Nails: Coffee, Cream and Rose Gold

nailscoffeecreamheader.jpg

I realised that I haven’t done a nail look in ages, in fact I haven’t really done much with my nails in ages apart from paint them one colour so, to make myself feel better, I decided to give it a bit of a go and try some dots and lines. Mainly because I just had no idea what I was going to do when I started out so starting with them as a base is always easy to build on rather than specific shapes.

I think I might need to get better at naming nail looks, I am so bad when it comes to naming anything really but I think this one fits given the names and colours I used. As I’ve also had a bit of a play around with the three Gelologoy formula Ciate polishes I used in this nail art I thought I’d do a mini review of each of them as they do seem to work very differently.

Decluttering Eye Products

eyeproductsheader

I have to admit I wasn’t entirely sure what to call this decluttering post as it sort of covers a lot of different eye products, basically anything that isn’t eyeshadow or eyeliner. I included my two concealer palettes in here because I only really used them as under eye concealers, though they could probably have gone in a face products post as well. As with my previous decluttering posts I’ll link to any posts I’ve done to review these products and link to any of the ones I really liked.

When I was going through my makeup products I realised I have so many unopened, unused mascaras in there so I could probably have actually got rid of a few more, I just do like to at least try one kind of mascara before I get rid of it. It feels like every one of those spend X amount or buy this many products sets seems to come with a mascara so I hardly ever actually buy any myself.

Paperchase Haul

paperchasehaulheader

When I made this order I started out planning to get three or four things but my basket kind of grew. It turned into a bit of a mix of everything really, though since taking photos I have a feeling that quite a few bits may be used in future photos, even though only one or two things were bought for this. I never thought I’d be buying things to use as props but I want to work on my photography for my blog so have been browsing more home decor sections and it’s very hard not to buy a load of things I don’t need to decorate my room.

This haul is from Paperchase, I think most of this is available in a lot of their stores, even the smaller one near me has quite a bit of this, but it is all still available online. I do love their stationery and always go to them when it comes to Christmas decorations but I haven’t really looked at them for décor and I could have bought a lot more.

Review: Real Techniques Eyes Starter Set

RTeyestartersetheader

Real Techniques have recently revamped their range, at least a lot of the sets, so there are a lot available at TK Maxx for a discounted price. This set is the Eyes Starter Set and cost £14.99 so you save £6, over 25%, and it has five brushes in a case that doubles as a stand. If that link doesn’t work then search as it has it listed three times separately. I have to admit that when I first saw these sets when they were first released I was a bit unsure about how useful the stand would actually be but I can see it working now I’ve actually tried it.

The brushes included in the set are all for eye products and it includes a mix of eyeshadow, liner and brow brushes so you really do have everything covered. The five brushes are: Base Shadow Brush, Deluxe Crease Brush, Accent Brush, Fine Liner Brush and Brow Brush. They’re all in the standard style of the Real Techniques brushes, the matte ferrule takes up a lot of the brush and they colour coordinate the eye brushes with purple so they stand out.

Keep Asking Questions

This is probably another of those posts where I’ve already kind of posted about in the past as part of another topic but I feel like it deserves its own post and it’s something that’s kind of relevant in my life at the moment.

Sometimes it’s easy to fall into the trap of blaming every symptom you have on ME, I know in the past I have been guilty of this and when doctors tell you it’s all a part of your chronic illness this doesn’t help. I know I’ve been very lucky with doctors in general as every one I have seen at the surgery I go to believes in ME and has ideas on the treatments available. One of them said ‘Just because you have ME doesn’t mean you can’t have appendicitis’ which is maybe a bit if an odd statement but I totally agree and think it’s a great way of thinking about it and does stop you from just sticking every new symptom into that diagnosis of ME.

If you have a new symptom or something that doesn’t fit with the ME that you have, let’s face it we all seem to be different and things that are everyday symptoms of ME for one person aren’t for another so it’s no wonder doctors get a bit confused over it sometimes, then be sure to mention it to a doctor, maybe push for tests. Even if they’re the same tests you had done five years ago or even six months ago if it’s a new symptom that’s appeared then it could be something that’s developed. I’ve had certain symptoms for years, they even landed me in hospital overnight eighteen months ago, and have had so many ultrasounds and scans done that came back as nothing but I had the same tests repeated and something showed up. I’m not going into too much detail as there’s blood tests and I have no idea what it is yet but it shows that, although every one of these symptoms could fit into my diagnosis of ME and IBS this is something new, at least it’s newly discovered (though saying that feels like it’s a new species or something in a nature programme) andtheres a way of treating it that will hopefully mean I don’t have all of these symptoms.

Since having ME I have ended up being diagnosed with other things that effect my health, even things as simple as good intolerances, that could have just been dismissed as part of ME so it’s important to push and ask questions if something feels wrong for you. I’m not saying self diagnose with the internet, that can be dangerous, but do ask your GP about things. Here may be something that you didn’t mention that leads them to something new.

For me know if the most frustrating things about ME is the fact that there is no treatment, or rather not cure, so it’s all a case of trial and error. So if there’s a blood test that can either rule in or out something that could be causing my symptoms then I’ll get it done. Even if, at one time, I was going in for blood tests every month or every couple of weeks. If there’s a possibility some of my symptoms are part of something else that can be treated then that means my body has less to deal with and my ME improves as a knock on effect.

I know it can be hard, I know at times I’ve felt like I’m just wasting my GPs time if I keep going back for the same thing, but it can be worth it. If all the tests come back negative then maybe it is a fun new symptom of ME, they seem to pop up from time to time for me, but at least it ruled out the other options.

