July Favourites: More beauty stuff and a game

This may seem another odd combination, though most of them are beauty products this time so it’s slightly less of an odd combination than some in the past. I have posted about a few of them before but I not in my favourites and I’m a bit late on finding a few of them as I know they’ve been favourites for others for a while. The Soap and Glory perfume is one I bought a couple of years ago and loved then but sort of stopped using and rediscovered, I love it when that happens.

ME, Myself and I: Healthy(er) Living

This is a bit of a weird title, having healthy in a post about ME, and I know I spelled healthier wrong but just calling it healthier living also seemed a bit off and like it might be one of those ‘ten tips to a healthy life’ type posts which is isn’t. Mainly because it’s very hard to follow any of those when you have ME and also my life isn’t that healthy at the moment so it’d feel a bit hypocritical.

My new year’s resolution most years is to improve my lifestyle and I think I’ve done ok with it most years but it always slides in the second half, I’m determined this year it won’t and that this time next year I’ll have built up my stamina and energy levels to be able to go out maybe twice a week rather than the once I’m at now.

Besides the everyday thing of actually pacing and working out my limits I think that keeping my lifestyle relatively healthy has been the hardest thing for me since becoming ill. It’s not all about weight loss, I’d rather have a healthier lifestyle even without losing anything than force myself to do too much and make my health worse, but I think weight loss or gain can be a problem for a lot of us with any chronic illness that limits mobility or causes nausea. This post is definitely not about how to lose weight, it’s more me trying to improve the healthiness of my lifestyle so I can do more despite ME. I feel like if I can manage to improve my lifestyle, hopefully increase my stamina and possibly energy, then I’ll maybe get a bit more control back.

Enchanted Wonderland Preview Box

I’ve done a few posts about Enchanted preview boxes this year and Saturday the latest box for the collection being released on August 1st arrived so I had to do a post on it. Enchanted are a bath and body product company and the preview box is like the Fortune Cookie Soap box in that it’s released before a collection and one for each season so four in a year. These boxes contain sample sizes of the products, there’s a good range of both scents and product types in these normally and includes things like lotions, scrubs and wax melts as well as some perfume oil normally. Buying them all at the beginning of the year there was a discount but now you can only buy the last one for £22. It’s available until October 1st and is the Christmas collection.

This season’s collection is all Alice in Wonderland themed which I love and couldn’t wait to see the scents and names that would be in it. It seems to be a popular theme with a lot of companies choosing it but I don’t mind as I love the books so any variation on Alice themed things is good for me.

First Impressions: La Roche Posay Iso Urea Body Milk

As long as I can remember I’ve always had these weird bumps on my legs, they look a bit like I’ve got permanent goose bumps, which always annoyed me a bit. It’s less the way they look, which has got comments asking if I’m cold, and more the fact that with things like shaving I always used to catch them no matter what I tried and I’d have these red dots all over my legs from it. It’s only been the past few years that I found out that it’s actually from an excess in keratin that your body produces to fight infections and this blocks hair follicles and creates these hard bumps and it’s called Keratosis Pilaris if you want to look it up.

There are a few different things recommended, I think salicylic acid like you get in a lot of acne treatments is supposed to help so people recommended some face washes and lotions, some people find that being in the sun seems to reduce them, and then I found a recommendation for the La Roche Posay Iso Urea cream. I was using a Soap and Glory product that they don’t do any more that was made for cellulite which worked but as that was discontinued and none of the replacements seemed to work so well I thought I’d give it a go. At £20 in Boots it was more than I would normally pay for a skin cream but as it’s a 400ml bottle and seems to get good reviews for I thought I’d give it a go.

ME, Myself and I: Hopefully Starting a Business, Turning a Hobby into a Job

For years now I have found that making jewellery has been a great way to relax and I’ve given it as gifts to some people and done some homemade secret Santa type things in the past which is always fun. I’ve found that the hobby helped me to relax and almost escape from whatever I was feeling at the time, it’s like I could just focus on that if I wasn’t feeling great about where I was ability wise, though it did have to be on a fairly good day as shaky or weak hands do not mix well with pliers when you’re trying to twist the end of a metal pin to make a necklace or something.

