: NYX Lid Lingerie Matte Eyeshadow Palette

nyx-lid-lingerie-matte-eyeshadow-palette-5.jpg

I haven’t seen much on the NYX Lid Lingerie eyeshadow palette, though it’d been out for a while, and I love the colours in it so I really wanted to try it. It has six matte neutral colours and the middle top shade really reminds me of my all time favourite Lip Lingerie; Embellishment. I’m not sure if they’re meant to match some of the Lip Lingerie shades but I can see some that would compare to most of them. I’ve been on the look out for a nice neutral matte eyeshadow palette, I’d given up but I was so intrigued by the Embellishment type colour I wanted to try it.

This palette costs £9 for the six eyeshadows with just over 1g on each of them. This means they’re bigger than most of the eyeshadow palettes I own so it makes up for the extra price. I hadn’t tried any NYX eyeshadows before and this seems to be one of those palettes that has quite good reviews so I was interested to see what it was like.

A Bit of a Declutter

mini-declutter-august-4.jpg

Or maybe a better title would be ‘Why I Shouldn’t Keep Things Too Long.’ I’ve had a look through my collection and realised that some I used to love have gone beyond when they should be used, others are simply products I never really got on with but kept ‘just in case’ or free gift with purchases that I already had better versions of but kept anyway.

I’ve been working through my stash and using some of the ones that have fallen through the cracks or ones I haven’t used recently to decide which I’ll keep and which I’ll get rid of. At the end of the month there probably will be more joining these decluttered products but I wanted to do this as a separate post as otherwise that end of the month one will be way too long, plus these are ones I just don’t think I want to even try for the whole month before I get rid of them.

Review: Sleek Makeup Goodnight Sweetheart Eyeshadow Palette

sleek-makeup-goodnight-sweetheart-eyeshadow-palette-2

A while ago Sleek Makeup released the Goodnight Sweetheart i-Divine eyeshadow palette. Then it disappeared for a while before I managed to get it, but it popped back up in the Boots online store so I had to get it. It has twelve eyeshadows in a mix of finishes, with six shimmers, two mattes, three duochrome and one that’s somewhere between a matte, satin and duochrome. As with all i-Divine palettes it costs £8.99, though I’m not sure how long this one will be around so maybe check it out as soon as possible if you think you’re interested.

The colours are inspired by vintage fashion and makeup looks, mainly smoky colours and muted purples. Goodnight Sweetheart was a song in the UK in 1931, which is what I thought of when I saw the name, along with a TV show in the nineties that had some parts in the 1940s and used that as the theme song, so it makes me think of the 30s or 40s looks.

Review: Soap And Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipstick in Nude Edition Satin

soap-and-glory-nude-edition-satin-lipstick-1

In a recent Boots haul post I mentioned the Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Lipstick in Nude Edition Satin in the gift set I bought. This is in their nude collection and costs £9 for the lipstick when it’s bought on its own. This has 3.5g (0.12 Oz.) of lipstick in it with a satin finish, as the name suggests.

I’ve bought a couple of their other lipsticks a while ago in different finishes, both the shine and matte styles, but not the satin so I was interested to see how it would work. I’ve not had the best luck with traditional lipsticks and staying power but I’ve been happy with the Soap and Glory ones in the past and do love a good nude lip so wanted to give this one a proper try.

Makeup I’ve used in July

makeup-palettes-july-sleek-too-faced-makeup-geek-thebalm-3.jpg

I’m not really sure what to call this, everything I come up with either seems too long or doesn’t fit. It’s sort of a mix of favourites, decluttering and a bit of a look into parts of my collection even I don’t look at very often. After my last declutter, I think it was around March, I decided to start getting out makeup at the beginning of each month and putting it in my dresser to see which products I would actually use rather than thinking I will or things I keep that have seen better days.

This month I haven’t really gone much beyond my standard makeup so it’s just eyeshadow palettes but I’m hoping in the future there will be a bigger range. In this heat trying new things and older products isn’t very fair as everything just melts off my face anyway!
