My Recent Favourites from 2020 So Far

The title image for the blog post. Behind the text box is a photo of a range of products spread on a white wood floor background. There's makeup, skincare, books and accessories.

I hope you guys are all doing ok and keeping safe at the moment. I planned on posting this last week but I ended up catching another bug going round, such bad timing! But this week I’ve been much better so thought I’d share some of my recent favourites. I’ll try to keep it short but there’s a bit of everything in here.

A photo of makeup on a white wood background. There's a pencil eyeliner and liquid eyeliner in black from SLeek makeup, along with a matte liquid lipstick in a dusty pink. In the top right is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina eyeshadow palette

I only noticed how much Sleek I’ve been using recently when I took these photos. I love their Eau La La eyeliner pencil in black, though I’m not sure they do it any more their new ones are so soft and pigmented too. Their Dip It Liquid Eyeliner is also amazing, lasts well and especially great for the price. I have been loving wearing dusty rose colours on my lips recently, and their Matte Me liquid lipstick in the shade Shabby Chic is so pretty and easy to wear. It’s slightly darker than some of my others but still has that dusty pink colour, it’s been living in my handbag the past few months.

I had to include an eyeshadow palette and I have been using my Norvina palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills so much, I love the pinks in it and the rose gold colour. I will definitely be using this a lot going into spring too.

There are skincare products laid on a white wood background. Left to right are Pixi Glow Tonic Cleansing Gel, No7 Excellent Results Purifying Clay Cleanser, Formula Absolute Total Lip and Eye, a wrapped Lush massage bar and a pot of No7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream

Skincare is something I’m trying to spend more time on, I started in December really focussing on a routine and I’ve been loving the Pixi Glow Tonic Cleansing Gel, it’s like their toner but a bit milder and my skin loves it. I’ve also been using the No7 Excellent Results Purifying Clay Cleanser, it’s a bit more moisturising and great to use every few days to keep my skin glowing but not overly oily. I also love their Protect and Perfect Day Cream with SPF 15 in it. It’s not too heavy but still moisturising enough for the dry patches on my skin.

I got the Marks and Spencer’s Formula Absolute Total Lip and Eye in their advent calendar and hadn’t really tried it until February but I love that it does two in one and it seems to work really well at both. Also a little goes a very long way.

Not sure that it really goes in the skincare section but there’s nowhere else to put it so I’m going to include my Lush massage bars in here. I’ve been liking how they melt pretty easily and are so moisturising, and great for massages without the mess of a bottle of oil, I always find those hard to use when you have oily hands. I’ve used a few of them but this is the Hottie one that smells so good. I also love the Each Peach one, it’s so fresh and lemony despite the peach in the name, and their Valentine’s special Naked Massage Bar was great too.

At the top of the photo are three scrunchies, one cream, one a burnt orange and the final a kahki green. YUnderneath is a gold necklace of the Discworld from the Terry Pratchett novels and a box with a pair of chinchilla earrings in a cartoon style.

Off beauty stuff and onto accessories. I got the Discworld necklace from the Discworld Emporium for Christmas and I love the detail in it, it’s cast with a mould that has the detail on both sides, so the back has the backs of the elephants and turtle, it isn’t just flat. I don’t have much gold jewellery but definitely think I’ll add more as I love gold jewellery. More jewellery I got for Christmas is a pair of earrings from my sister. They’re cute little chinchillas from Doodleworm Graphics and Jewellery and I love the detail on them. They’ve also stayed looking nice even though I’ve worn them a bit, something I’m always a bit nervous about when trying earrings from a new place as so many go weird on me!

The final accessories are some scrunchies from good old Primark again. I haven’t worn scrunchies since I was little but with growing my hair out I wanted to get some so I have something a bit gentler on my hair and something a bit different to tie it up with. I love the rusty colour and the cream in this set, they’re very light weight and I’m going to be going back and getting other scrunchies when we can go shopping again!

On the left is a mustard sleeveless top with thick straps. On the right is a dusty pink t-shirt with a pocket on the chest and rolled up sleeves.

I’ve been loving classic plain tops with jeans and a shirt, it’s been my go to look in the transition months between a full winter wardrobe and spring, when you’re not sure what to wear layers are always great. I have two of these loose longline t-shirts from Primark, one in mustard and one a dusty rose. They’re £8 and feel so comfy and work well on top of leggings too for being comfy round the house, very useful these days! I got two sleeveless tops from Morrisons, I didn’t know they did clothes until recently, and these are great, so comfy and easy to wear. I’ll be getting a black one next time I go in if they have them, again I got a mustard colour but got a white one too. These were £4 each.

There are three books. From left to right: Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death, Fruits Basket Another (the first books) and The Thirlling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage

If you read my book haul post then two of these books won’t be a surprise. I’ve been reading the Fruits Basket Another series by Natsuki Takaya and loving it so far. It’s a short series and very cute with a twist.

I’m also reading The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage by Sydney Padua. It’s the perfect mix of facts and imagination with text and drawings in there. It’s about the inventor of the first computer and a mathematician and what could have happened if they’d built the computer and programs they invented, along with some extra stories that give them a more adventurous ending than they had.

The final book I’ve been loving is an Agatha Raisin one, I’m starting from the beginning with Agatha Raisin and The Quiche of Death by M.C. Beaton. They made a TV show of it which I enjoyed and I do like a good detective novel. These are light hearted and use the standard Agatha Christie style plots and clichés from detective novels in the past.

My TV watching has been very varied these past few months. Or I say TV shows but none of them have actually been watched on TV. Seeing the books I’ve included it’s probably no surprise that Fruits Basket anime is in there, I started watching the new one when it first came out but then didn’t keep up so I’ve been catching up on it and really like this new one. I do still love the original but this is fun to watch too.

One that a lot of people in America, and maybe around the world I’m not sure, will have seen is Golden Girls. I don’t know about other countries but it’s not on in the UK much and I’ve never seen it. I’ve always liked Betty White and found this online so thought I’d watch it. I’m three series in and loving it so far. Definitely going to keep watching this one and tempted to find a DVD so I can rewatch it easier.

The final show is on Netflix and it’s called Kingdom. It’s a Korean series based a long time ago, back when it was swords they had to fight with, and there are zombies. It’s definitely a gory show and there’s a few twists to it that make it different from other zombie shows and movies. The second season came out the other week and I’ve so far seen the first episode of it. I also like the fact that their English dub has actors who sound Korean.

I hope that wasn’t too long! What have you guys been loving recently? Any recommendations? Especially when it comes to TV shows and things on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I have a feeling there will be a lot of watching shows over the next few weeks with the social isolation going on!