I think jewellery making is a fairly common hobby if you have ME, or it might just be the people I’ve known. It’s just a very easy thing to do and you can spend ten minutes on something small or spend longer on something and most projects can be put down and picked up as and when you feel you’re able to. Also there’s such a range of different ways of doing it, more traditional metal jewellery or things made with string or even the loom band kits (which I have never tried but they look fun).

Review: OPI When Froggy Met Piggy

In my recent purchases I said I bought this When Froggy Met Piggy set of two OPI nail varnishes in TK Maxx. I’ve recently been loving my rose gold jewellery and the glitter in this has a very rose gold look which caught my eye. I did buy the mini five set that they released when the Muppets Most Wanted collection was released though it didn’t have Gaining Mole-mentum in. I am a big fan of the Muppets so this was one of the OPI collections that I really wanted to like though there weren’t really any in that set that impressed me but glitters tend to be a safe bet as opacity isn’t a problem as it’s just bits of glitter in a clear base.

The two nail varnishes in this set are called Kermit Me to Speak and Gaining Mole-mentum. I do love the names of the OPI varnishes, I like how they’re normally puns and still within the theme though they don’t always have anything to do with the colour of varnish. This set was £9.99 in TK Maxx, though I can’t find it on their website there are quite a few other duos when you search OPI. There was at least one other Muppets one in the store and a few of the other pairs, mainly the ones with the tints or gems in them and a few of the pale shades pairs too.

Recent Purchases: TK Maxx and Yours

Today was one of those days where I went into town shopping just to wander round as something to do after having an appointment and not planning on buying anything, maybe a new top coat as mine has got to the point where I have to hold the bottle upside down and wait for it to drip onto the brush or some flat slip on shoes as I always try to find ones that fit my feet if I go anywhere with shops in the summer. I did get the top coat but ended up with others I really didn’t plan on getting.

ME, Myself and I: Just Because I Don’t Talk Much it Doesn’t Make Me Antisocial

This isn’t really a topic that’s just ME related, it could be one for life in general I guess but I have found that I am asked more why I’m not joining in or have people try to get me to join in with conversations more since becoming ill. This may be because I got ill at 15 and so I would have had people try to include me more as I got older anyway because it’s easier to sit quietly in a big group of people like a lot of school years parties are rather than when you’re in a group of less than ten people and everyone is talking to everyone.

I think I would probably be a fairly introverted person anyway even without ME, I am the kind of person who can enjoy a get together while sitting in the corner either talking to one or two people or just listening to and watching other people having fun. I’ve never been the kind of person who wants to be the centre of attention, I’ve always had teachers comment that I’m ‘confident but should participate more in lessons’ which probably does sum up how a lot of people see me.

Review: Superdrug Coconut Oil

I bought this coconut oil a couple of months ago now I think but I wanted to give the three ways it recommends you try it a go and review it on all three. I’m always a bit wary of those miracle products that seem to appear every so often, the kind that does everything you want and works every time if you believe the adverts and it seems all the beauty YouTubers rave about it. That’s probably why I’ve taken so long to buy any coconut oil. I eventually got some as I was doing a Superdrug order and it wasn’t a bad price, £2.29 for the 125ml tub seems good to me.

If you want to try this Superdrug version of coconut oil then you can find it here. It’s the same product, I think it has the same ingredients but new packaging, at least it’s the same lot of reviews. You know you’ve taken a while to review a product when they change the packaging. I think I prefer the new look of it, though it doesn’t make any difference to the product inside it’s just a less clinical or ‘value product line’ looking label to me.

Shelfie Book Tag

I saw this tag on YouTube a while ago, A Thousand Lives of Daisy did it (and I think invented it) and I thought it’d be a great tag to do on my blog, I just totally forgot until I saw it on Sarah Churchill’s channel so I thought I’d do it for today. I know I haven’t done anything on books before but I do love reading and recently my concentration has improved so I can now read books without being stuck rereading the same few pages multiple times to remember what’s happening.

I do love doing tags and this was something a bit different. I did end up spending more time flicking through the books and looking at the books I have than actually coming up with the answers. It was a bit like those times when you say you’re going to start a photo album ad you spend hours looking at the photos and reminiscing, it’s very easy to get distracted when there are so many memories linked with everything.
