I know I did another recent purchases post earlier this week, I would have saved this one until next week but I’m not sure how long the Soap and Glory tin is going to be available and I think it’s a pretty god offer so wanted to show you guys what’s in it. I did go into a Boots store earlier this week and there was a display for the Soap and Glory Sweet Ten-Tation but someone in front of me got the last one as I walked through the door so if you want to get one in store you might want to be quick or just order it online may be easier as you can still pick them up in store. I got all of these things on the Boots website.
I didn’t realise that Boots had done their version of the Beauty Blender, or kind of anyway, and with the price difference I wanted to try it and the Real Techniques sponge as I’ve been recommended it in the past. Also, getting these things I now have enough Boots points to get the original beauty Blender with them anyway so I can compare them in the future some time. I also didn’t know about the Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker lipsticks, there’s a Nudes Collection, a Pinks Collection and a Reds Collection with eight colours in each with three different finishes. I am definitely going to be getting more in the future but I thought I’d go with two from the Nudes Collection to start with as they’re buy one get one half price at the moment.
A while ago Fortune Cookie Soap did a Doctor Who themed collection, though it sold out so fast I didn’t get to buy any of it. They then did a sort of pre-order one where you ordered what you wanted and they made it. There were quite a few products in this collection and I did have more in my basket originally but the postage was so high it was getting to be £40 for postage alone, I ended up getting it down to four products from the range and one from the permanent line.
Other than the permanent product, the tea tree solid shampoo, the rest of these aren’t available at the moment but as there is an off chance they may bring it back at some point, they seem to do this with the most popular products appearing for a limited time a while after they were first released, I thought I’d do a mini review sort of thing for each one. I also find that most of their product types are fairly consistent so if you’re curious about their shower jellies then the way this one behaves is likely to be similar to others in the same product type. Unfortunately I have found it difficult to find anything with an actual scent description for these so I’m just going by what I smell, I’m not sure how accurate it will be to what it’s supposed to smell of but I’ll give it my best shot.
Recently mum wanted to try the lip serum from Fresh and I kind of got talked into buying the Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment as I’d seen reviews of it but it seemed a bit expensive. It’s one of those things that I’d put in and out of my basket on the Sephora website, though I still haven’t bought anything from there, but didn’t realise that they sold it in the UK. It’s available in a range of colours, I was surprised at how many there are, though they are all lip tints so it’s not very opaque.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment, I’m not sure how long it’s been since I started to see these reviews pop up but it seems like pretty much everyone who tried it liked it at one point. My lips are pretty chapped a lot of the time, they seem to eat lip balms, and although this is more than I spend on lip products I thought if it works then it’s worth it especially with that added SPF 15 for the summer. I chose the Fig colour as it’s a sort of muted purple, to me it’s a plum colour, though I wasn’t expecting it to be as glittery as it is. It costs £19 on their website and you can choose a number of samples, we got three but this might be because of the amount we spent I’m not sure.
I’m pretty good when it comes to not buying too much makeup or body products, I might have quite a lot of loose pigments from Shiro Cosmetics and eyeshadows palettes but I’m going through my makeup collection every so often to make sure it doesn’t build up. I always make sure that all of my makeup will fit inside one drawer and all of my perfume and nail varnishes fit inside another. I know I have more than I need but I like collecting the makeup and I don’t go over the top with most things.
This week as I haven’t been feeling good I decided to get the couple of tray things I keep my makeup in and sort through them, does anyone else find that clearing things out and sorting through things makes you feel more refreshed? Other than a few things, which I will say as I go along, I am not actually throwing these things out, they’re going to be offered to people and some of them possibly put on eBay in a while when I’ve got some more things from my room when I sort it better.
I have recently ended up watching a lot of decluttering videos on YouTube as well so I think that inspired me a bit. Like with a lot of those YouTubers I watch most of these things I am getting rid of because I have dupes that I prefer or that I have simply not used them in so long or I like them but they aren’t me. I’ll stop giving an explanation and get on with it.
Quite a few of my favourites this month are things I’ve used before but have started to use more again because of the change in my skin. I was taken off my medication and changed to a topical solution so it’s taking a while to settle down, if it does, and there’s a few products that give more coverage then I’ve used in the past. I am on the lookout for a good moisturiser with SPF my skin gets on with so of anyone has any suggestions, preferably SPF 20 or higher I’m going to be trying some in the near future.