Also, try to find a doctor who is prepared to keep pushing. As I said before, I’ve been lucky that all the GPs understand that ME is a physical illness as well as having a mental effect but some have fallen into that ‘it’s probably ME’ trap. If you can then get a second opinion and if you find a doctor who is willing to push for more tests then stick with them. Unluckily for me I seemed to go through a patch where my GP left a few months after i started seeing them so I saw quite a few at one time. I know it’s not always possible but getting into a waiting list for an ME clinic, if there’s one in your area, is something I would definitely recommend. You may have had ME for years and be able to pace yourself and control it, if that’s the right phrase, but ME specialists will have ideas on new trials and ideas that have come out or what symptoms could be, it was only when one near me mentioned POTS and postprandial hypoglycaemia that I knew what they were and that they can be common for people with ME but they were causing some of my problems with energy and since changing things and treating those aspects my ME in general has improved a bit.

Sorry guys, this post got a bit longer than I meant it to and it might be a bit of a wall of text but I hope it helps someone. Even if it’s just hearing someone else say, or read it, I find it reminds me to do things that I sort of forget so maybe this post might do that. I don’t know.

Anyway, I hope you’re all as well as possible and had a good Easter weekend!

Review: No7 Liquid Eyeliner

No7liquidlinerheader

If you read my decluttering post you already know the fate of this eyeliner but I wanted to give it a proper review with some photos. It’s the No7 Stay Perfect Liquid Eyeliner and, although it doesn’t have an official name on the product, I’m guessing it’s called black. I got this product free in one of those bags they do when you buy a certain amount of products and, as I’m not great at eyeliner even without the addition of a liquid and brush, it was nice to get something free to practice my eyeliner technique with.

This can be found in Boots, I think this is a full sized product but I’m not sure. It costs £8.50 so it’s not the cheapest eyeliner out there but it’s in the normal range for a No7 product. It’s available in a range of colours including green, navy, brown and silver.

Review: Dr Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum

arganhairserumheader.jpg

I’ve had this hair serum for a while and it’s become one of my everyday hair products. I originally got it in the boxing day one penny sale on the Holland and Barrett website which is essentially buy one get one free but you buy one product in the offer and get another for 1p. This came as part of a set with a shampoo and conditioner and was the 1p item I chose, though I did get the set mainly for this one product. This hair serum is available as a product on its own and costs £14.99 for the 100ml bottle, the same size as this one, so I’d recommend getting it by itself unless you can get the set in a similar sale to the one I did.

Dr Organic is a cruelty free company that makes skin care and hair care products and is sold exclusively at Holland and Barrett, in the UK anyway. This Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum is supposed to reduce frizz, soften, restore and nourish hair and is used after washing your hair and towel drying it so it protects your hair as it dries. It can also be used on dry hair, just not as much, to protect your hair and reduce frizz, though I haven’t tried it yet.

Decluttering Part Two: Lip Products

lipdeclutterheader.jpg

Over the years I’ve tried so many different lip products, I want to like lipsticks and colours but it seemed to take a lot of failures to find the best makes for me. Most of these lip products are from those failures, though again I seem to have a lot from free sets or sets I bought for other products in them. I do love reading declutter posts, there’s something about getting rid of a lot of products that you’re not using that just feels so satisfying and reading and watching others declutter always helps me, though I’m not always the most ruthless.

I did do a bit of a declutter of my eyeliners and you can find the post for that here. As with that post if I’ve done a review or first impressions of any of these lip product I’ll put a link to them. I don’t think I have for many as a lot of these I had before I started my blog two and a half years ago, which shows how old they are and some of them should probably be going on age alone.

Haul: Lush Fresh Face Masks and a Body Mask

freshfacemaskhaulheader.jpg

I have been hoarding Lush black pots for the past eight years, I don’t go into Peterborough very often which is where my local Lush is and do tend to forget them even when I do. Lush have a scheme where, if you take back five of their black or clear pots, and they recently added lip tint tubes to this, you can get a free fresh face mask. Their Hair Doctor product is also included in it, at least I’ve been told it is but I’ve never tried. The face masks are the fresh face masks, the ones kept in I’ve that you have to store in a fridge in the 75g pots. When you buy them they cost £7.25 but you do get a lot of uses out if the one pot.

As my mum and sister went in on Friday I asked them to swap some of the pots I had and they chose two of these as they were recommended them. The ones they were recommended were BB Seaweed and Catastrophe Cosmetic and the two new ones I wanted to try were Rosy Cheeks and Cup O’ Coffee. Unfortunately Cup O’ Coffee is not in this black pot offer though it’s available in different sizes, the largest one is probably the best to get if you plan on using it as a body scrub.

I’ve had quite a few of these over the years, I have tried all of the range before they did recent releases so as two of these face masks are older ones, I’m going to put a review of those two in here. I could do a post on all of them if anyone wants or if you want to know about one of the older ones then I’ll try to answer them.

Decluttering Part One: Eyeliners

decluttereyelinersheader

I said I was going to declutter and I finally managed to collect everything together and go through it all, some had mysteriously moved to my computer drawer at some point, so I’m going to start on my decluttering posts. I will be posting links to any reviews I’ve already done so you can see better swatches and things and there are some things that I do still like but it was just their time to go.

Today the whole post is eyeliners, some of these posts will probably have a few categories in as I don’t have much of some things, and it has both pencils and liquid, though I only have the one liquid liner I’m getting rid of. I don’t wear eyeliner much apart from bonzes and golds but I seem to keep thinking that I will and so buy them anyway. I am quite happy to say that the majority of these eyeliners were in free gifts like those spend X and get this bag of makeup free type offers so I don’t feel too bad getting rid of them.