I’ll put the few TV shows I’ve been loving as well, I seem to do this every month. I have seen the new X Files and I know its not far in but I do really like it, will be interesting to see where it goes. I watched quite a few if the old ones over the past ten years when they were on in the middle if the day and I didn’t have anything to do and I really liked then, I’m going to watch some of them again from the beginning I think. NCIS is always a favourite for me and I watch it with my parents, this season is still good though there have been some weaker episodes. It’s always a bit odd watching these so much later than in the USA, the Halloween episode was only a couple of weeks ago. We started watching this late as we recorded it on Sky+ which is why it’s in February rather than earlier. Also loved Vera and Midsomer Murders, a couple of good UK detective shows though Midsomer Murders must be running out of people to kill in those small villages!
I did reviews of the two Sleek palettes they’ve recently released, All Night Long and A New Day, last week and at the same time I bought four of the six new lip products they released at the same time. These are the Lip VIPS, I’ve been calling them the VIP lips in previous posts but I think you could tell what I meant anyway.
The Lip VIP Lipsticks are sold as Semi-Matte Lipsticks and are available in a range of six colours, they have a small range of colour including a nude, two pink based colours, a coral based colour, a bright orange and a bright red. These cost £5.49 from Boots and Superdrug and are £5.50 on their own website but in the UK they’re also available in stores, though it may take some time for them to be available everywhere. I don’t normally buy lipsticks online, then again I don’t often buy lipsticks as I back out in stores and then wish I’d bought them later and I may have got a bit carried away with the new releases and wanted to see how these were. When I bought these they were in a two for £8 offer, though this seems to have finished at the moment.
The four colours that I chose were the more everyday colours, at least on the website. I will say that one thing about these that was slightly disappointing was the difference between the colours on the website and the actual product. Online two of the colours I bought, Backstage and Reserved, looked like fairly standard pinks, more muted than in real life. The Nude, Private Booth is pretty accurate and Guest List is fairly close, just a more orange tint than expected. I am glad that I didn’t buy the brightest, Flaunt it which is orange looking and Night Spot that looks like a classic red. I have tried all of the four I have to see how well they last so hopefully this review will be helpful if you’re interested in these.
I haven’t been posting much this week, I seem to be catching every bug that’s going round and have spent the past few days I’m bed sleeping most of the time.
I was hoping to have the review of the Sleek VIP lip lipsticks I bought, I have done the swatches and trying them out but migraines and computers don’t mix, hence this post being on my phone so I hope there aren’t many typos! As I didn’t get the post up I thought I’d do a mini post with a picture of the ones I have. So from left to right it’s Reserved (1001), Private Booth (1002), Backstage (1003) and Guest List (1006).
Today is another great day in the Marks and Spencer advent calendar with a full sized Stila Lip Glaze in Sugar Plum. I can’t find this exact shade on the Marks and Spencer website so I think it may be a limited edition Christmas colour though I don’t think it’s an exclusive in the calendar. I’ve never tried a Stila Lip Glaze before but I’ve heard a lot about them, unfortunately after trying it it seems to have gone missing so I’m going to have to see if someone else picked it up, I’ve still used it a couple of times so I have a good idea of what it’ll be like. The Yankee Candle tea light today is a Snowflake Cookie one which is one for you if you like your sweet bakery scents. This is the last of the tea lights, tomorrow is a larger votive in a new scent so I’m excited to see what that one is like.
The M&S present today is another makeup thing, I’m surprised at how few makeup products there have been so far in this calendar really. It’s the Autograph Ultra Shine Twist-Up Lip Colour in the shade Nude which is a nice neutral. I think this is one of the only M&S brand product there have been, I think there may have been the shampoo which had a Marks and Spencer address on the back but as far as I can remember that’s it, the rest have been brands you can buy elsewhere too. I have heard a lot about M&S makeup so interested to see how it works. The Yankee Candle tea light is another Angel’s Wings which is a great scent for me as it’s one that isn’t specifically Christmas so I’m keeping these and burning others before them so I can have these the rest of the year.
I don’t know if anyone else gets this but when I first saw this Barry M Lip Paint in Genie on the Marks and Spencer website I thought of the mood rings and lipsticks you used to get I think it was late nineties early 2000s and I really wanted to see how it works. It costs £4.50 on the M&S site where I got it but it’s available pretty much anywhere that sells Barry M.
They claim that it reacts with the alkali naturally on your lips so everyone gets a unique shade, I’m not sure how true that is but it even goes a different colour on my lips to on the back of my hand and mum tried it and it was less bubblegum pink on her.
